Global chocolate shortages coming, what will need to be done about alternatives and economic effects? The situation of global chocolate always causes wide attention since 2007. As could be seen in figure 1 and 2, it seems that the situation of chocolate shortages is a recent problem. The peak of this trend showed in November 2014. According to Walters (2015, p.4), chocolate shortage is happened all over the world. It is believed that this situation might get worse by chocolate makers. It was predicted
nearly five years. On the other hand, though, the creation of chocolate does not take nearly as long as vanilla. The article “The Sweet History of Chocolate” written by Christopher Klein stated that in 1828, a Dutch chemist by the name of Coenraad Johannes van Houten had constructed and invented the Cocoa Press which had the ability of creating chocolate efficient and definitely not a lengthy process like the creation of vanilla. To make the creamy ingredient, “the cocoa press could squeeze the fatty
cocoa beans, leaving behind dry clumps which could then be pulverized into a fine powder. The fine powder could be mixed with liquids and other ingredients and poured into molds, then solidified into the chocolate we have today. This invention by van Houten brought in the modern era of chocolate by enabling it to be used as a confectionery and baking ingredient. This resulted in chocolate having a hefty price drop so it could be bought by the growing population of chocolate
