During the 1930s. the United States faced one of the greatest economic depressions in history, known as the Great Depression. Since many people essentially manipulated the stock market to their advantage, they eventually got richer. However, on October 29,1929, the stock market crashed since so many people wanted to sell their stocks but so few people wanted to buy these products, which caused prices to collapse. This led up to issues such as banking crisis, where banks who invested so heavily on the stock market lost so much money. In fact, people who deposited money lose everything they had. In addition, factories that has overproduced goods had also lost tons of money since businesses were producing far more goods than people were consuming. All these events that led to the Great Depression. Although Franklin D. Roosevelt came into office in 1933 and released his plans known as the New Deal which were essentially government programs that provided aid to Americans, it did not change the fact that the economy was still largely suffering. Meanwhile, tensions in Europe also increased as European countries were devastated from the hard times occurring in their nation. During World War II, children, women and families worked tirelessly and contributed to aiding the soldiers during their perilous fights. In 1939 through 1945, American families came together and as a community to work the hardest they ever have. Families helped one another to hold up their country with the absence of their men. “Wear it out, use it up, make it do, or do without.” (qtd. In FDR and The American Crisis), were words stressed to the women and children for support. The sacrifices the families made on the homefront, became just as paramount as the battlefronts. If the choices that were made didn’t prevail, the success of the war wouldn’t have ensued.

WWI have result a totally different war style under the new firearms, because the machine gun could take hundreds of people in really couple minutes, and the artillery have let each side could boom enemy in long range. The old way standing against each other’s block and shot each other doesn’t work in WWI anymore, so people invented Trenches, it basically is dig in to the ground so it can avoid the machine gun on the ground. Life before the war for British women came in all different types of varieties and experiences. The global economy was still in the midst of the Great Depression and with availability of work scarce, many British women unable to find work had concentrated their efforts on the home life of their parents or husbands. For example, such was the case of Betty Nettle as she lived with her family in an area primarily focused on mining. They were a middle class British family, though with finding work required connections since “if someone had a shop, their children worked in it – or their nieces and nephew, which meant that round here, as far as work went it was who you knew, not what you knew.”
One more day! Tomorrow is the day father is coming home from the Great War and I couldn’t be any more excited than I already am! He’s been gone for so long and I’m really looking forward to this. Everything’s going to be better. Mother won’t be sad anymore and everything will be normal again. She won’t be so tired from all of the work that father did when he was home. In my opinion, he shouldn’t have even left. He didn’t even have to go. He knew things were going to be hard for us. I just hope that he will apologize for leaving when he gets back.
Edward R. Murrow, former reporter for CBS once said, “We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason if we…remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate and to defend causes which were, for the moment unpopular.” Times are changing when it comes to the media covering wars. There was once a time in our country when journalists were not afraid to report the realities and atrocities, to a reasonable extent, that occurred during wartime. During the Vietnam conflict America saw what actually was happening in the jungle on the other side of the world and it enabled citizens to form their

Wealthy parents and the right wing politicians saw it as a movement that was out to destroy property and kill their children. Che Guevara describes the morning attack on Moncada garrison as a disaster because many of the rebels were killed on that day and a good number, including their leaders, were detained (Guevara, p.128). In Old Rosa: A Novel in Two Stories, Rosa is dejected that her son, Armando, has joined the war and might not come back. Though she clings on the thin line of hope that he will eventually show up, she understands that it might not be the case. Perhaps he could be shot dead or detained for several years (Arenas,
