In conclusion effective communication with children, young people and adults is fundamental to developing relationships. It should be remembered that whilst it is important for me to communicate effectively with others it is equally important for me to listen to others to further develop the relationships I have.
In setting up my classroom for a child who has a partial hearing loss, I would first make modifications and accommodations so that the child who has partial hearing loss can learn at their best. I would make sure the child is seated in the front of the room and I would keep my door shut during instruction, to minimize other noises. I would also use supplemental audio technology in conjunction with induction loop systems, remote microphones, and FM systems. FM systems will help a child with partial hearing loss by helping the child hear speech better when they are in noisy environments. A remote microphone will deliver a speech signal from the microphone to other audio devices such as a hearing aid, and a cochlear implant so that the child can
1.1 Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationship with children, young people and adults.
The key is to adapt your behaviour, speech, body language and communication according to your audience. A toddler or a younger child will need simpler words, shorter sentences and some physical contact such as cuddles and high fives for reassurance, younger children also have much shorter attention spans so learning through songs, pictures, games and play may be beneficial, this again will allow the child to see you play with them or cuddle them allowing a bond to form and trust to build.
Effective communication with children is important to make sure that they understand the language of learning so that they can grasp concepts and ideas, actively take part in problem solving and successfully develop their own ideas and opinions. It is important for children to be able to feel welcome in the classroom environment and valued within the school. 2.1 Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults.
Communication is extremely important in the workplace as it is essential that you develop good communications with everyone. This will then ensure that you develop a strong positive relationship, work well together and be able to share and gain information with each other. This will mean you can all work together to meet the needs of the children, young people and adults in the setting. If you do not have good relationships then it may cause bad feeling and a divide between colleagues. It may be the case that you will all not work well together or be able to share information then the parents and children may suffer. It is important to have good communication with the children in the setting as this ensures you have a good relationship with them which will help them feel more comfortable with us, which will help them settle in or provide reassurance during transitions in their lives as well as supporting them in their play and learning. It is also important that we remember that we are a role model to children and what behaviour we expect of them must be remembered by ourselves. Failing to do so will cause problems for children to understand the boundaries of what is acceptable. If parents see that you have a good relationship with the children it will help them feel more relaxed and helps them to trust us to care for their children.
There are many different opportunities out there to help children to communicate better. One way to help make the children’s communication more effective is investing in a translating service. The translating service is all about making documents of writing easier for parents/carers to read in a language that they will understand better. Not all parents’ speak fluent English and may find it easier to communicate in their own language rather than English. In this case to help communicate with the parent you would translate any documents which the parent needs into their own language i.e. translate the policies of the setting in English to Chinese. Here translation is very effective when communicating with the parents/carers as they can understand information more in a way which is better for them, it also helps the nursery to provide the
Communication skills – A child or young person’s communication skills have a massive impact on their overall development. Children who are lacking in communication skills can become easily frustrated and may begin to show aggressive behaviour. As communication skills require listening and the processing of information, children who have this difficulty will find it hard to concentrate in activities that involve these types of skills. Literacy is also linked to communication so, children with lack of these skills can find it hard to learn to read and write.
