Four Day School Week
At this point in time, school runs five days a week leaving two days off. A four day school week has always been there as an idea but never actually been the reality in our school district. The shortened week would provide the same amount of learning time in one less day making the school days longer to account for an additional day off. There are schools nearby us that have shifted to this schedule including the school on Bowen Island as well as several others in bc. One reason CHS should go to a four day school week is that students are more ordered and have more time to do homework. They get a whole extra day to do homework. Having their homework done on time results in better grades and being more organized. Going four days a week also helps kids learn better, it give the child's mind more time to rest. How would it sound if school weeks were only four days long and, in doing that, it saved your school money at the same time? Well, for some rural schools across the nation, this has become a reality. Four day school weeks are becoming a necessity for some rural school districts that lack funding. It provides a realistic way for schools to remain open and also has added benefits beyond saving money. Four day school weeks may not be a realistic situation for all schools throughout the nation, but for those that it is possible, the four day school week saves money, improves test scores, and further improves the school as a whole.
Can you imagine getting up on a Friday morning and not having to get up and go to school. This is becoming more than just a really good dream in some places across the country. Not so many years ago, school was a main part of my life, and the school days’ structure and length affected my social life and ability to study. From my own experience and some studies that I have seen, students benefit if school days are long.
The pros of four-day school are good for saving districts money. The one day off saving money on the service they pay to help the student such as transportation. The four day school week improve student and teacher attendance. On the extra day off they could schedule dentist appoint it and other appointments that need to be done, This means fewer substitute teachers. A teacher with the day off come back to school refresh and focus on the week. On the day of student and teacher can spend time with their families. They could go to a museum or go hiking and bond together.
A four day school week, an interesting thought for many. Some believe it will be a good thing with benefits and others think there will be more negative affects than positive. I believe that four day school weeks will be very beneficial. Even if getting a three day weekend means spending an extra hour or two at school for the four days that school will be attended. I believe that a four-day school week will be beneficial because it will give students and teachers a day to rest and get caught up with things that seem to be thrown at you during work and school time. More and more schools have switched to the four-day school week, and in many schools it has been beneficial to not just students but teachers as well. The four-day week is helpful in so many different ways, from catching up on homework to that extra rest from a long day. When a child is sick or needs a check-up at the doctor’s office, that extra day off gives them that time to take off without falling behind in school. Many schools have to deal with financial problems and with the four-day week that gives the school less expenses and in a long run will help tremendously.
