The Run for Wellness Free 5K run has been an ongoing event since 2011 created by the Houston Wellness Project. The organization was founded in response to the rising necessity for improving community access to wellness programing. The mission of The Houston Wellness Project is to strive to promote healthy lifestyle choices by educating people and communities on a culture of positive wellness education. The Run for Wellness Free 5K is the main event that assist in fulfilling the mission as it usually occurs three times a month in three different locations here in Houston. The 5K run is free event that encourages people of all ages to come out and participate in an event that promotes a healthy lifestyle. There are many sponsors that support the event and help it be free for the people. Some of those sponsors include The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Marathon Foundation, Ramey & Schwaller, Houston Striders, and many more. Without their support and donations, plus the help of the volunteers, there is no way possible this event would be free for people to come out and enjoy. Furthermore, people participating in the event are free to donate as well, but it is not mandatory.
The Saint Jude Bike-a-thon was a fundraiser my high school’s JROTC program ran every year to raise money for Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a unique facility that primarily works to cure children with cancer. Unlike other hospitals, the majority of funding for St. Jude comes from generous donors. It costs $2 million to operate
We are a charitable community holding a different charitable events. There are soldiers which is a long time supporter of our community. However, our community does not hold a charitable event for veterans yet, until it came up to our idea that its time to payback to our soldiers. We desire to help them through running.
The Long Walk was the forced removal of the Navajo people, which began in January 1864 in the Arizona and New Mexico states. It was hardly recognized by Americans at the time because of the Civil War and the slavery issues that were so much more important in the North and South part of the country. The Long Walk is the Navajo Nation’s own “Trail of Tears”. More than 8,500 Navajo men, women, and children were forced to relocate to an internment camp in New Mexico called the Bosque Redondo Reservation. The Navajo and some Apache were gathered from Arizona and New Mexico and had to walk between 375-498 miles depending on which route they took (Remley, pg 230).
I have gone on a vast amount of trail rides with several different horse. This ride was the first time I had ever taken D. D. (Deanna's Delight) out on one. This trail ride will not ever be able to forget.
I want to accomplish this goal in my twenties before I have a family. I want to backpack around Europe to become closer to nature and appreciate the different cultures. I want to explore beyond small-town Iowa.
Lorena Falasco Elementary implemented a Running Club this year. Our club meets two days a week after school. We have two coaches (teachers) and parent helpers per team, which are separated by grade levels. To include community members, we invited students from our local high schools that are on the cross country team, and individuals who have participated in 5k’s and half marathons to participate in our practices, we call them our “Celebrity Runners”. The excitement from our student’s faces was priceless. It was a fantastic opportunity to get our community members involved with our school, and to interact with our student’s in a positive way. What I learned by participating in this club is that something as simple as a running club for elementary students could make such a positive and a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved (parents, teachers, students, community members). By doing so, we created a welcoming atmosphere for Lorena Falasco Elementary
In sixth grade I quit the school band in the middle of my third year to join Running Club. The goal of Running Club was to run a 5k after weeks of practice and I accepted the challenge. Throughout the duration of training, I would find the long runs consistently demanding and a test to my motivation to persevere in the club. One of the coaches, Miss. Ames, was my teacher from the previous year and she ran with me during practice. She constantly encouraged me to push myself a little more every run and to keep practicing. I was frustrated with my performance, but Miss. Ames continued to encourage me. Nevertheless, preparing for that 5k was an eye-opening and an overall amazing experience.
The Selma Freedom March was done in order to take the bull by the horns and gain the right to vote with no tests or discrimination, while promoting peace and equal rights. The Freedom March took place in Montgomery, Alabama on the Edmund Pettus bridge where those, white or black marched 54 miles to the end promoting a mass demonstration to achieve equal voting rights.
After World War I, more than 20,000 veterans returned home unemployed and in drastic financial stress. In disbelief of their poverty and struggle, they impulsively marched their way to Washington, D.C. demanding the passage of a bill, launched by Representative Wright Patman, requiring immediate payment relief of their World War I bonus. This is where they acquired the name, The Bonus Marchers.
Since my confinement to my home because of my illness, I was not able to go out to my favorite place in Garfield Park where I have my morning devotion and engage people walking and some jogging. However, I was able to call my neighbor, James, and ask him if he would be receptive to helping me with this assignment and he said he had the time.
The Boston Marathon has always been one of the most popular event that goes on in Boston, now it is also the most remember able event because of the bombing on April 15, 2013. The wounded turned their tragedy into inspiration to tell others. Mayor J. Walsh says they will not be afraid. They will continue having this marathon for this marathon is special to the citizens of Boston.
All the duties were split up between my assistant coach, co-captain, myself, and a couple of other individuals who decided to assist us. Throughout the planning process, my objective was to entice hundreds of people to run in our race, while minimizing our costs. I reached out to the Westlake High School coach and asked him to time our meeting using his Finish Lynx system since we did not want to shell out hundreds of dollars to a timing company. We negotiated and agreed on $200 cash, which is extremely cheap compared to local timing

Galie’s et al. compared the six-minute walk distance (6-MWD) in patients twelve years or older with symptomatic pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) who took placebo versus 4 doses of oral tadalafil with or without bosentan. This multi-center, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized controlled study lasted 16 weeks. The patients were placed into 5 different groups: tadalafil 2.5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, or placebo once daily, and stratification was based on walking distance of 325m, type of PAH, and bosentan use. Patients were not qualified to participate in this study if they had a 6-mintue walk distance <150m or > 450m. Safety was determined by the level of adverse events severity. It was shown that all doses, but 2.5mg, improved 6-MWD at week 16, although, the tadalafil 40mg was the only one that was statistically significant (p<0.01). Compared with placebo, tadalafil 40mg had statistical significance of 6-MWD without bosentan therapy at 44m, versus patients with bosentan with a 6-MWD of 23m. The WHO functional class was not statistically significant in comparison with placebo because patients with better WHO functional class showed no difference in comparison to people with worse WHO functional class. After the 341 patients completed the 16 week trial, 334 of them accepted participation in another 16 week trial. Their 6-MWD slightly improved from 37m to 38m after 44 weeks, which was shown to be statistically significant (95% CI, 29 to 47). In addition, WHO functional
