Good Evening,
Ladies and Gentlemen. Before I start my speech I’d like to congratulate my fellow classmates on graduating. I would also like to thank everyone who came to be here for me today & who have supported me along the way. Lastly, I would like to thank my teacher Mrs. Navarro for being such a great educator, but more than that, a friend. I started my journey at VACE in May of 2016. I started attending eight hours a week and then eventually started going twenty hours a week. I never pictured myself being here today. I always thought it would take me so long to pass my GED. The other subjects I knew I could do, but the Math was intimidating to me. Math has always been my worse subject. When I started attending VACE I had no prior high school education. The most I had was an eighth grade level. I always felt limited on knowledge and never thought about how important schooling really was, until I had a child of my own. My son Hunter is my inspiration. I wanted to get my GED so I could then move on to college and pursue a career. I wanted to show him how important having an education is and to provide a better life for my family. I want him to grow up proud of me and look up to me for the things I’ve accomplished. I studied with a passionate desire for success and with having so many resources available to help me was tremendous. What really helped me was the structure that was provided through lessons in the class. Mrs. Navarro provided that structure and she’s such an important role to my success. I think of her more than just a teacher, but a friend too. I think it’s important to have a teacher like her. She cares about each of her students like they are her children and no one is forgotten.
