An act of terrorism has forever changed our nation from the moment it happened lasting forever. September 11, 2001 hijackers took control of four commercial airliners and purposely crashed two of the planes into the World Trade Center in New York. This attack killed thousands of people. It was a sight that had frightened millions as they watched from around the world. There is no direct answer as to which caused this. However, there are many beliefs of why this act of terrorism happened. There was and still is long lasting effects on what happened on 9/11.
This terrorist attack on America could have been because of the islamic religious beliefs in contrast to America’s. 9/11 has not been the only attack that has happened from Islam due to religious beliefs. “Islam’s war involves attacks on sacred symbols of other faiths.” (William, Mary E, pg. 22). These terrorists are known for destroying churches and burning down other sacred symbols and later replacing them with mosques because they don’t have the same beliefs that they follow. “Any evidence that there once was another religion on islamic soil must be effaced,” (Williams, Mary E, pg. 22). Islam did not want any other beliefs other than their own on their soil. Islam was willing to destroy anything against their beliefs in hopes of imposing a threat and gaining followers. “...Al-Qaeda is shorthand for a much larger religious phenomena-militant islamic fundamentalism that has spawned violence and terrorism against
After a horrible terroristic attack that shocked the whole world on September 11th in the center of New York City, Muslims in the Western world have been constantly fighting against prejudice. After September 11, media interest in Islam increased, where Islam was usually portrayed in a negative way. Before 9/11, many Muslims lived the normal, everyday life. However, the attack has changed lives of many people that belonged to the Muslim community, where they were the victims of guilt. Unfortunately, many Americans were introduced to Islam, after the 9/11 attack, thus even till today, Islam is associated with terrorism. For the past ten years, Muslims felt excluded from the American society by being rifled, attacked, discriminated, checked
September 11, 2011, started like every normal day in New York City. People rushing to work, children going to school, and people taking a morning walk or jog. But no one knew that this day would turn into a horror film. A terrorist organization call al-Qaeda hijacked airplanes and hammered them into the World Trade Centers North and South Tower along with the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The September 11, 2001, attacks changed America forever (9/11 Attacks - 102 minutes That Changed America).
Many people thought that September 11, 2001 was just another day, another simple day in New York. Nothing out of the ordinary was happening, until the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center. American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were hijacked and driven into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center in Manhattan. At the site, 2,753 people were killed when the planes crashed into the buildings and 2,977 people were killed in New York City, Washington, DC, and the outskirts of Shanksville, Pennsylvania due to terrorism. This destructive and devastating attack was at the hands of Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Terrorism was the cause of the devastating events that occurred on September 11, 2001. Through the Social Contract Theory, the Guantanamo Bay Prison, higher security in airports and the Patriot Act, have been used to cease the threat on America.
A terrorist attack is one of the most frightening things that one can encounter. They are unpredictable, random, senseless, and devastating. One of the largest and most well known acts of terrorism was the attack on the twin towers on September 11, 2001. During the attack close to 3,000 people were killed (September 11) and the nation of America was left in complete and utter fear. The laws and regulations passed as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 have been helpful to American society because of new safety precautions, assurance that nothing of that magnitude would ever occur again, and an overall increase of safety for American citizens.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists apprehended 4 airplanes and committed the most heinous act in American history. They flew two planes into the world trade center, one into the Pentagon, and one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania crash killing more than three thousand American citizens. Since 9 /11many things have changed in America in relation to our national security.
September 11, 2001 was a day that everyone who was old enough to remember will remember for the rest of their lives. I was in the fourth grade when the World Trade Centers were crashed into. I remember our principal coming on the intercom and saying that we were not allowed to turn our televisions on. I did not understand the magnitude of the situation until I got home and my parents explained it to me. I remember that every plane I saw over my head scared me and I was afraid that a plane was going to be crashed into my home or school. The general population reaction to the attack was that of hysteria and worry. People were afraid of flying. People also feared that this was only the precursor to an even bigger attack that was being planned on the United States. The public wanted someone to blame for the incident and they wanted to know why the government had not prevented the attack if they had been given intelligence that an attack might happen. The years leading up to this terrible day in history were full of tough decisions. No one can say that the government was not interested in terrorism at all. They had small departments in the FBI and CIA that looked at and interpreted terrorism related intelligence. The decisions the government had to make changed the United States forever. There was not one factor that defined how the government dealt with terrorism collectively. The government had to take into account not only the actions to take against
September 11. 2001 was a major turning point in American History, and its political and social impact can still be felt today. The tragic event shook the entire country on the civilian and federal level. Before 9/11 many did not think that a plan of terrorism such as that of Osama Bin Laden's would be able to come to fruition because they had great trust in American security. The destruction came as a wakeup call to the federal government and American citizens themselves. National Security became the first thing people thought of when they traveled, and civilians looked to the government for reassurance that they were safe. The federal government's plan of action was to pass a series of acts that would go on to create the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Association. Along with the creation of more strict security measures came the question of "who is a terrorist?" within the country. The formation of the DHS, TSA, and increase of Islamophobia are some examples of the lasting effects that 9/11 had on the country.
On September 11th, 2001, the worst terror attack on US soil took place. 19 people associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda took 4 airplanes and carried out suicide to kill people in the United States. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center, another plan hit the pentagon just outside Washington, D.C, and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. These attacks caused massive destruction, forcing the U.S to combat terrorism and “defining the presidency of George W. Bush” (History). 9/11 is one of the most tragic events in the history of America, minute by minute people feared and this fear brought the country together in a way that it never did
While 9/11 was a very important moment in the lives of many Americans, not many realize the direct impact this tragedy has had on their lives, and their country. For one, 9/11 greatly changed America’s involvement in wars. It also completely changed the way airport security works in America. Finally, 9/11 caused the American government to begin collecting significantly more data from its citizens, something which has been quite unpopular with the American populace. No matter how you look at it, 9/11 has left a permanent mark on America.
The events of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 changed not just the American way of life, but the way in which terrorism will forever be viewed. Moments after the first plane changed our way of life by crashing into the first tower, it also changed the way people will live their lives for many generations from that point forward. For the first time on Continental United States soil, America was under siege.
On September 11, 2001, an event known as 9/11 occurred. An Islamic extremist group, Al-Qaeda, hijacked four planes to carry out suicide missions against several targets in the United States. They attacked the World. Trade Center in New York City with two planes, The Pentagon near Washington DC, and the other crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The attacks are significant to US history because it alerted the country to the vulnerability of our way of life, and to the anger, bitterness and. resentment toward the U.S. by other countries in the world, especially in parts of the Islamic world.
September 11th, 2001 have affected and changed many Americans. After the “terrorist” (The reason why I have put terrorist in quotes because I believe that the 9/11 was an inside
We all remember that tragic day on September eleventh 2001. Four planes were hijacked and placed with a particular mission. Two planes hit the north and south tower of the World Trade Center. One hit the Pentagon, and one landed in a field in Pennsylvania. Many changes were made to the world because of 9/11. Some of those changes are airport security, war, and government issues. September eleventh changed the world changed for the better and worse.
There has been many events in history that has shifted the way society views the world. One of the many events that has dramatically changed history was 9/11. On September 11 , 2001 4 planes were hijacked. 2 planes crashed into the World Trade Center , 1 plane crashed into the Pentagon , and the last plane crashed into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Flight 93, which was the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania, was supposed to hit the White House, but never made it there because the passengers aboard fought back and attempted to stop the four hijackers. When the first plane hit the North tower , many people thought that it was a freak accident until citizens seen the second plane intentionally hit the South tower. It was then , that
Joshua Woods evidently explains this in his article: “The 9/11 effect: Toward a social science of the terrorist threat.” Woods outlines the short and long-term effects 9/11 had on Muslims and Arabs residing in the United States. Woods’ findings, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, state that hate crimes against Muslims increased substantially from 33 in 2000 to 546 in 2001 (Woods 2011). A year after the attacks, 14% of Americans believed that “mainstream Islam encouraged violence against non-Muslims” (Woods 2011). Two years later, this number had doubled to approximately 34% (Woods 2011). Violence and hate crimes against Muslims included: four murders, 49 assaults and 109 attacks on Mosques (Woods 2011). For long-term effects, anti-Islamic hate crime remained well above pre-9/11 levels for the next four years. With 191 offenses in 2006, this stat exceeded the pre-9/11 level by six times (Woods 2011). Woods goes further stating that the US invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan prompted further anti-Islamic attitudes within Americans (Woods
