9/11 Reflection

According to the chapter “under attack”, it covers the backlash of people. The attacks occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 11,2001. Four airplanes lost control by nineteen men; these airplanes were heading to Los Angeles and San Francisco from different cities. The first stolen airplane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center and the New York City’s 911-call system was receiving dozens of reports about the crash, media and photographer turned their cameras to the incident. However, few reporters said that the incident was deliberate. Government’s response was sent out from New York and New Jersey and it was the largest rescue operations in the nation’s history. In addition, more than a thousands first responders, police officers, firefighters, and paramedic were deployed when the first crash occurred, triage areas were sat up around the World Trade Center to aid the people that have been affected by the incident. Therefore, police units were shutting down subways stations as the firefighters evacuated the civilians.

Commonly, in case of disaster people always looking for someone to blame, to put their anger on, and put someone accountable for. Arab and American Muslims quickly recognized the magnitude and the significant of 9/11 attacks and anticipated the likelihood of serious repercussions, while people in the United States already had negative stereotypes against Arab and Muslims communities in the United States. These stereotypes were caused by many events; 1979 Iran hostage, 1985 stolen airplane in Lebanon, and Libya bombing in 1986.
