The walls were cream colored, and the furniture white. She had record player and a small, organized desk on the wall opposite the lilac bed. There was a bookcase and a nightstand on either side of the bed. Pink lace curtains were kept open at the window and a small pile of cardboard boxes were stacked up in the corner. “Oh no, your room is beautiful,” May said. The diffused light became a blinding glare as Toni swam back to the surface of reality. Her head felt as if it were being pounded with a sledgehammer. There was a thick silence around her, broken only by a steady beeping sound in the background. She vaguely felt numerous tubes and needles poking into her body.
