Through my life I’ve had many special accomplishments, but the one that meant the most to me was the time when I got my second degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. I currently am a second degree black belt with 8 years of consistent training. My journey through this experience was not at all easy. In fact, I had to go through much dedication, time, and sacrifice. My training involved me going to practice 4 days a week, not including tournaments, weekend practices, and times when I went to practice when I wasn’t required to. All this training prepared me for tests that I had to earn in order to get my next belt; many people have failed, but I’ve never failed a single test. Whenever I mention that I do martial arts, the first question that is posed to me is “Are you a black belt?” Well, now I finally have the answer. Yes. My black belt holds a significant value in my life and it always will. So far, this is the biggest achievement for me and my family played an equally important role in this accomplishment. At the beginning of seventh grade, I would always joke around that I would do wrestling, like with all the other guys. Later on that year when wrestling season was starting I decided to sign up. I didn’t know what being in wrestling was going to be like because it would be like nothing I’ve ever done before.

My first day of karate class is very memorable. I was only ten years old then. I was very passionate about learning karate, so dad enrolled me in the Army Junior Club. As he dropped me off he said, “Dear, don’t get beat up.” I think that he was joking. I smiled back and rushed in to the building. The room was covered with soft blue padding to reduce injuries during falls. It also smelled of sweat and hard work. My karate instructor came in and looked at us. We were a mixture of sorts, children from the age of six to seventeen. The older children were sent to another room with another instructor.

I started wrestling in sixth grade. Even though I didn’t win one of my first seven matches, I developed into a successful wrestler. In high school I won tournaments and beat high-quality wrestlers. During my junior year I was determined to become a great wrestler. I worked harder than ever and didn’t let anyone stop me. That year I lost the Illinois state wrestling tournament championship match by one point. Over the next six months between my junior and senior season I was runner up at AAU national tournament and wrestled at Disney Land in Florida at the Disney Duals with over 50 other teams and only lost 1 of 8 matches. My opponent is my teacher and my ego is my enemy. During the beginning of 9th grade I had always wanted to get a membership at a gym and so happen that my cousin started working at this new gym called UFC, she invited me to check it out. Monday in the afternoon, I went to the gym and from the moment I first stepped foot in that gym I loved the vibe there. Everybody pleasantly welcomed me. I first started taking DUT (Daily Ultimate Training) classes which worked more on strength and conditioning.
