Security Services is one of those sectors which has remained unaffected by the economic slowdown and growing at a rapid pace. The private security services is one of the largest employers in India. As per Frost and Sullivan, the number of security personnel currently employed in India are around 6.5 million. In the last couple of decades, a number of multinational security service providers have entered the Indian private security service space. At the same time, many regional service providers have emerged. Rapid urbanization has increased the demand for security service increasing the market size significantly. Industry Overview:
Manned guarding
Manned guarding is the largest segment in the security services industry both in terms of personnel and revenue. It involves manpower to secure premises and individuals. Incidences of crime and terrorist attacks and high growth of infrastructure projects has driven the demand for security personnel. Also, the availability of government employed personnel is limited and costly to deploy. The increasing difference between the demand and supply of government security has triggered the demand for private security players. Migration from rural to urban areas in search of employment has also led to an increased availability of manpower for the private security service companies. The activities in manned guarding include surveillance, protection of industrial, commercial and infrastructure facilities, protection of goods and people, security checking, toll gates and crowd management. The key drivers of an increase in organized market are – strict enforcement of regulations, centralized contracts and investing in training facilities by large companies. The unorganized sector is less compliant to labor laws and wages are a function of market dynamics. The pricing in this segment of

To start off with I chose to go with our banking or financial industry. The banking industry is constantly getting attacked by various methods on a daily basis. I chose this industry because I happen to know someone who works in the security sector at Wells Fargo Bank, he was a good person to get information on what he sees on a daily or weekly basis. This paper is the opinion of myself and with gathered information from various resources.
Public policing and private security have several distinct differences in their essential policies. The essential policies for public policing are hierarchically organized; there are many official and formal levels of public agencies positions. Civil service examinations are the means of choosing only the most qualified personnel based on merit, the government gives the policies to public policing to execute. Again, the treatments of citizens using government services are to be fair and just and Public affairs focus is given to the management of public agencies and organizations. In addition, public service-oriented profit is not a motive they serve the public and publicly funded tax revenues fund these public administrations.
The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (2016) reported that the median annual wage for security guards, which make up the bulk of Securitas’ work force, was $24,630. Using the cost of turnover rate of 25% the median annual wage of 72,360 employees, calculations suggests that Securitas lost approximately 445 million dollars to employee turnover costs in North America. This figure represents an opportunity to reduce cost by examining potential causes of employee turnover, and taking corrective action to reduce
When using force, private security personnel are high risk for criminal and civil prosecution. The use of deadly force must be limited to clear and present dangers to the life of the security officer. Even when tasked with guarding highly valuable property, the use of deadly force is not appropriate in all situations. In many cases, it will be the poorly trained or overly zealous security officer that ends up being charged with a crime (Satchell, 2017).
To understand the role(s) of a Security Manager, a person must know what security is and what it means to an organization. According to Ortmeier, “security may be defined as a public or private service-related activity that provides personnel, equipment, and creates policies and procedures designed to prevent or reduce losses. These losses, caused by criminal action as well as by noncriminal events resulting from human error, emergencies, man-made and natural disasters, and business intelligence collection by competitors”. (2009).
Public policing stands for more in society than private security because of the funding provided. Most private security agencies have to acquire more public access to obtain society’s opinion and to get customers to represent the company. The more information gathered about the two companies and compared for society to view the better outcome for the final result for each company to experience in
“Security programs are aimed at creating an appreciation and understanding of the Security Department’s objectives as they relate to the specific industry they serve” (Sennewald, 2013). Businesses come in all different sizes, some big some small. Businesses need a plan to ensure assets, personnel, and facilities are protected and this plan must be actively in place. Security programs provide businesses with the framework needed to keep a business or company at the security level needed to operate. This can be done in numerous ways. Assessing the risks involved, lessening the gravity of those risks, and keeping the security program and the security practices updated are just to name a few. In this core assessment paper, I will identify an actual organizational security program, conduct
There are two types of security, the higher level and the lower level. Both of these you have to be recruited and trained for. For higher level security, managers are drawn increasingly to those college graduates who have degrees in criminal justice and have taken additional coursework such as business management to increase their knowledge of policing the law. These graduates often benefit from quick promotions, and stock options. For the lower level security it is a bit different because these personnel handle guarding factories, stores, apartments, and other buildings.
Private security personnel can be utilized in non-secure areas, parking lots and to man the peripheral facilities which support but are not necessarily vital to key operations. Airport operators must first determine which areas of airport property, while not necessarily high-risk, do exhibit vulnerabilities and fill those gaps with a uniformed presence. In order to accommodate this strategy, the airport operator must be familiar with state and local ordinance as it pertains to use of private security
Before we begin we must first understand the different definitions of proprietary and contract security operations. There are many definitions and explanations that are used to distinguish between the two but I will use the definitions provided by Fischer, in his book titled Introduction to Security. “Proprietary security operations are those that are “in-house,” or controlled entirely by the company establishing security for its operations” Fischer, Robert; Halibozek, Edward; Walters, David (2012-11-23). Introduction to Security (Kindle Locations 877-878). Elsevier Science. Kindle Edition. A good example of this would be if a company purchases all the equipment and security personnel to provide security functions
Security in America has evolved from the time of the first settlers to today’s well-trained forces. Factors leading to the significant growth of private security from pre-Civil War to post World War II consisted of a lack of public police and large monetary loss by private industry. Today, security is global and faces challenges and changes, with increases in terrorism and technology crimes. It must maintain a high level of professionalism and maintain technological innovation remain a respected industry.
The security guard services industry consisted of two segments: proprietary guards and contract guards. The historical growth was driven by companies realizing, that contracting guards allowed them gain operating flexibility instead of managing their own security personnel. In 1987 security guard services was a $10 billion industry growing at 6% a year. Due to the industry being very mature, fragmented, and price competitive there was an ongoing consolidation trend.

The American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) is today’s main association of private security. The year of 1955 is considered the beginning of the modern age of security. Private security was needed everywhere, in hospitals, hotels, retail etc… as stated in (chapter 2, P.38) that ‘’ Retail establishments, hotels, restaurants, theaters, warehouses, trucking companies, industrial companies, hospitals, and other institutional and service functions were all growing and facing a serious need to protect their property and personnel’’. After the events of 9/11, private security agencies were required to play more roles in crime prevention. Private security agencies were required to review and standardize their method of training and to review the pay of employees. Lot of recommendations have been made to improve the education and training, above all the extension of training time.
