As a recent graduate from the Health Care Administration and Planning (HCAP) program at Tennessee State University my desire for Health Care Administration has grown tremendously. My passion has always been Long Term Care, from observing family members being admitted into a facility with high abuse rates, sitting with the elderly at a young age, to completing an internship at National Healthcare Corporation (NHC) during the summer of 2016 under the Regional Director, Mr. Tim Shelly. I have always had a love for the aging population and wanted to work in an environment that believed in producing the best quality of care for the aging population. I will pursue a career in Long Term Care Administration because it is essential that facilities
The profession I am pursuing in the Kaplan University is Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration. With this profession I can definitely have a different option on where to work either in a hospital, long term care, doctor office, and hospice agency. This type of career long term care administrator is a very well paid job, but that comes with a lot of responsibilities a lot of long hours. One of many responsibility is budget planning, personal, board meeting, and employee overview. As an administrator you also need to be in compliance with local, state, and federal laws making sure guidelines are being followed.
“He who has health has hope. And he who has hope, has everything.”- Benjamin Franklin. The decision to pursue a lifetime of service within the Healthcare industry was quite easy for me. After witnessing the importance of having exceptional health care first hand, I want to do everything I can to assist others by ensuring that healthcare policies and procedures are followed properly. Without proper health care, a person can feel lost and hopeless. I believe that an Administrative Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital will enable me with the necessary tools to plan, direct, communicate, and govern effectively in a health care facility.
Health care administration is a professional challenging environment with some of the most critical issues and problems in our society. Health care administration combines my knowledge and experience in business and health care. My accomplishments are a result of my ability to assess situations, generate a plan of action, and work the plan. Following is my plan of action for my career in health care:
My advanced practice specialty area is adult through gerontology primary care. At age 16, the love of my grandmother led me to apply for a housekeeping position in the nursing home she resided. Toileting my grandmother, performing evening hygiene, and placing my grandmother into bed after work every evening was an honor. My grandmother’s nursing
I chose a learning plan topic that would increase my nursing practice competency as a senior nursing student, would be relevant to my placement setting, would build on my knowledge obtained from completing NSE417 – Nursing Practice IV class and NSE407 – Nursing: Professional Issues and Trends class, and was approved by my Primary Preceptor and Faculty Advisor (FA). With a global trend of an increasing senior population and having a placement in a nursing home, it was important to choose a learning plan that focused on the challenges and trends in senior safety. My Overarching goal for my learning plan was to expand my knowledge and critical thinking skills related to expertly assessing and managing elder frailty in a long-term care setting by Tuesday, March 1, 2016. By completing this learning plan, I have fulfilled and demonstrated the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)’s Continuing Competency Standard by performing a self-assessment of my knowledge, developing and implementing a learning plan, and evaluating the outcomes of the plan (CNO, 2002). Ultimately, the goal is to enhance geriatric care at my placement setting and advance my competency in delivering safe, ethical, competent client-centred care.
As a health care administrator/manager it will be imperative for you to work with the
Health care administrators play a critical role in demanding medical field. There are many challenges and benefits within the administrator role. A great health care administrator can transform the healthcare organization. Within this in mind, Dionne Epstein agreed to conduct in-person interview to discuss her insight regarding the healthcare industry. Ms. Epstein has a unique background experience in healthcare and administrative services for over ten years. She even worked at Charity Hospital during and post-Katrina here in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ms. Epstein was a perfect candidate to discuss about the healthcare industry because of her educational background and experience.
Long-term care healthcare delivery will be a great/popular option for many of these senior citizens. The long-term care healthcare delivery system falls within the continuum of care. The continuum of care is a series of heath care services that are provided to a great number of older adults who are in need of them throughout the course of their life/older life. The care ranges from: personal care, custodial care, restorative care, skill nursing care, and sub acute care (Shi & Singh, 2012). Different providers work together within the continuum to provide the right care to those in need. The continuum of care, as stated in Long Term Care: Managing Across the Continuum, is “comprehensive, integrated, and client-oriented”(Pratt, 2010). All the services offered should be client-based and cater to the client’s needs and suitable care. The client should be able to obtain services when it is needed from the provider, making it comprehensive. All the different long-term care providers should be interconnected between one another, because their goal is all the same, which is to care for the client’s needs. The continuum of care consists of: nursing facilities, sub acute care, assisted living, residential care, elderly housing, and a variety of community-based services (Pratt, 2010). All these different providers work together to care for the individuals within the health care industry, creating the continuum and making it integrated. As the future progresses and a great amount of
I attended an Arizona Health Care Association (AZHCA) regulatory and quality meeting. The AZHCA is a non-profit professional association of skilled nursing facilities (SNF), assisted living centers (ALF), and businesses that represent the profession of long term care. It was formed to promote standards and ethics in the profession of long term health care, and to advocate quality care for nursing facility and assisted living residents. Their goal is to strengthen the ability of its member facilities to deliver quality care to meet the needs of Arizona’s elderly and disabled residents. They do this by working closely with federal and state agencies and community partners to develop, amend, and implement reasonable legislation, regulatory policies, and standards of care.
The necessity for long-term care is increasing which will require additional training and education for health care personnel, family members, and patients. Family members can have peace of mind knowing their family member will gain confidence in learning how to become accustomed to his or her new life while maintaining a quality continuum of care during and after treatment for physical, mental, or age associated illnesses.
IntroductionThere has been an issue with lack of care in long term care facilities. Some examples ofthese issues include the following: pressure ulcers, falls, dehydration, insomnia, abuse ofrestraints, etc. of the elderly residents. Therefore, there has been studies performed to determinewhat needs to be changed and what the effect these changes would have on the facility as well asthe workers or nursing assistants. These studies take place in two different facilities in Quebec,Canada. It is sad how the majority of the workers interviewed have the same complaints thatdirectly relate to the reasons why proper care is not provided, yet nothing has been done to fixthose issues.DevelopmentThe most important factor to the career of a nursing assistant and the care of the elderlyin facilities is time.
(Tampa, FL) According to Caregiver.org, more than eight million people receive long-term care support in the form of nursing homes, home health agencies, residential care communities, adult day care centers and home health agencies. Individuals age 65 and older are extremely likely to need assistance in two areas of daily life or suffer from cognitive impairment, and this figure is expected to rise significantly by 2050, as a result of the aging population. Individuals emplore Staffing (https://www.360healthcarestaffing.com/director-nursing-jobs-long-term-care/) may be of help in locating these jobs.yed in long term care will find they are more in demand as a result, and some individuals may choose to pursue DON jobs in long term care. 360 Healthca
The growing number of the elderly patient has a direct impact on nursing practice. The issue of” baby boomers” having an increased life expectancy may have jobs security for the nurses in future as evidenced by multiple improvements in cardiac surgery in older population. The aging of the baby boomers is expected to produce a plethora of new nursing jobs, which could lead to higher wages, greater job security, and greater variety in types of work (Page, 2015).
My mission is to become a professional who would manage, lead, and improve a dynamic healthcare system. Understandably, marketing and public relations in healthcare require financing and regulations to make positive impacts in the lives of clients and co-workers. My interest in taking a healthcare career was founded on three factors: leadership, quality improvement, and healthy aging. My career mission is founded on emerging as a skilled servant leader by not doing the job for myself, but to fulfill the organization’s mission. I would prefer serving my clients without an ego and I will include both paperwork helping patients, staff members and official meetings. Overall, I am passionate about a client-directed philosophy that puts the health needs of patients above the convenience of my organization. The current situation demands that healthcare practitioners build healthcare models in the needs of clients served rather than the customs of staff.
I am interested in pursuing an administrative career within a major health system. The UNC Fellowship Program will provide opportunities for me to : (1) gain operational and financial exposure to health care delivery within a nationally competitive health system; (2) acquire a diverse leadership perspective through shadowing and mentorship with Senior Leaders; (3) support UNC operational initiatives by leading at least one significant project that improves patient quality of care within a service line(s). In addition, I hope to learn more about how research interacts with clinical care and gain further insight and to see how the overarching strategy of UNC Health Care interacts with the School of Medicine and medical staff organization. My goal at the end of the Fellowship is to smoothly make the transition to a young leader in health care administration armed with the knowledge and foundation in health care management that I have acquired during the
