A Digest on the 7 C’s of Written COMMUNICATION
Essence of the material
Clarity, completeness, coherence, conciseness, credibility, correctness, and continuity – these are all the 7 C’s of communication – collectively, this is what is required to achieve more effective communication practices which eventually lead to a more effective learning process. Each C in itself is already an enormous task to maintain but more so when we consider they are not independent of one another, they all work together to help us communicate most efficiently. Clear is when we allow the reader to understand the meaning of our message, as you intended it to be understood. When it is said that it should be so even the dullest man should understand it, it means we should simplify our vocabulary. The message, more importantly, should be crisp and precise. That’s how it “brings the script alive” and “can bring flavor in the most arid and dry news story” as totally, it makes the difference between a write-up that satisfies and one that does not. Complete is when a complete picture and all the information required for a reader to take action and respond is all there. An adjective is also taken into consideration here: unified- in individual sentences, individual paragraphs, and the whole totality of the script. Also take into consideration the principle that each simple sentence must answer the who, what, when, why, where, and how questions as appropriate for each of your communication efforts. Coherent is closely related to clarity - easy to read and understand with a logical flow and sequence – it just means tying up several ideas in one topic. Concise is omitting all that creates ambiguity. It means saying all that needs to be said and no more. Credible is clarity, correctness and completeness added up to forceful and direct writing. Correct is

Communication is complete only when the receiver understands the message in the same sense and spirit that sender intends to convey. However, communication does not take place completely because of the illusion that it has been accomplished. The great cause of illusion is sender's inability to understand the audience. Without analysing audience, the chances of effectiveness of the communication decrease.
This assignment will discuss two well known theories of effective communication. Firstly it will look at Michael Argyle (1972), the cycle of communication and then it will discuss Bruce Tuckman (1965) stages of communication.
Communication is essential in everyday life. The more efficient and effective we communicate the better quality of life we can achieve not only for ourselves but for those around us. We need communication for numerous reasons: -

In many walks of life we are and will be constantly influenced by different meanings, and we all have to interpret what is actually being said. We can be accurate with what is being said, or with our perception of the meaning of the message it is not always clear, and precise. We must all strive to do the very best that we can, even with all education and people skills training it is not

One of the fears that I have about the process of writing is the inability to write clear and concise sentences that the reader can understand. Sentence clarity frightens me as I have what I want to say in my head, however, it does not always come out perfectly when I put the thought into writing. When transferring my thoughts into writing I typically form run on sentences and mix my words together. This is where my fear of clarity becomes an issue. When writing clearly, I often assume that my reader understands or has a prior knowledge on my topic. Typically, this leads me to form incomplete sentences or the leaving out of an essential piece of information that gives the sentence its meaning. Along with the fear of the inability to write

“Clutter is the disease of American Writing. We are a society strangling in unnecessary words, circular constructions, pompous frills and meaningless jargon.” William Zinsser expresses his frustrations regarding the writers of America in the previous statement. I whole-heartedly agree with Zinsser. There have been dozens of times where I have had to reread and even deconstruct sentences to figure out what the main point was. Extra words make sentences confusing and misleading. Unnecessary words and phrases can cause the reader to lose focus and lose interest. I have found that when I don’t understand what I am reading, my mind starts to wonder and all of a sudden, I’ve read three pages and nothing stuck in my brain.
