'A Good Man Is Hard To Find'

A good man or woman signifies that both genders try to do the right thing whenever possible. It does not mean perfection, but the goal is to get as close as possible to treating others with dignity, trust, and respect. With that said, the story “A Good Man is Hard to Find” does show elements of the characters defining what ‘good’ could potentially mean.
The characters in the story talk about a woman who lives with his son and his family. The woman’s character sets a tone of someone that is very talkative, opinionated, and social. The tone of a story is the way the author expresses attitude in their writing. Evidence of this is throughout the story from the time the family gets ready to leave for vacation, to her encounter at the restaurant with Red Sammy, and her coming face to face with an escaped criminal. The children in the story display kids with a lot of sass, spunk, and vocal to the point that it seems that they are out of line with what they say. The boy, John, asks his grandmother to stay home if she doesn’t want to go with them to Florida; the girl, June, complains out loud that their grandmother has to go everywhere that they go (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012). …show more content…

Sammy was generous enough to allow the young people to charge their gas because he believed they worked at the mill according to the story by Kirszner and Mandell (2012). Sammy spoke that a good man is hard to find when the conversation went toward the criminal that was on the loose. He reminisced on how back in the days, people could leave their doors unlocked and no one would get harmed (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012).
