A Hero Is A Hero

Everyone has their own idea of what a hero is and what a hero does. Most people think that guys like superman and batman are heroes because they have incredible superpowers and they are famous people who receive glory. Many people describe heroes as strong and indestructible people, however, heroes are actually not always famous and they are not always the way that society portrays them. In fact, most heroes are ordinary people who do extraordinary things and have notable traits for society to follow. Although heroes are mostly overlooked or misinterpreted by many people, a hero is always a courageous, selfless, and persistent person who has the determination to create change for the better.

To be a hero can can be defined in many ways. Heros are usually associated with courage, fearlessness, noble qualities, outstanding achievements, and a kind heart. These traits are what make up an ideal contributor to society helping those in need. The word hero can have a different meaning for cultures and religions. Osama Bin Laden may be considered a hero to the radical islams but he is a horrible human being to the rest of the world. It all depends on the views of the people.

According to Joseph Campbell, "A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself" . This means that a hero is person who is made a sacrifice for the good of others. A Hero is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as "a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities" . This means that a hero is someone people look up to. Anyone can be a hero. Heroes have qualities such as bravery, strength, and selflessness. Mothers, soldiers, and Odysseus are all examples of heroes.

What exactly is a hero? To some it’s a fictional character with a cape who possesses a special power that helps them do great things for others; and to others it a completely different story. To me, a hero is someone who has made a good difference on not just my life, but others as well and has inspired us to never give up, to better ourselves, and to try and live life to the fullest. For example, Josh Hamilton, he has made a big difference and has had a good impact on my life in probably every aspect you can think of and not only that, but he has shown me that you can always get back up and fight, you can always overcome your life’s obstacles, also he has shown me that you should always have your faith in the Lord.

Brave, strong, legendary, these are words that come into mind when we think of a hero, but what are heros? To become a hero you must complete at least 1 extraordinary task, defeating a monster, saving a damsel in distress, earning your police badge. Once you earn your title, half the job is done, now all you have to do is exist. It's been proven that towns with a police force have less crime than towns without one, what dragon wants to wreak havoc in Beowulf's backyard? A Hero's place in society is up on a pedestal, watching over the community, where no one can reach them.

There are many interpretations of what describes a hero and the actions they take. Whether it's selfless individuals that protect others against harmful entities or powerful figures in costumes that depict moral greatness and power fantasies, everyone has their own vision of what constitutes a hero. Like many of our own thoughts and opinions, these visions often stem from the environment and upbringing of the people that have them. A fantastic example of this aspect of our thoughts is the way George Orwell described a hero. He views a hero as someone who will do whatever they can to change social systems that lack respect for human decency, even if they know it is impossible to create such change.

In early British literature, more specifically Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green knight, Lanval, and The Wife of Bath’s prologue and tale, heroism can be traced through three main aspects, bravery, loyalty, and strength. The hero is the protagonist that is defined by their bravery, being unafraid to confront those who stand in their way, testing their faith in their own self, they must be loyal to their authority, ready to protect the lands of their king, testing their will to risk their life for their king, and strength, finding ones physical, mental, or emotional strength to be physically able to fight for their life or mentally capable to outsmart those who oppose them. However, one could consider that there is no one universal definition for what a certain person may believe to be heroic. Looking at different people or characters and their lives, there are various defining aspects that make him or her a hero. Specifically examining the heroes throughout The Hobbit, Of Mice and Men, and I Am Malala; one can see how the characters have different characteristics that may make him or her a hero. To really characterize a hero, some traits that are necessary would be bravery and selflessness. A hero is someone who willingly fights for a cause or the greater good that may not directly affect them yet works to a better situation.

There are many heroes in the world today extending from professional athletes to parents. A hero isn’t necessarily someone who can fly or do supernatural things. A Hero is defined as “someone who does the right thing at the right time because it is the right thing to do. Regardless of who is watching.” Being a hero means standing up for what one believes in and not letting other people’s opinions

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionaries, a hero is “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities” (“Hero” def. 1). A hero is also “a person who is greatly admired” (“Hero” def. 2). While brave acts, fine qualities and admiration generally sum up what a hero is, I believe that these individuals who impact our daily lives deserve more respect and honor than what this simple definition gives them. A hero is someone who is genuine, valorous, and not afraid of self-sacrifice.

Who is a hero? Is it a veteran, celebrity, or an everyday mom or dad? Well, heroes or heroines are usually defined as anyone who are idealized for their courage, outstanding achievements, or their brave deeds. Heroic stature can be obtained through a single act. Numerous people have established themselves as heroes by doing a single act that demonstrated extraordinary heroism, others on the other hand have done multiple acts to become a hero. Not everyone is born to be a hero, but anyone can achieve the title of a hero by simply helping others in various ways. Therefore, a single act can establish one as a hero or heroine no matter who they are.

The fact of the matter is, heroes come in different forms. A hero is someone who puts others before themselves. They possess heroic attributes that make them seen
