I selected Apple, Inc. (AAPL). Apple belongs to the electronic equipment industry sector.
2. What are the operating risks of the company?
Basically operational risk means the possibility of incurring a loss due to inadequate or unsuccessful processes, employees and systems or external event. Apple has been emphasizing the importance of capital risk management focusing on continuity of operations, alongside with planning ahead for the future and the increasing reliance over cloud computing to enhance the resilience factor of systems.
On the other hand, the company still faces several operational risks that could affect the production process, sales and ultimately the net income generated which will lead to a drop in Apple stock prices and hurt the investors on the long run.
1. Competition is one of the major risks that face Apple and could potentially affect the company’s performance severely if Apple
It is quite obvious from the case that Apple is facing many obstacles. It has way more competitors today than it had two or three decades back. Part of it has to with the highly globalized environment that companies are operating in these days. Another major obstacle is the technological environment which is rapidly changing compared to the one that Apple experienced when it first emerged on the global scene. But the most important of it all seems to be a mental thing. It appears that Apple, over a period of time, developed a rigid mental model that related success of Apple with sheer innovation. This same mental model has lead to demise of many companies in the past, Xerox Corporation being the prime example of that.
The Fortune 500 Company chosen for this paper is the Lockheed Martin Corporation. Lockheed Martin is a global securities and information technology company headquartered in Bethesda, MD. Lockheed Martin employs roughly 126,000 people in several facilities throughout the world. The company's main business is in research, design, development, manufacturing, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. Lockheed consists of four operating units, or business areas, which consist of Aeronautics, Electronic Systems, Information Systems and Global Solutions, and Space Systems (LMC, 2011).
They could leverage opportunities by being able to maintain their devoted customers and offer to them discounts or special promotions for the products. This would attract other potential customers. The potential damage may occur if Apple is not able to stay in the competition or cannot innovate; they are threatened if Google’s Android is advancing faster and faster because people like to stay in touch with the technology and would choose the best product in the market.

The company selected for our financial analysis project is Chipotle Mexican Grill. Chipotle (for short) is a company that is a major player in the fast food and restaurant industry. The name “chipotle” is derived from the Mexican Spanish name for a smoked, dried Jalapeno pepper.
