Origins, A New Insight
With increasing evidence, it is becoming ever more evident that a large Mars-sized body, Theia impacted the planet that was to become Earth. This collision caused fragmentation of the two celestial objects and eventually coalesced to form the moon. (1) Scientists have analyzed the Moon’s levels of oxygen molecule types are identical to Earth’s. (2) Thus, the collision delivered much of the Oxygen necessary for early water to form, as water is a collection of Oxygen and the universe’s most abundant element is Hydrogen. (3) If this new insight is soon proven true, life may have evolved from early traces of water.
Water has known properties which allow it to be versatile. Water has polarity, which is the phenomenon of

Surprisingly, the molecular formula for Formaldehyde is composed of a carbon molecule attached to a water molecule.
It is possible that our ancestors once held this belief themselves. Many faiths consider water sacred. In the Christian religion, for example Water is believed to be created on the first day, and founded upon the waters as described in the book of Genesis passage, “the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” (7) Similarly, Hindus revere the Ganges river. Hindus bathe in the water paying homage to ancestors and gods by letting the water move like silt through their hands. On the way home, they carry small quantities of river water with them for use in rituals. If a loved one passes away, then the ashes are brought to the Ganges River. The Ganges river is so fundamental to the Hindu Religion, that even Hindu skeptics agree on the river’s religious and symbolic significance. (8) Within many faiths, including Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, and Sikhism there exists an incorporation of immersion of water as a ritual. Perhaps this was meant not only as a spiritual cleansing, but also as a tribute to our origins, to help connect us to the organisms around us who also share the same evolutionary ancestor, water. In the perspective of Guy Cosolmagno, the current director of the Vatican Observatory, scripture was intended to guide the people and wasn’t necessarily concerned with our origins. Although, the wise knew about our origins, they knew the
Water. It expresses its’ power in the form of hurricanes and flash floods. It displays its gentleness, washing dirt off a child's scabbed knee. Water has been used to quench the thirst of many longing throats; and it has been the cause of death to those who unfavorably crossed its path. It possesses the power of total destruction, yet it holds the bases of all life. Generally, water has symbolized cleanliness and renewal. In the Bible, water was used in Baptism, cleansing the soul of original sin and offering a new life in the light of God. Water in itself is a natural purifier, washing the dirt from our bodies. Water is a symbol of
In 1975, two scientists by the name of Dr. William K. Hartmann and Dr. Donald R. Davis, came up with a groundbreaking new theory on how the moon was created. Their theory stated “At the time Earth formed 4.5 billion years ago, other smaller planetary bodies were also growing. One of these hit earth late in Earth 's growth process, blowing out rocky debris. A fraction of that debris went into orbit around the Earth and aggregated into the moon” (Hartmann & Herres 1). This theory is known as the Giant Impact Theory and is the accepted theory in the scientific community of how the moon was created. Even though this theory is accepted by most, there are still some people who don’t hold this theory to be true. I agree with Davis and Hartmann’s Giant Impact Theory that a great collision occurred and created the moon. The Giant Impact Theory is supported by the lack of iron on the moon, the moon rocks from the Apollo missions, and its acceptance in the scientific community.
When I sit and think about water, these are some sentiments that stream from me: water, an oasis of cool relief for my throat, when sand dunes and wandering Bedouin nomads migrate on the desert of my tongue; the last days of elementary school when the tease of a late spring swim hints at the summer to come, and the time spent slipping the bonds of my corporeal existence, floating in that ethereal substance; of the cool shade of broad leafed trees drawing water up to their verdant canopy to their aquatic reservoir, sharing a respite from the unforgiving heat of an afternoon sun. Water flows through most of my happiest
Water as an archetype of purification and protection has been present since the beginning of civilization. In the bible the idea of purification is present in the story of Noah’s ark. God tells Noah “I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made” (Genesis 5:32). God is angered by the violence and selfishness of humans and believes through floods he can purify the world and leave only the right. It is important to note the use of water as the choice of weapon. Water is a killer with no face or emotion. No love or hate, it is only there
Scripture says “… a wind from God swept over the face of the water”. Here we can see a wonderful link between the visible world and the spiritual world. It is the spirit of God that enables water to be the source of life. The Orthodox church celebrates the ceremony of the Great Blessings of water as it reminds them of the depth of life. As we have already noted “water is fundamental to the natural life”, it is also very important in our life as Christians, “where the sacrament of baptism marks the sacred source of the spiritual life”. The Great Blessings of water in the Orthodox Church are done in remembrance of the Baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan. Water, for then signifies life, rebirth, new life, life everlasting.
Water has been around since the dawn of time, and it is the source of much
Scientists have long sought to understand the origin of prebiotic compounds and its transition into self-replicating biological structures, both as an explanation for life’s emergence on earth and as an assessment of the abundance of life in the solar system and the galaxy. In 1952, Stanley L. Miller and Harold C. Urey performed experiments demonstrating that the basic foundation of life could be formed when abiotic molecules that existed on early Earth were jolted with appropriate amounts of energy. However, current models of the composition of early Earth’s atmosphere show that it would be difficult for amino acids to have formed unless they did so in the deep ocean. Martins et al. (2006) explores whether these compounds could have been formed by the impact shock of one celestial body slamming into another. Succeeding research has investigated whether amino acids formed in space can survive the journey to Earth and discovered, in space, some of the prebiotic compounds posited in Martins et al. Researchers theorized that prebiotic compounds could have built up over time in the Early Earth’s oceans and then been jolted together with bicarbonate by the impact of the falling meteor. The study was successful in producing amino acids under these conditions. No matter their source of origin on early Earth, amino acids alone cannot form a self
Scientists have suggested that the moon was created when a Mars size object collided with Earth 4.5 billion years ago. There was more than 40 percent of the moon made up of debris from the impacting body. The model fit an emerging view of how
Even though our technology is so advanced, for example, we can predict hundreds of years into the future what the moon will be like, we still are not exactly sure how the moon was created. One theory is that the moon was torn out of the Earth's side when the Earth was very young and still in the beginning stages of creation. A second hypothesis states that the Earth captured a small planet-the Moon- and pulled it into its orbit (Gallant 116). But if this theory were to be correct, the orbit
Despite the importance of our moon, us humans have long questioned how it evolved. For centuries, the moon has hid the secrets of its beginnings. There are many ideas regarding the origins of our super-sized moon, but they all began around the same time—roughly 4.6 billion years ago. Ultimately, this search for clues as to the origins of the Earth’s moon have led to two different theories. One idea is simply that the moon is wandering around in our solar system, and it captured it. According to this theory, the early moon passed a little too close to the Earth, and our planet’s immense gravity captured a hold of him. However, if the moon was really a “captured” planet, scientists expected that its constituents will be different from the Earth. In essence, if the moon came from another place in the solar system, scientists would expect it to be made of different material. In the 1970’s, Apollo astronauts collected samples of some of the moons’ rocks and brought them back for comparison. The results shocked the scientific world. What they found is that the composition of the moon was almost exactly the same as the composition of the crust of
One of the very interesting facts about the moon is that it is possibly believed to have been formed when Earth was. Scientists have done a lot of research and they believe that it has been here as long as Earth, but they are not completely sure just yet. Scientists also have another theory called the Nebular Hypothesis. It is believed that the solar systems were formed from nebulous material. Even though this theory is widely accepted there are still some scientists that are unsure about it so we are not for sure that this is how the solar system was created.
Intro: Humans have some seemingly instinctual reactions: the knee jerk reaction, the rooting reflex, and, with specific exceptions (survivors of natural disasters like floods or tsunamis), a feeling of calm or peace when near bodies of water. Popular culture uses this reaction to its advantage. Day in and day out the masses are bombarded with advertisements, driving down the road and there is a billboard for a “spa destination” and behind the woman with cucumbers over her eyelids is a beach with calming waves. This image is meant to elicit a reaction from the person driving by of “wow that does look relaxing.” This whole scene is used so much it is a cliché, but why? In this research paper I will attempt to answer the question: why is water, as opposed to other elements, associated so strongly with peace in our minds that we feel at peace in the presence of water? Water, in many major religions, is associated with some sort of healing or peace and I believe that these associations are so deeply ingrained in to our culture that we have a physiological reaction to being near water. While water is important to us physiologically I think that the religious associations with water are much stronger than just a physical need.
Some people claim that there is actually an atmosphere on the back side of the moon that we can't see. The moon is said to have a gravity much greater than what we are told and the backside is said to have lakes and vegetation. There are also some astronomers that have claimed to take photos of cloud formations of the moon which would also give credence to an atmosphere.
The history of water is indispensable when examining the history of humans. Humans could not exist without water, just as stable civilizations cannot exist without a stable
Today on the planet of Earth, there are a vast variety of organisms ranging from large mammals to minuscule bacterial cells. Every species here resides on a sustainable planet with a stable atmosphere, temperature, pressure, and much more. Nevertheless, these sundry organisms could simply not appear without an explanation; prominent events must have altered our planet to producing the first forms before the process of evolution occurred. However, what did commence life? Humans are currently speculating about various, abstract concepts for this controversy. Based on NOVA’s documentary centered around the origins of organisms called Origins: How Life Began, it reveals several ideas which revolutionized this planet billions of years ago.
