Stephen King, a famous American Author, once said, “Books and movies are like apples and oranges. They both are fruit, but taste completely different.” In other words, books and movies are relatively similar, but they are completely different at the same time. This is for sure the situation with the story A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. When comparing the movie and the novel, the movie is better because you gain insight into the lives of the Youngers. The details within the movie far exceed what is given in the book.
There are many differences in both the book and movie, unfortunately, the reader does not get insight on what the new house looks like. The viewer of the movie gets insight on what is going on outside of the apartment, …show more content…

This scene symbolizes that Ruth cannot afford another child. Her one son, Travis, does not even have his own bed; he sleeps on the couch.In addition, this scene shows how desperate Ruth is to get rid of that child. Even though she did not go through with her abortion, she had a thought to get rid of her child, especially when Walter rejected her. She says “Oh, let him go on out and drink himself to death, He makes me sick to my stomach!” Once she got to the doctors she had a bad feeling about getting an abortion, she shuts off the stove and walked out of there. Just the thoughts about getting an abortion shows that she cannot afford another baby. On the other hand, it also showed how mad and desperate she was. In the book, as for the reader, we cannot see this scene. Sadly, we cannot leave the apartment to see what is going on outside, which is unlike the book.
Filmmakers change the events of a book when making a movie to make it more action packed. With more action the viewer gets hooked on the movie and wants to continue watching it. On the other hand filmmakers add scenes to add to the thrill and create more detail for the viewer. That is absolutely the case for the directors of A Raisin in The Sun by Lorraine Hansberry.
