I didn’t do it. I swear! It was those little kids. You may be wondering what I did. Why I was in a freezing cold dungeon, or possibly feeling bad for me. Well, I’ll tell you the whole thing. I was making my stew, the kind that I let the chicken bones sit in. I had no idea that two tiny demons were hiking up the hill by my house. “Just add some salt.” I mumbled to myself. CRUNCH! I peeked my head around the corner of my graham cracker wall and saw two kids (I assume they're eight or nine). Both of them had blonde hair, but the boy’s was pink at the tips. They had the same pale, rosy cheeked, freckled face that was stuffed with… MY SUGAR WINDOWS?! “Hansel this is very good,” The little girl’s voice says, “it’s so sweet!” Hansel attempted to respond, “Yes, it is-” “Hello… uh, kids,” I interrupted, “What are you doing here?” At the same time, they arrogantly say, “What are you doing here, witch!?”
I’m not a witch; I definitely don’t look like one. I have long, light brown hair and green eyes. The overalls that I’m wearing are faded blue. “What?” I asked, “Where on Earth did that come from?” “Leave us alone!” Hansel said, as he took a bite of my sofa. “YOU'RE EATING MY COUCH!” Gretel gulped down a piece of my cotton candy carpet, “If you don't want people to eat your house, why did you make it out of candy?” “Please leave.” I tried to sound as calm as possible “ No.” They mumbled. I was shocked; my daughter doesn’t act like that,
The sun was high in the sky, gleaming down on us. The air was breezy, but not cold. The day was ordinary, or so it seemed. But what was out of place? That would be my brother, the only person who could possibly get himself into such a situation, with his impossible ability to almost die, but just miss the mark. As he sat there on the ground with his back to us, legs sprawled out in front of him, we didn’t even realize that there was anything wrong. Hold on a second. Let’s rewind this just a little.
There were monsters everywhere with three or four kids in their hands or pockets. A few kids were scurrying around on the ground but not managing to get away. One was back trying to get through the maze of the woods but was not managing. The darkness was fading and the monsters were getting ready to eat the kids for breakfast. The kids were worried about two things: they were going to get eaten, but even more they were going to get punished for being out of bed at one o’clock in the morning!
There I was at 6 years old in a corner store with my 5 year old partner in crime cousin Alex. We put our bubble gum on the counter and paid for it with the money we took out of my aunt’s purse while she was in the shower. The cashier had asked where our parent was and instantly we lied and told her they were outside waiting for us. As my cousin and I were leaving the store chomping on our bubble gum like the big bad kids we were something froze us in our tracks. It was our aunt screaming our names: “JORDAN???!!!” “ALEX!!??” That’s when we both looked at each other and started sprinting back to my aunt’s house. As we approached her driveway where she was standing that’s when we realized we weren’t as big and bad as we thought. Our facial expression no doubt looked like we were waiting for the scary part to happen in a movie. Our aunt frantically asking where we went and who bought us the bubble gum, I had let my cousin Alex do all the talking. Boy, were we in trouble after she found out we stole her money and walked to the corner store without an adult. We
I whined and went downstairs as my 10-year-old cousin, Caitlin, followed me. My big brother and sister were already to go, and were waiting for me. I went to gather all my belongings and went to put my old and worn out shoes on. I walked down the hallway, into the garage, where I picked up a foul smell of gasoline. I got my shoes and put them on, with my little cousin, Caitlin, still following me. On my way out, I picked up a piece of chocolate, and ate it while chugging down a cup of milk as well.
When the order of society determines everything, a decision to become greater, will lead one to neglect their true values. In the novel Great Expectations, Charles Dickens introduces the reader to Pip. Set during the Victorian era, Dickens brings forward all the influences, good and bad, of Pips life. Professor John Bowen states “Like many Victorians, Dickens himself was fascinated by the idea that you could make yourself anew” (Bowen 2). Dickens incorporates events of his own life to help the reader understand Pips society and childhood as he learns the true meaning of life when his unexpectedly changes.
Clemmie woke in a strange room. Where was she? The only noise came from a fire where logs burned and crackled in a grate. Framed photos lined the top of a mantle but they were too far away to see. She stared for a while into the flames and let her mind drift. Shapes formed in the flames. First a gargoyle, and then a girl’s face. The bright orange light hurt her eyes so she let them close. A few minutes later she jerked herself awake again. She felt hot. She kicked off the blankets only to find she was naked underneath. She blushed and covered herself before anyone came in the room.
Jason was strolling down the gloomy back street, its walls dark and menacing. He had trekked this path many times, but this time it got him on edge. He felt as if he was trapped by the massive buildings around him. The faint smell of dust covered him as he walked down this dusty and aged street. He emerged from the dark and gloomy street to be blinded by the intense light of the sun. Noise of the busy people bustling around him surrounded his ear. He turned to follow the main stream of people, his grey eyes scanning the crowds as he walked to try to find his friends. Spotting them, he barged his way through the crowds to get to them. A random person barged into him knocking his leg, then with searing pain, his leg flared. He searched his leg to find the source of pain and found his chip digging into him causing blood to pour out. Thinking to himself he wondered what these chips were even for. He looked up to see the massive buildings create what seemed to be walls surrounding him, leaning over him. Everyone around him seemed so cheerful, yet he couldn’t see how they could be in such as desolate place, they all seemed to be oblivious.
I started spinning out of control. There were distorted faces smearing my vision, all crowded around me in a huge circle, not allowing me to see any of my surroundings.
Ronnie kept receiving notes for about a week in her locker, each note got worse and worse. He began to write about how he would not only harm her, but everyone she loved. She began having nightmares and sometimes couldn’t even sleep.
Somewhere in the Hoenn region, a young man was waking up to the dawn of a new day. What a tme to be alive, Sinan thought caustically, as he rose from his bed sleepily. At 7 AM in the morning, light was beginning to filter through the wooden slats in soft beams. As the grogginess ebbed away, he remembered that all trainers had to be present in the lab for the Beginner's Ceremony by 8 AM. The way he heard words could be screwy sometimes, and he wasn't the best at writing, but reading and details he paid attention to extensively. So he rose from the bed and pulled on a faded pair of ragged jeans, before heading to the bathroom to wash up and making himself look presentable, his mind was swirling with thoughts. Can't believe I've finally saved up enough for this, he thought, a slow grin spreading across his broad cheekbones and deepening into dimples. I'm so f*ckin' ready, and he'd never felt more excited in his life. F*ck school, f*ck working-- Sinan wanted to go out and explore his heart out again. Get away from the quiet monotony that depressed him so.
The scrumptious smell of his requested Bagel-Bites filled his lungs as he entered their kitchen. The elated feeling in his stomach went away quickly as he saw his mother leaning on the counter, crying into her hands.
In the distance, an ominous building rose into the sky, blocking all sunlight. The sun had been beating down on us the whole trip, so the shade from the building felt nice. “Now that's more like it,” Hubert said. I gave a slight nod, and continued walking. Hubert put his hands behind his head, and walked a bit faster. Hubert was a tall, well rounded kid, with a great sense of humor. He was a kind guy, but something about him, gave me this odd feeling. We neared the building, becoming more and more anxious. A metal plate above the door became more visible spelling, Atai Products.
As I look out my window, all I see is a deep, dark void. Then my eyes adjust. Sparkling lights slowly appear out of the blank. I look to my left, and see a brown marble, the size of my fingernail. I look back inside the ship. Machines buzz, buttons click, the engine hums. The symphony of sounds slowly faded into faint white noise.
*Slam*. The door shuts. The room was silent, you could hear a pin drop. Leah left and I heard the car start up. We’ve never gotten in a fight like this. Tears started streaming down my face. The tears started streaming down my face harder and harder by the second. AGHHHHH I screamed. I slowly got up from the table the chair squeaking making the same sound it made when Leah left. WOOSH. I think that was the fastest I’ve EVER turned around. I saw a small shadow. Nobody else was home. but there was still a shadow? I walked around the corner…nothing. I ran upstairs and WOOSH again. I checked my bedroom and Leah’s bedroom. There was nothing in there.
It was a day like any other. The sun had barely started to creep over the horizon letting few rays escape to illuminate our home.
