Brian sent a few people to help me with my move one day after we returned from Brazil. I was packed and ready to move into his penthouse the following day. When I arrived at his place, with Beatrice in my arms, three of Brian’s attorneys and Mary greeted me. Mary rushed to my side with open arms and gave me a brief embrace. "She is beautiful, Isabel. Can I hold her?" Mary asked with a look of desperation. Not wanting Mary to feel excluded from her niece’s life, I relented and handed her Beatrice. After a brief hesitation, I gave Mary Beatrice and followed her up the stairs. "Let me show you Beatrice’s room." She said excitedly. "Is her room finished already?" She laughed. A nurse is taking a DNA sample from Beatrice as we speak." Furious, I stood up and headed for the door when I heard Brian yelled my name sternly. "ISABEL. We are not finish talking." Turning to face him, I asked offended, "How could you take blood samples from my daughter without asking me? You have crossed the line, Brian." "I don't have to ask for your permission. She is my daughter too. Besides, I did not have to tell you about the test, you know." Standing in front of his desk, I said, "I am a lawyer. I know my rights." He picked up his phone and dialed someone. "Ms. Loran and I are ready for you." He sat on his desk and a few minutes later, David Johnson and three other lawyers I met earlier, walked inside the room. Avoiding my gaze, David sat beside me, opened his briefcase and handed me stacks of document for me to sign. "You do realize I will not sign any of these papers until I review them and meet with an attorney." Making eye contact for the first time, he replied, "We understand. We want to make this as painless as possible for you Ms. Loran." I stood up staring at David with contend. "Am I Ms. Loran to you now?" He slowly lifted his face until our eyes met. "I am so sorry, Isabel." Turning my gaze toward Brian for a moment, I noticed the look of concern on his face. Without saying a word, I walked out of the library to get my child and leave.
