Radiation Victim
He had never traveled this far from the shelter before, five kilometers was his previous record and he had far surpassed that by now. Feeling a slight itch he tugged at the neck of his environmental suit. It ballooned out from his body about half a foot making it awkward to progress along the route. This far from the shelter, to James, the land appeared as flat as the polished metal flooring of his home. He had already begun to feel dread at the sheer distance between himself and the safety of his underground sanctuary. He looked down to the Heads-Up-Display of his helmet, observing the distance that he has already traveled. 17km the display read, a quarter of the way there.
It was only James’ 3rd expedition out of the

In the darkness of the room, the temperature was several dozen degrees lower than outside. Once he was deeper in the building he might even be able to take off his suit. The room was giant, almost as big as the entire bunker he called home. James had studied the plans of the building in his briefing so he was able to determine that he was in a room known as ‘Campus Library.’ From the information gathered by previous expeditions the, ‘Nuclear Lab’ would be in the basement of the adjacent building.
The Library was the tallest building in the area, and the only one still visible. Infrared scans had shown the possibility of a cavern system that ran between the now buried buildings. James made his way towards the back doors of the Library. They are his best shot at entering the cave system.
Pushing the doors open James found himself in a dark passageway, the caverns. Making his way through he wondered what had allowed these areas to remain open after the catastrophe. Could it be a hidden air current? Running water? Or something else entirely. Tapping twice on his helmet activated his torch, cutting away at the darkness. He progressed forward.
After several hours of scouring the caves, James came across his goal. Another concrete structure was embedded within the cavern wall. Examining the fossilized remains he found a door. IT was a struggle but eventually, he could push it in and enter the decrepit
I look at the wooden door opposite of me, I walked towards it and pulled the iron door handle and walked towards the dark abyss before me as I once again head out to challenge the
door from the rear building, a locked door where he had hoped to wangle his way in.
At the most remote end of the crypt there appeared another less spacious. Its walls had been lined with human remains, piled to the vault overhead, in the fashion of the great catacombs of Paris. Three sides of this interior crypt were still ornamented in this manner. From the fourth the bones had been thrown down, and lay promiscuously upon the earth, forming at one point a mound of some size. Within the wall thus exposed by the displacing of the bones, we perceived a still interior recess, in depth about four feet, in width three, in height six or seven. It seemed to have been constructed for no especial use within itself, but formed merely the interval between two of the colossal supports of the roof of the catacombs, and was backed by one of their circumscribing walls of solid
He approached the door and looked inside. A single dim light illuminated a long passageway.
They settled down and took off whatever gear they were carrying, had a meal and shared information about the cave, told a story to boost morale and went to sleep. Waking up to an alarm since it would be impossible to wake to the sun at such a depth underneath so much earth, the crew did some stretches, had another meal and put their gear back on. The sounds of preparation and movement the only sound they could hear in the cave's silence. It was then that Zuzia pointed out something they must have missed, in one of the walls with a sheet of crystal growing on it one could tell if looking close enough there was another cavern on the other side. Motioning for the others to come look it was decided Bill would blow a hole in the wall, moments later the explosion sounded and the cave shook. Luckily the cave held firm and nobody was injured, many others have died when pulling off such risky maneuvers, but are sometimes needed to truly explore future colonies. As suspected the newly created passage led to a huge cavern compared to their first, crystals where everywhere with even some grass, and oddly enough a small light coming off some of the crystal stalactites. Only one thought came to mind as the group
They frantically looked for somewhere to hide and came upon a cavern. Then, they ran into the cavern without hesitation. They waited in the dark, cold cavern for what seemed like hours but was only a few minutes. Prue pushed the two girls forward, and they began to walk out of the cavern because it was dark and they needed to get back home. They got right outside the opening, and Jane felt a breath on her neck. Then, everything went black.
After entering the canyon, I saw the light slowly fade as I further immersed myself into this endless waterway. My only company was the sound of the steady, rippling water, and the quiet voices of my friends nearby. I stretched my hand toward the dank, rough wall to get some assurance. As I did so, pebbles from the crumbling structure fell into the water. I felt the cracks in the sandstone that the water had sculpted after years of erosion. My feet slipped over the rocks on the bottom and I sank into the water. The water climbed to my shoulders and the light faded into pure darkness. I felt my heart rate intensify just before I turned a sharp corner. My eyes widened as I saw the first light since I had entered the cave. Three distinct rays of sun slipped through the rocks above and filled the canyon, illuminating the bright orange color of
There's no answers in the cave only mysteries so he steps in the only direction he can. Forward. The path seems endless for the lack of light, but he's out in minutes. It's dark outside. So dark the stars are choking the night sky. There's no moon though. No crickets chirping. No night birds. The universe looks so full of life and the earth so dead.
Another tunnel leading off into a new direction would have came as no good news. Thankfully it wasn't. Eyeing the gate, he knew it not to be a passage of any kind but that of a former place of security. The vault, or at least what little remained of it. Its cramped insides empty. Not even a rat would dare cross the threshold, he thought glumly, thinking of the threats that had been made before. The place where the bodies of the bank employees and wealthy clients were brought. The killers would have likely preferred to have dumped them inside the vault itself, but the door had been locked and the key – from what little of the local gossip he'd heard, as that was more trustworthy than the newspaper articles – could not be found on any member of staff. Instead the attackers piled up their bodies before the gate, at the very cramped spot he now
Upon taking a flashlight, brand new with full battery life, into the tunnel, I found the fuse box that controls the lights overhead. After opening it, I found all the fuses were in perfect condition and functional, once confirming this fact I proceeded to move the switch into an upwards position to test if power was still coming in. To my surprise, the light came on without hesitation, save for the few that blew out instantly. With the lights now on, I ventured farther into the tunnel to record its length and depth. At around one mile in, the smell of decay and old blood was becoming stronger and the walls were beginning to turn red from what I can confirm to be blood, purely that of a
He jumped onto the table and pulled down his bookcase. There was a secret hideout.
As if to add insult to injury, within Dornel Mines in the Southwestern Region, while digging as they have always done, the miners broke through to something. A chamber? A cave? No one knows for sure what it was. Only what came
Minutes later he reappeared in front of a small, dilapidated building. He walked around to the rear, through a door into the dark, empty interior.
older he found himself at the local library in Peck. It consisted of a single room behind the school house
On arriving at the abandoned house, Xavier and his friends were all excited to explore the insides of such an old building. As they circled the building, nothing resembled an entrance. The windows were boarded up and no doors existed. Archie called “Guys look, I reckon we can get inside through the hole in the roof, just up this ladder.”
