Gloria, Kenya, Wendee, and I had a chance to interview a full-time faculty, Shelley Takahashi, at Mount San Antonio Community College. She has been working at this community college for almost two full years teaching Industrial Design/Engineering. She shared that she is motivated to be on a college campus everyday as she interacts with students and see them grow in the field of industrial design. One interesting thing about her industrial design/engineering program is that it is a cohort model where students take the same classes throughout their time at the community college. She mentioned how rewarding it is to see students grow and mature together in the span of two years and see them get full-time positions or transfer to four year universities after they finish the program. She stated that her major roles and responsibilities as a faculty member is to teach classes, participate in the Advisory Committee meetings to assess ways to improve the program, reach out to local high schools to recruit students, and connect with different universities for articulation. She also shared some of the workshops that she put together for students as she invited counselors from her department to come to class to help students to write their resumes, practice interview skills, and share internship opportunities in the field of industrial design. What shocked me during the interview was when she told us that she was not too familiar with the roles of the student affairs; she
Seconds gave birth to minutes and minutes to hours, yet my concentration remained resolute. Despite the daunting nature of the task, I remained determined in what I had to achieve. For the first time applying some rudimentary scientific ideas I managed to build an intricate model of a toy car. “You shall grow up to become an Engineer one day,” my father exclaimed gazing at my laudable piece of creativity. I was only eleven and yet those prophetic words unknowingly chartered my future course for me.
During her time in the program, she headed an alternate entry mentor program to mentor master’s-level students.
On Wednesday, January 25 at 10: 30, I interviewed Stephanie Moret, a graduate student at Northern Arizona University. Ms. Moret is an English major, with her specific graduate program being Rhetoric, Writing and Digital Media. Her thesis focuses on how using social media could solve problems with understaffing, specifically in her hometown. Hopefully in a few months she will be able to put her thesis to the test back home, where she hopes to get a job with the city. She will help with their social media and marketing department, as well as overseeing their aquatics department. I met Ms. Moret my first semester at NAU in English 105, where she instructed me on how to write a wide variety of essays both individually and collaboratively. I chose to interview Ms. Moret because I am currently unaware as to what I want to do career wise, however, I know that I will be
It sounds cliché saying, “Hindsight is always 20/20”, but it’s how I describe the experience pursuing my degree in code welding at ACC. If I had started this process twenty years ago, my circumstances would be very different. Maybe, in retrospect, it just took me twenty years to muster up the courage and obtain the grit required to take on such an endeavor. I can remember as a young girl peeking around the corner of my grandfather’s garage to stare into the glow of the arc as he welded. I was quickly shooed away, told to go back to the house.
Marcy explained that she performs appreciative advising for students, she talks about opportunities and challenges, and help students with the next step.

Elizabeth and I spent a portion of the interview talking about her past and why she ended up at the University of Iowa. She told me how she was involved with orientation after her first-year due to staying on campus for a summer class. She talked about how she grew to love student affairs and kept moving up with orientation, eventually becoming an orientation leader and training the next group or orientation students. She told me about her interview and how it was between the University of Iowa and Penn State. One element

My interest in interior design commenced in middle school during a project on various careers. Since then, it has become an ever-developing passion. Interior design has manifested itself into my daily thoughts. I constantly look at my surroundings, wondering what I could do to change the room into a more practical space. This fuels my thirst for further knowledge. The only way to gain this knowledge is to get a degree and learn through practical application. My educational and professional career objectives are to obtain a bachelor of fine arts in interior design and to succeed as a commercial interior designer.
