When girls and boys become teenagers, their bodies start to develop all of these hormones, and that is when people start taking the route of having sex. Having sex can be a huge roller coaster, because not only are they giving themselves away to their partner, they are putting their own life at risk. “Almost 1,700 teen girls get pregnant every single day” (Teen Vogue). That is seventy girls every hour.

The social problem with teenage pregnancy is one to be aware of. Throughout the years we have seen the numbers all across the spectrum. It made me want to instantly know more about past years’ statistics as well as years to come and how these numbers will change in the coming future. If the rate of teen pregnancy dropped 10 percent in one year, will it continue to decrease? I am also curious to know why the numbers are dropping and if there is a specific reason for these numbers. So throughout this paper, I will explore the basics of teen pregnancy, including, why, and how it happens. Along side the basics, I will explore the specifics, including the rates for teen pregnancy, and if it is predicated these numbers will continue to decrease and the reason for the decrease in numbers. Then, the prevention and why it is important for teens to be informed of this social issue. As well as anything else I think I need to be fully informed on to help a client with a social issue like teen pregnancy.

There is a big problem that is going on in the United States and it is teen pregnancy. The United States have the highest teen birth rates than any other western industrialized nations. Teen pregnancy does not only affect the teen and the baby, it affects everyone around them including their family and the society around them. There are solutions to teen pregnancy that does not only include the teen and their family, it includes the community. Teens need to know the risks and consequences of teen pregnancy.

Many people in society do not realize the complications a teenage mother and her baby can endure. Preventing teenage pregnancy can be a challenge, but there are solutions to help reduce the causes of teenage pregnancy around the United States. Some causes of teenage pregnancy in society are, lack of safe sex education, teenage drinking, and peer pressure. If many more people were aware of the causes of teenage pregnancy, they would be able to help provide solutions to help reduce the problem. The solutions to teenage pregnancy could also help impact and reduce other societal ills, such as, poverty, crime rates, and high school dropout rates.

Teen pregnancy causes serious physical and emotional problems for adolescent mothers, therefore there should be steps taken to prevent such things from happening. I have a close friend who got pregnant at the age of fifteen. It was a mega crisis for her and her baby. It caused a heartbreaking feud between my friend and her parents, as well as her schooling, leading her to drop out of high school. The emotional stress she gained was harming her body. The baby’s father wanted nothing to do with the poor child or the mother. She had nothing figured out, and all her dreams and aspirations were changing in the blink of an eye. This situation was not only terrible for the mother, but it was a terrible situation for the baby to born into. She ended up keeping the baby, but sadly it was a rough circumstance for her. She ended up staying at another friend’s house to raise the baby, and it has taken her four years to finally be able to provide for her child by herself. No teenage girl or guy should have to go through something they are not ready for; they are still children. Therefore, as a society, we should educate teenagers on how to prevent teen pregnancy, because doing so would lead to a positive effect and help teens grow to become responsible adults.

Teenage pregnancy is a growing problem today even though statistically over the history it has improved the U.S. still has the highest teen pregnancy rate. These issues have a spiraling effect with the teenage parents or the mother. Financial, academic, and childcare for a teenage parent can be stressful and demanding more so with a teenager. Not only will the child of the teenager be affected but the parent and the community will have adverse effect.
