Teen pregnancy causes serious physical and emotional problems for adolescent mothers, therefore there should be steps taken to prevent such things from happening. I have a close friend who got pregnant at the age of fifteen. It was a mega crisis for her and her baby. It caused a heartbreaking feud between my friend and her parents, as well as her schooling, leading her to drop out of high school. The emotional stress she gained was harming her body. The baby’s father wanted nothing to do with the poor child or the mother. She had nothing figured out, and all her dreams and aspirations were changing in the blink of an eye. This situation was not only terrible for the mother, but it was a terrible situation for the baby to born into. She ended up keeping the baby, but sadly it was a rough circumstance for her. She ended up staying at another friend’s house to raise the baby, and it has taken her four years to finally be able to provide for her child by herself. No teenage girl or guy should have to go through something they are not ready for; they are still children. Therefore, as a society, we should educate teenagers on how to prevent teen pregnancy, because doing so would lead to a positive effect and help teens grow to become responsible adults.
Furthermore, there are a lot of negative effects of teenage pregnancy, so we should clarify these effects with them. One of the main effects is the emotional stress it puts on a young teenager. Teenage pregnancy puts an
Across America, many teen pregnancy are becoming popular. Many students have been educated on this topic, while other have not. When teens make the faulty decision, they do not know about the consequences that come with it. Consequences end up in having a child, and having a child is a lot of responsibility. Teens tend not to have much responsibility as important as taking care of a child.
Teen pregnancies can change their lives for the worse because teen parents are “less likely to complete high school, less likely to attend college, more likely to have large families, and more likely to be a single parent” (Kirby 144). When a teen becomes pregnant, it not only changes their life, but also the life of their unborn baby. Babies who are born with adolescents as parents have a higher probability to “have less supportive and stimulating home environments, lower cognitive development, worse educational outcomes, higher rates of behavior problems, higher rates of incarceration, and higher rate of adolescent childbearing themselves” (Kirby 144). Majority of adolescent are still growing and developing themselves, therefore it is more of a challenge to provide a baby with the not only an environment that sets them up for success, but also having the finical resource to support a child. This leaves tax payer to pick up the billion, costing them 9 billion dollars annually (Kirby). Having a baby as a teenage leaves themselves and their child susceptible to many harmful effects that can be prevented if they chose to abstain from sex and wait to have a child when there are finical and physically
Teenage pregnancy is one of many issues that the United States has. It is one issue that can be fixed easily and should be waited upon until teens are married and know what they are doing with their lives. This issue came about in the early in the 1950’s – 1960’s. Teen pregnancy is a teenage girl between the ages 13-19 (girls who haven’t reached adulthood) having unwanted or wanted babies. Janet Bode once stated in her book, “Emotions run everywhere, scared, sad, disappointment and preparation for what is about to happen” (Bode 51). If we do not act now, teen pregnancy will be out the roof. Teen pregnancy needs a stop put to it no matter what, teens are still children themselves and they are still learning how to take care of themselves:
In fact, a article called Teen Pregnancy In The U.S stated that in 2004, a total of 249,078 babies were born to women between the aged of 14-19 years. The rate of unwanted child birth is very high. Unplanned pregnancy can lead to poverty and joblessness. The majority of teen girls rather get an abortion then to tell their parents they are pregnant. Birth control should be available
"Teen pregnancy in the United States: In 2015, a total of 229,715 babies were born to women aged 15-19 years old, for a birth rate of 22.3 per 1,000 women in this age group. This is another record for U.S. teens and a drop of 8% from 2014. Although reasons for the declines are not totally clear, evidence suggests these declines are due to more teens abstaining from sexual activity, and more teens who are sexually active using birth control than in previous years. Still, the U.S. teen pregnancy rate is substantially higher than in other western industrialized nations, and racial/ethnic and geographic disparities in teen birth rates persist (cdc.gov)." As teenagers (in the United States), we are peer pressured or tempted to try new things. Some teens tend to try out drugs, and alcohol. However, some are having unprotected sex in which, is leads to having babies. This is called, teenage pregnancy. This has caused the United States to create records based off of the statistics and facts given from, researchers across the United States. In order to help prevent teenage pregnancy in the United States, teenagers must understand why, having a baby now isn’t such a smart move on their part.
Teen pregnancy has more risk than an adult having a baby. “They have a higher risk for pregnancy-related high blood pressure and its complications. Risks for the baby include premature birth and a low birth weight”(Teen Pregnancy). According to the article Teen Pregnancy teens
Teen pregnancy is a huge problem in the United States and it mostly as to due with the lack of sex education. In other countries sex education is not shyed away from and children have open discussions with their parents about the ins and out of sex, pregnancy, transmitted diseases and infections and even love. The country proclaims to be free and self-righteous yet many people hold on to conservative outlooks when it comes to having these important conversations with their children. Teen pregnancy is inevitable, especially with hormones kicking in and children having little to no knowledge of how to navigate them will always result in teen pregnancy. However there could be a dramatic fall in the rates if as a nation we decide to educate the children about the topic. Because whether America likes it or not the children of today will be the future doctors and caretakers, so caring for them now will be much more beneficial in the long

“Approximately one million teens get pregnant and give birth every year in the United States. Eighty percent of those births are to unmarried teens (ProQuest Staff)”. Teenage Pregnancy is when a mentally immature female adolescent under the age of nineteen is pregnant. Pregnant Teenagers would have to face many consequences and problems because they are physically and mentally unprepared to have babies. The teenagers’ futures would be limited because they would have to quit high school to care for their babies and it have been proven that the adolescents would mostly be poor when they become adults. They would also be prone to health problems like high blood pressure, premature birth, postpartum depression, STDs, etc. The teenagers would not be the only that would be affected, their babies would also be affected because it might be born premature and there is a high possibility that he or she would have a low birth rate. Most children that were born by teenagers do worse in school than other children born from adults. Teenage Pregnancy should be prevented because it does not have any positive affects to the people in the United States. It could be prevented by enforcing sex education and birth controls because it would make adolescents more aware about the consequences and the birth pills would stop unsafe sex and
Teen pregnancy has been a serious social issue for quite a while. Often, a teen pregnancy is detrimental for both the teen and the child involved. Both a teen mother and her child are more susceptible to complications during the pregnancy and birth than and adult mother and her child. Unfortunately, a teen mother and her infant are also less likely to pursue and receive healthcare to alleviate these health risks (Teen Pregnancy). Moreover, “teen pregnancy is often cited as a factor that perpetuates the cycle of poverty, since teen mothers are likely to be poor in the first place, and their children are likely to grow up to be poor” (Teen Pregnancy). While there is no argument that teens should be educated to prevent teen pregnancy, there is a debate on how it should be done. Currently, there are two forms of education focused on reducing teen pregnancies: abstinence-only education and comprehensive sex education with birth control. However, sex education and birth control are clearly the superior option, due to its effectiveness and the futility of abstinence-only education.
People in my family have experienced teen pregnancy before and luckily they, and the child, ended up being okay. My aunt was pregnant as a teen with two of my cousins, and she did not end up finishing high school. My dad ended up taking better care of my cousins then my aunt did. I chose this topic because I believe this is a very important topic, and that this problem needs to be minimized. Teen pregnancy affects the community around me because it could potentially happen to anyone if the necessary precautions are not acted upon. I do not want any girl, at my school or any other school, to be looked down on or degraded just because she messed up, and that little mess up cost her more than ever imaginable. Overall, I would like to provide an answer to this problem. If all sexually active teenagers took the necessary precautions and they were more aware of the consequences than the rate of teen pregnancies will decrease in years to come. Schools should provide more education on SexED and on the precautions they should be taking when it comes to sexual activity, and parents should not be afraid to talk to their children regarding their sexual relationships. Nonetheless, it is the teen’s responsibility to take action and prevent from teen pregnancy to happen to
The number of teen pregnancies keeps getting higher and higher as the years go by. According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, nearly 800,000 women under the age of 20 have gotten pregnant. Although it has declined, the rate of teen pregnancies in the United States is the highest of all the nations. It is degraded by society in most places and there is a stereotype that those who become pregnant always drop out of school and ruin their future and career goals. In some places people think it would be better for teen moms to not go back to school. Teen moms have the right to an education just like everybody else. Although it is hard for teens to keep getting an education and pursuing a career, it should still be an option and can be done with
Teen pregnancy is a very controversial social issue and the vast majority of Americans consider the outrageous rate of teen pregnancies a severe issue, certainly a problematic occurrence that is believed to be a moral decline in our country. Teenagers are physiologically capable of reproducing but not emotionally or financially prepared to be parents at such a tender age. Through various research studies a plethora of determinants has pin pointed teens unprecedented pregnancies. One cause of this problem is the apparent indication of social separation or disadvantage. Within this issue you would find poverty, single parent households, educational disadvantages on the parents behalf, a lack family/parental support, and unemployment. A child’s educational performance, inappropriate sexual acts, and inferior apprehensions about their futures play a vital role in teen pregnancies as well. Amongst the listed disadvantages the three that take precedent are lacks of family communication, sexual abuse, and poverty. Furthermore, teen mothers do not fit the ideal ideology of the normative scheduling of motherhood, therefore, ultimately resulting in negative consequences for them and society. What needs to be understood is, as to why the numbers of teens are becoming parents at such a vernal age.
Many teenagers will try to hide the pregnancy from their parents and teachers, in doing this they do not get the initial medical attention required during the first months of pregnancy. It is estimated that 33% of teenage pregnancy fail to receive necessary prenatal care. The lack of prenatal care leads to increased risk of anemia, miscarriage, and high blood pressure to the teenager. Many teenagers will hide their pregnancy because of fear of being reprimanded by their parents or teachers. Teenage pregnancy is also linked to immorality, and this can be a social stigma to the teenager. These effects make the teenage try to hide their pregnancy, which results in lack of proper medical attention. The children born to teenagers exhibit a low birth weight, and this is usually accompanied with other health complications at their tender age. These complications make the mortality rate for these children to be high.
Pregnancy is beautiful; however, for a teenager it can be a philosophical event with long term implications. Wall-Wieler stated that, “Teenage pregnancy is having at least one pregnancy between the ages of 14 and 19 (inclusive)” (4). Such a situation for teenagers comes with many obstacles. Adolescence would lose the opportunity to fully enjoy their teen years. This is a once in a lifetime experience, which would be cut short because of engaging in adult activities. There is also the possibility of frustration, depression and confusion because the situation might be too much to handle. In most cases, teen pregnancy will have a negative effect on the pregnant teen because it will force them to be fully committed to the concerns and needs of the child while neglecting their own.
