Everyone expects their sixteenth birthday to be this grand wonderful event with friends, family, and maybe some cake, but what most don’t expect is to make their eighteenth just as important. Yes, turning eighteen is just as significant as turning sixteen because it symbolizes your transformation from a teenager to an adult, but that is why we celebrate turning sixteen as heavily as we do. My eighteenth birthday truly was a grand event, one where even in my wildest imaginations I never pictured doing the things I did, it felt like something out of a Hollywood movie script. The celebration started with a concert at the Georgia Dome, on October 1st, leading all the way to its grand finale, a trip to New York City, on October 10th. It was two solid weeks of surprise after surprise with each surprise being bigger and better than the last, or at least in my opinion anyway. October 1st was seeing One Direction, my favorite band, live, the 2nd was surprise tickets to Cirque Du Soleil, the 3rd was a surprise party with friends and family, the 10th through the 12th was a trip to New York City, and lastly and later on in the day of the 12th was seeing Disney’s Frozen on ice. I don’t think I have ever been happier than when attending all five of these events. Seven o’clock pm, Wednesday October 1st, 2014, was the exact time my skipped a beat; it was the exact time the concert of my dreams started. One Direction, consisting of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles,
My birthday was celebrated with a wedding style cake and 15 candles marking my age. It was 15 different tiers with 5
Every year, since what feels like from the beginning of history, Georgia football fans proclaim to every person that pays attention to college football that “we are going to win the national championship this year, I promise.” We have all heard it! Now it may just be because I live in the south in SEC Country, but I have had enough hearing that repetitive phrase over and over again. Between the months of early March till late August, if you open your ears wide enough, you will be able to make out the sound of a Georgia fan promising to a friend that The Bulldogs are going to win it all this year. This Georgia football rant about winning the National Championship needs to stop because it is annoying and repetitive, and us students can relate to it because there are many Marist families that call themselves Georgia football fans.
December 17th, that is my birthday. Having switched school counties in middle school my birthdays always had to find the best of both worlds between two different groups of friends. Well, I had recently discovered the magic of social storytelling in games like Dungeons & Dragons. At this point three of my friends and I would meet up every two weeks for a late night session of fantasy tabletop role-playing. These nights were the high points of our social lives; it only made sense that I wanted ALL of my friends to experience this awesome game. So, I invited everyone asking them to come over around 6:00 p.m. and expect to be there until around midnight. I loaded up on snacks, came up with an adventure for us all to go through, and actually cleaned a little. Everything was set up for everyone to have fun, eat snacks, stay up late, and hopefully find a new hobby. Unfortunately that is not at all what happened.
Every year that One Direction toured in Chicago, my parents gifted me what I considered the equivalent of life, One Direction concert tickets. Always relatively close to the stage, never close enough. Christmas of 2014 rolled around, when tickets would be inevitably gifted to me. However, when they weren't, my world came crumbling down around me. Luckily for me, my parents bought them in January when the only seats left were floor seats. Winter ended... Zayn left the

They are also home to 19 renowned individuals who have been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame including standout football stars Tony Dorsett, Emmit Smith, and Troy Aikman. Established in 1960, the Cowboys have been a dominating force on the field and still continue to produce to this day. Forbes wrote, “The Cowboys franchise value reaches over 1.85 billion and are listed as the third most valued sports team in the world”, (Page 1). With all of this hype and world wide recognition the powerhouse from Dallas needs a venue just as
Coming of age birthdays exist throughout many cultures and have evolved in different ways depending on the region or religion they came from. Besides the traditional American “sweet 16”, there are other very popular traditions that are diversified by culture, religion, and by the day it takes place. Americans celebrate many of these different cultural birthdays because anyone who lives in the US has the right to practice any religion they see fit. Most birthdays have very similar features such as giving gifts to the man and, or woman of honor. There are also many differences in these traditions, some of which are considerably more family-based than others, such as the “Quinceanera”.

I would like to share a short anecdote about an amusing incident that happened to me. Two years ago, I was selected to officiate at my first Georgia State Cup, a large soccer tournament held over Memorial Day weekend with teams competing from all across the state. The four-day tournament was held at a university in Columbus, GA. For the referee crews, it means long days officiating many games with few breaks. Typically, evenings are relaxing, however, as all the referees stay in the same dorm together, sharing humorous stories and building camaraderie.

Ever heard of a relaxing time with your loved ones? This year, specifically June 17th, 2017, I went to Boise, ID for my Cousin's Thirteenth Birthday. We went to Roaring Springs (On June 18th) which was like the Dollarama version of Hurricane Harbor in Six Flags, where we celebrated his birthday. There were about fourteen or fifteen of us, me, my Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt's, Uncle's, Cousin's, and a few friends. We were all very anxious about what's to come and how we're going to handle an exclusive time with people we care for.
I finally turned sixteen years old. January 8, 2015, was the day that I had waited for my entire life. I had hoped to have a Gatsby party of some sort that crossed with a princess theme. I visualized myself in a sparkling champagne-colored dress, with the slightest hint of pink. To adorn my head would be a tiara, and on my body would be a sash naming me the birthday girl. At this grand party, with all of my friends and family there, I would receive the best present I could imagine— a Land Rover. Unfortunately, that day never came.
Soon after that my sister and dad awoke, it was time to celebrate! I had my favourite breakfast, scrumptious waffles, with vibrant berries. The sweet wafts of syrup scented heat made my mouth water. Since we were going to celebrate my birthday in the evening, me and my sister decide to play some games to pass the time. We played Monopoly and Jenga! Our Monopoly game felt like it lasted for ages because the game could go on forever. She ended up winning, she had five hotels! Then we played Jenga. It took us some time to build the tower because I kept knocking it over by
"Happy Birthday", my mom screamed out and scared me the morning of June 9. But it was surprising and nice of her since she wished me before anyone else. It was my eighteen birthday and it was my day. While looking out the big windows in my room, I thought to myself, I will do what satisfies me today, but wasn't quite sure what? I didn’t receive any calls from my friends, or other relatives. Nobody was home either besides my mom with whom I can’t make plans because she got her own work to do. It depressed me because it seemed like this was going to be one boring eighteen birthday.
“APPLES GET DOWN HERE LET’S GO!” Lollipop screamed from the ground, I quickly ran down the branches of my tree to meet her. Lollipop had led me to a place, but I didn't know where because she said it was a surprise for me, and by the way today… I turned 16! It’s cool, I know. I’m sort of exhausted from helping all these people though, but hopefully today will make up for it. The worst part of my day was that my own boyfriend forgot my birthday. A few hours later we were still
