Written Permission An ethical challenge related to record keeping when reporting to the legal system is obtaining written permission from a client. The ACA Code of Ethics, Standard B.6.f, states it is necessary to have written consent from a client when transferring records. Federal laws, state statutes, and agency policies require a written permission form from the client in order for third parties to have access to documents and records (Remley & Herlihy, 2014).
