I have taken advantage of a significant education opportunity, which happens to be Avid, and honors and AP courses. AVID had show me how to study, take notes and work hard for what i want. It has taken me on field trips to most cal states and UC’s that I now know where t apply, that i now that i do have the requirments to do so. AVID has show me that i can go to college and be success if i really work hard. I have been in AVID since 6th grade. All of my friends want to go to a 4- year university. People say that to be successful, you to hang out with successful people, that is what AVID has done for me. AVID is a college readiness class and because of AVID i know i’m ready for the next step in class with is college. AVID made me have
Being in AVID has not only helped me with my academic work but also provided useful information that I will use throughout my adulthood. Yes, AVID is known for teaching students how to stay organized and help students keep their grades up, but if I hadn't joined AVID I never would've learned what it takes to buy a house, own a car, how to do taxes, etc. I believe that it's crucial for students to learn how to stay organized not to mention, find methods that could help their college life easier.
College will be essential to all students at a certain point in our lives because we want to see people follow the path to success, we want the world to have a better place with better jobs and we want to avoid money being an obstacle for many to help out their family, I recommend the AVID program to fellow mates who aren’t taking AVID to take it because those students sitting down in a desk can one day become the most successful person for their own bright future and hard
Thinking back as a freshman in high school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life. Throughout my years in school I have discovered enjoyment in fusing metal together. I feel passionate about being able to do something that takes skill. I am going to attend a trade school so I can pursue a career in welding. I am finishing this last year in so I can finally be able to do something of worth. I didn’t have plans for college I was just going to go work where ever I could find a job. Since I have talked to one of my teachers I have change my decision. Mr. James taught at my school I didn’t really know what he did but he helped me figure out a goal and how to achieve it. He has inspired me to want more in life so I can be successful. My
It has taken a few years to earn a two-year degree, but that’s how it goes for people in my shoes. I have to work a full-time job to afford to live and keep myself in school. For this current chapter in my life, it has been the right path. It has allowed me to do things I never thought possible. I have been a member of the honors college for years, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government, and Psi Beta. Each one of these organizations have given me the tools needed to understand my dream. I have seen the scars that others carry inside themselves, I have seen the weight they put on their shoulders. I have been there to help guide them, to help teach them how to listen and understand not only themselves, but the dreams they seek.
Through my high school years, I have taken many challenging academic courses, extracurriculars, and community service. By taking AP classes through high school, I have become more prepared for challenging courses in high school and have become more responsible and independent for challenging work, from these Ap classes, I have become more prepared for Honors College. since sophomore year, I have taken the highest level course available. By being in a regular level course I did not feel as if I was being challenged enough and desired more. The high-level courses challenged me and pushed me further as the more challenging it gets the more prepared I would be for the future. As a highly motivated student, I like to be around other students who
After discovering AVID and what it offers, I realized that I wanted to be a part of the program the rest of high school. My fear that neither of my parents went to college nor did I have a true notion about it, were contributing catalysts that pushed me to enroll in AVID.
The most important experience that has positively impacted my academic performance is being in AVID for the past 5 years. AVID is an acronym that stands for advancement via individual determination, a college preparatory class that helps prepare you for college, get organized, and set goals. I have been enrolled in AVID since 8th grade learning how to become a better student, improving study skills and the way I communicate with the students and teachers around me.
In my conclusion I’ve come to realize that going to college is one of the best decisions you can make in your life and finishing college is an even grateful feeling, in my spare time I talk and advice my friends to go school and get a better education because it can help you in the long run, so I won’t be a dummy ill stay in school and now I’m following my own advice. So I’m proud of myself for getting another chance at it with Ashworth College and I’m willing to work hard to get what I
I would like to be in AVID because I think it would be a great experience. Going on tours to colleges, making new friends and trying new things like advancing my skills in subjects seem like possibilities that i would like to be a part of. This program will test me in many things but with the help from others I am sure I can succeed. My strengths personally, I am very determined and I will push myself until I can better myself. I do not let many things get to me because I realize that later most of the things now will not matter in the future. My strengths academically is that I get my work done although sometimes I wish I was better at getting it done sooner than I do it. I always study when needed for test or quizzes. I try my best to always
In the essay “Practical Experience Trumps Fancy Degrees” the author is explaining how people who earn their Bachelor’s degree could read the books and earn their diplomas, but cannot apply what they learned to building successful enterprises. He uses his own personal experience to facilitate his argument. He never went to college and started his own, successful rock record label where he started with just putting $800.00 into the company. He claims he learned through trial and error. He also states that “if you have a brand that you care about and loyal, hardworking employees coupled with a robust network of smart financial advisers, fellow entrepreneurs, and good legal back up, you will excel.” While this piece is a good argument for how
In my Middle School years, I went to E.L. Wright Middle school, that year, I have more responsibilities and more class and work to do. In my 7th and 8th grade year, I accomplished the A/B Honor Roll for all school year. In those years at high school ever since the speech, I tend myself to care about my grade and making the highest grade. In 7th grade I apply to the AVID Program with Mr. Quitter, he changes my work ethic. He introduced me to Cornell Notes, writing on the right side of the paper. He introduced me to college, and at that time, I now know that college was very expensive. Even though he’s short but he did a lot to the avid program a success. After he left in my 8th year, miss. Liandra Davis took over, but she is strict today. Having
Often times we come across people who believe college is a waste of time, money and energy. To get somewhere in life, people need to put in the time and effort. My goal is to become a clinical psychologist and help others. I always had the passion to help others since I would not get to where I am today if it wasn’t for the help I have received. When a person is achieving their dreams time, money and energy are not a burden. My experience can be used as proof that college is not a waste of time, money or energy. I have achieved a GPA of 3.88.When people are doing what makes them happy time, money and energy are put to a great use. What better way to spend time, money and energy than completing achievements
Growing up in a household of six, there is a lot of competition, especially when you are the middle child. My mother always says,"Focus on your education. Education is the one thing that no one can take away. Take control of your life." This is what I'm doing now, I'm taking control of the opportunities I am given. I am a highley eligable candidate because of my wonder for new knowledge and my drive for more. Being an agressive and competitive athlete, I am easily excited by challenging things that I face everyday, that's why I love the challenges that come with my school curriculum. It makes you think, and I'm a thinker. I already have one college that I really want to go to, but it is in Virgina and out of state tuition is a lot. I am planning on getting a ph.d in Data analytics at Virginia Polyetich institute of technology, also known as Virginia tech. I have a teacher that has a degree in engineering and she said that they're program is an excellent one, and that is what I am initially looking for. With my degree, I would like to help not change, but re-mold the world into something our ancestors never thought to even imagine.
When I entered senior year, I entered with a “get in- get out” mentality, enrolling in the minimum amount of classes with a majority of them having to do with business and I also joined FBLA. Through FBLA I was able to become “Assistant School Store Manager” and little did I know that it would actually be a great learning experience that I have been able to continue for most of this school year. In November,
For many, after graduating high school the next big step is college. I never asked myself why or if I even wanted to. Yet, since I was not yet ready to join the work force, and didn’t want to disappoint my parents, I simply followed the path that I was supposed to take. For a while I had no direction, but through the loss of my high school English teacher and my dream of making my family proud, I discovered that college was the place I wanted and needed to be.
