4) Compare and contrast induction, abduction, and deduction.
Induction is a form of reasoning where the premises offer convincing evidence, but not absolute for the truth of the conclusion. We trace our beliefs, which are based in our observations of the world and past experience, from a form of logic known as induction. For example, when we push the door, we assume that the door will close completely. We believe that because of our knowledge, but sometimes the door does not close. Hence, the conclusion of an induction is not 100% sure. According to Charles Sanders Peirce, the first person that introduced the concept of abduction, abduction is a type of non-deductive inference different than induction. Abduction, also known as “Inference to

Metaphysics is an extensive field that talks about the nature of existence and the reality. Although Metaphysics has Ontology (the study of things that exist in the world) as a subfield, they do not belong to the same field of study. On the other hand, Epistemology is the branch of philosophy that deals with the foundations of knowledge more than asking what is real. Epistemology employs diverse methods to formulate arguments that justify and support belief and knowledge claims. Aesthetic, also known as the study of beauty, deals with contemplating the beauty of the human being and everything that surrounds it. Another major branch of philosophy is Ethics, which deals with what is consider to be right and wrong. Ethics also evaluates morality on the basis of human actions and consequences. Additionally, Political philosophy focuses on the nature of law, foundations, and purpose of government. In other words, it analyzes social structures and the legal system in general from a philosophical perspective. At the end, all of this areas of philosophy will be very helpful in ours lives because we are living in a political society where ethical decisions are made by us
Contrary to popular belief, global slave trade was not demolished in the nineteenth century. Slavery, and the slavery industry is still prospering today; there may even be an increased number of people being affected by human trafficking today. Human trafficking usually involves women and children, who are affected in large part due to their vulnerability. Oftentimes, traffickers take advantage of their victim’s desperation, and trick them into crossing borders for a ‘job’, where they are then stripped of their identity and forced into slavery. Around 80% of the 35.8-million slaves are female, and up to 50% being under 181; the largest slave industry is the sex industry. Girls as young as 8 years old are kidnapped or sold off by their families
Many things frighten me on many different levels, but being kidnapped is on the top of the list. Being cautious all the time is my number one priority. When I walk in parking lots, I always carry my pepper spray with me and the knob turned ready for action. Also, I hold my taser in my other hand with it on and ready to tase. I carry these items around just in case someone were to attack me or potentially kidnap me. Every so often, I watch tv shows such as Dateline and Dr. Phil. These sometimes give a story of individuals being kidnapped, explaining every single detail, which scares me even more. If I ever were to get kidnapped, I would go into panic mode and be scared for a very long time. The first thing that would come to mind is that I
Philosophy is commonly divide to theoretical and practical.Theoretical philosophy is sometimes confused with analytic philosophy, but the second is a philosophical movement, embracing certain ideas and methods but dealing with all philosophical subject matters, while theoretical philosophy is a way of sorting philosophical questions into two different categories in the context of a curriculum. The topics included in theoretical philosophy are metaphysics/ontology, philosophy of language, epistemology, philosophy of mind, and logic.
The pursuit of truth: Epistemology provides understanding for the reader to gain insight to the way that humans process and react to truth. Epistemology is the pursuit of intellectual virtue. It wants to provide an evidentiary basis for belief, rather than one of just opinion. Entwistle then brings up another important topic which is Metaphysics. Metaphysics can be defined as the philosophical investigation of the nature, constitution and stature of reality. Philosophical anthropology attempts to validate assumptions made by theologians and psychologists about human nature and behavior (Entwistle, pp119).
In 1991, Jaycee Dugard was an ordinary, happy eleven-year-old girl living in Lake Tahoe, California. On day, as she was walking to school, a strange vehicle pulled up beside her. Sensing something was wrong, the child began to move away from the suspicious van, but before she could get away she felt a rush of electricity through her body; she was shot by a stun gun. Unable to resist, Jaycee was dragged into the car, covered with a blanket, and driven to her kidnapper’s hidden backyard where she would be held captive for eighteen years.
What started as a hostage situation in Sydney, Australia, it ended up as a tragedy with two hostages and a gunman dead 16 hours after the siege started. The hostage taker was later identified as Man Haron Monis who U.S Law enforcement said he acted alone. It all happened early in the morning at a café where 17 civilians were getting breakfast and Man Haron Monis decided to take them as a hostages. After 16 long hours of negotiation, the Australia Special Force and the law enforcement entered the building rescuing the hostages and killing the gunman.
Respondent, Humberto Alyarez-Machain, was a medical doctor that prolonged the life of a DEA agent, Enrique Camarena-Salazar, while other individuals tortured and interrogated him. The respondent was a citizen and resident of Mexico that the DEA forcibly kidnapped for his home and flew by private plane to Texas, where he was arrested for his involvement in the murder of Camerena. Once the Court learned of the DEA’s involvement, even though it was backed by the government, they concluded that it was in violation of the extradition treaty between the United States and Mexico, and since Mexico was protesting the forcible abduction, the only proper way to right the violation would be to repatriate him back to Mexico and dismiss the indictment against
A sting operation is when a person would do the crime without enticement and the police set up a “honey pot” to catch a person who would not normally be caught until after harm has been done.
(Gordon, 1995) The process of deductive theories you can provide absolute proof if your conclusion. An example of deductive theories is when an investigation team considers the boyfriend or spouse of the murder of the girlfriend or wife. With inductive theories you begin with the data and then build on the conclusion. (Gordon, 1995) The process of inductive theories determines what general conclusions can be derived from the data used from research but never approaches the truth.
The maximum penalty for kidnapping in Queensland is 7 years imprisonment. In the Criminal Code Act 1899 (Qld) defines kidnapping as “a person kidnaps another person if the person unlawfully and forcibly takes or detains the other person with the intent to gain anything from any person or to produce anything to be done or omitted to be done”. Kidnapping is a crime because it is taking a person against their will for an unlawful purpose. Criminological theories are used as the main explanations for criminal behaviour or criminality (White & Perrone 2010). By applying a criminological theory to kidnapping it gives an insight into why the offence is committed in the first place and how limitations of a criminological theory could ultimately stop the crime from occurring.
Inductive and deductive reasoning helped us gather the information and get a conclusion of how old the human fossils remains roughly were, found by the data we were able to collect on the expedition. Inductive reasoning is accumulation of specific observations that help lead to a conclusion or a theory that explains the facts we know about the object or subject to help predict future outcomes. Deductive reasoning is more logical, but not always correct. We jump to a conclusion with deductive reasoning
Throughout history, there have been numerous events that elicit psychiatric symptoms in those affected. Due to its recurrent nature and increasing emergence in society, human trafficking poses a major threat to the health of young women everywhere. Stressors such as this can be detrimental to the cognitive functioning of a person; therefore, recognizing indications of a mental disorder in its early stages can help during the process of diagnosis and treatment. Commonly observed physiological and psychological effects of abduction and trafficking include Stockholm syndrome, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety. By inducing this type of trauma, abductors and traffickers are permanently impairing victims’ abilities to function normally in their communities.
Yes, I believe that if a police officer is walking the streets acting as if they are a prostitute then this is definitely entrapment. Entrapment is explained as law enforcement officers or government agents that encourage a person to commit a crime when the potential criminal expresses a desire not to go ahead. I don't think that we should allow these operations because regardless if we get these people off the streets and into the system, it wont solve the problem. We should not allow long prison sentences for this. Bait cars to me are a different story. Just because a car is parked with the potential to steal it, if a person does then they should get in trouble. I find it fair. They are aware of the risks and if they decide to do so they should have to pay the price.
It was a sunny afternoon in Reallydrab Beach. “Wanna play hide-n-seek?” Elijah asked his five other friends. “Sure, but let's hide with partners!” “Good idea! I'll go with Jamal!” So Elijah and Jamal headed out to hide unaware that there is something extremely unfortunate about to happen. The boys hid behind a Giant rock that was very unstable. Jamal leaned on the bottom of it. It let out a immense “CREEEEEK!” The boys looked up. There was a very bright light. “Are we dead?” Elijah asked. Jamal shrugged. All of a sudden the light began to make Elijah rise up. Once Jamal couldn't see Elijah the light vanished. It was gone. “I have to stop sleeping all the time!” Jamal
Philosophy is the careful study if the states of, validity, existence, and conduct. It comes from the Greek word, philosophia, which translates into “the love of wisdom”. Philosophy encompasses a vast range of topics and ever person, place, thing, and idea has its roots embedded in it. For the purpose of this paper, I will be only covering the branches of epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics. These branches serve as the building blocks for studying and teaching philosophy. While examining these building blocks, I will argue why philosophy should be studied.
