It has a big effect on academic integrity because it is considered normal now by students. Cheating no longer has a bad look to it. It is a form of cheating that can easily be avoided. Plagiarism is a big problem because most people don’t know about it. According to research done by writing tutors in three different schools, most kids and students don’t quite understand plagiarism (Gabriel). Plagiarism is when you take someone else’s ideas and try to pass it as your own. In school, especially close to the end of marking period, my friends would copy and paste essays off the internet and turn them in just to pass. They would not understand what plagiarism was and the teacher wouldn’t help them understand. When you copy work off the internet and don’t cite or give credit that is plagiarism. If you do research in books and write down what work from the book and don’t give credit that is plagiarism. If you give credit to the original writer or author you can use their work and it is not plagiarism. Be honest about what work is yours and what work isn’t

The past year has been quite a journey and I have learned and matured greatly over this time. I understand how big of a mistake I made, and I have thought on numerous occasions of how I would keep something like this from happening again if I was once again a student at the University of Alabama. I gained much insight from this event as I now live my life in a different manner and hold myself to higher ethical standards. I plan to live out these standards both inside and outside of the classroom, as I believe academic integrity carries over to more than just school. Prior to completing the Academic Integrity Program, I thought academic integrity was as simple “not cheating.” I considered it a policy solely implemented to ensure that students learned the material. Another very important way to have integrity is to always be true, whether it’s to a friend, family member, teacher, or anyone in general. I would consider myself a very honest person. Therefore I have the trait of integrity and will consider myself to be a very truthful person in school and out of school. After having read the Academic Integrity policy and everything that it includes, I would have to state that my understanding of this policy is that it is a policy of pure honesty and trust. This policy, to my understanding, is exactly what it says it is. This policy is all about integrity. Integrity, by my definition, is doing what is right when nobody is watching. In other words, integrity is doing what is expected of you, even if/when you are by yourself. Integrity encompasses a large group of admirable traits, such as trustworthiness, honesty, and good morals. So, when applying integrity into school, the Academic Integrity policy comes into play.
Violating these academic integrity policy had a severe impact on my academic standings and am putting in all my efforts to improve it and have learned a lot from it. My only advice for my peers in this program is please cross-check your work, if in doubt do not hesitate to approach your professor’s and academic advisors they are here to help you to guide.
Academic Integrity is significant to the University because we came to school to not only learn education but to learn moral things for the future. Education is very important, but if we do not obtain moral concept we could hardly follow the right path when we graduate from school to be a crew of society; therefore, University should educate people who disobeyed the rule of Academic Integrity and correct their behavior.

Integrity is how somebody lives their life. In this life we live, we face choices every day that only we can answer. We dictate how we run our own lives, and they way we run them defines us. Integrity is doing the right thing versus the wrong thing. People, if nothing else, can always have their pride, their integrity. It is something that means a lot to some people and then nothing to others. The ones who value their integrity highly are the good people in this world, and the opposite is true for those who do not value their integrity.
