The expectation is that students will be honest and responsible as it pertains to academia. It defines the academic rigor in research and academic publishing and gives value to the institution (Spain & Robes, 2011). Prior to completing the Academic Integrity Program, I thought academic integrity was as simple “not cheating.” I considered it a policy solely implemented to ensure that students learned the material. This YouTube video has been recorded at the 2008 Annual Academic Integrity Conference; chosen participants were interviewed and asked about the meaning and importance of academic integrity. The video shows participants own beliefs about the topic. In my opinion all interviewees concur, with different degrees on their responses, that academic integrity is a set of ethical values that all individuals must comply with. Those set of values can be summarized as, trust, fairness, respect, honesty and responsibility.

Violating these academic integrity policy had a severe impact on my academic standings and am putting in all my efforts to improve it and have learned a lot from it. My only advice for my peers in this program is please cross-check your work, if in doubt do not hesitate to approach your professor’s and academic advisors they are here to help you to guide.

I believe that academic integrity is an imperative part of college. Without it, I believe there would be a great deal of stress and chaos on the facility and staff. The academic integrity that colleges hold students to help prepare them for careers. Being honest, not using others work, and being held up to certain standards prepares young adults for what is expected of them in every career field. I think it is of utmost importance to be a trustworthy person and following the academic integrity, the policy means that instructors and fellow students can rely upon and trust that you will hold up to those standards.
