It refers to the horizontal relationship that exist among the various sub-ethnic nationalities. It is the ability of a people to break their diverse ethnic walls and accommodate one another. Agi (1991) sees it as the process of creating unity and a sense of belonging among heterogeneous groups in a state, involving attempts at integrating the various groups in other to build a nation out of a state. In other words, it recognizes the right of other members of a state to share from a common history resources, values and other aspect of the state which buttressed their sense of belonging to one political community.
State building: Briefly, it’s the development of a more centralized rule. It is the ability of the political centre to penetrate the periphery in other to make its presence felt and to maximize political authority (Agi, 1999). While nation-building has to do with horizontal relationship, state building deals with vertical relationship. The process allows political authority and influence to flow from the top or central government down to the various regions while the regions accept and recognizes such authority.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK In an attempt to analyze and also understand the political set up of the first republic and the precipitating variables that eventually led to its collapse, the theory of prebendalism or prebendal politics will serve as a guide. The theory of prebendalism is said to be associated with the works of the German scholar and
The Federalist and the antifederalist are at battle in political ideology in 1789 for whom would envision the future of their new formal government. That vision would then lead to the contemporary unified form of government we have today. However, there must be a comparison and contrasting form of organization amongst their key points, to identify where they stand amongst the political party groups beliefs. In a sensible way, the role of government is envisioned by both the Federalist Party and Anti Federalist Party to determine whether or beliefs or assumptions would shape the contemporary government we have today.
Three ideals and traditions of the Roman Republic, lust for power, greed, and loyalty, each contributed to the collapse of the Republic. Desire for power played a major role in the collapse of the Republic because Caesar, the man who arguably began the Republic’s downfall, marched on Rome because he wanted power. The second ideal that led to the Republic’s collapse was greed and the power of money, for example bribing officials in Rome, Crassus’ shocking alliance with Caesar, and Pompey’s strategy to fight Caesar during the first civil war. The last ideal that aided the downfall of the Republic was loyalty, specifically citizens’ loyalty to political leaders or military generals, loyalty between generals and their veterans, and loyalty between political leaders.

26. Although the power of the national government increased during the early republic, this development often faced serious opposition. Compare the motives and effectiveness of those opposed to the growing power of the national government in TWO of the following.
In this theory, there are two components which he states, “People have gut-level intuitions about the ideology of different enclaves, and when the ideology if a community matches people’s personal ideology, people infer that they would fit into that community. Second, when people have the opportunity to do so, they will selectively migrate into enclaves that share their ideology” (Motyl, 2014). He then further breaks down the theory to the consequences that emerge from this division in three categories which stem from the idea of belonging through the self such as migration, well-being and cognitive style and Intergroup through cooperation, Social capital trust but also hostility dehumanization and violence (Motyl, 2014). Through his research and others which he states he believes that people decide to stay or create groups based on their own ideologies and migrate away from communities where they believe they are unwelcome and not belong in the community.
In this essay I will talk about how some governments and countries were stabilized and centralized.
concentrated national power at a cost of citizen empowerment and civic participation. Mr. Hart indicates Thomas Jefferson warned of federal consolidation and concentrated national power. The ward was " the appropriate forum for direct citizen engagement in public schools, human welfare and relief, and constabulary and judicial systems, among other functions" (pg. 8).
It is clear that the dynamics that characterized Rome’s society during the Republic were never easy. There was a constant push and pull of intentions and interests between Patricians and Plebeians. The Patricians always wanting to maintain economic and political supremacy while the Plebeians were in constant
The Republic is at a steep edge. Elections are happening like most haven’t seen before. Orators preach the political views of violence in the streets. Large amounts of foreign labor have the native work men fearful, and the wealthy sit simply draining it all for themselves. They are blind to the poor masses that plot and can only withstand so long before they snap and overthrow them. All this time the political leaders attempt desperately trying to stop the beast they made. However the political leaders have gotten so stale, so tied to the ideas of money they can’t think to do anything save what they are already doing. The year is 121 BCE and this is how Republics fall.
The author did an excellent job explaining the transition of democracy from the 1780’s until now. When the author was explaining about how democracy was viewed in the past, he used a lot of meaningful quotes that, I believe, helped explained some of the situations that we are witnessing today. While Engle’s evaluated the past opinions of democracy, there was a portion of the article where he stated, “democracy was feared because it existed in a state of exception beyond the law” (Engels, 134). Analyzing that quote made me think about the containment of democracy. If democracy was extended to the true will of the people, how far could it go without havoc? If this democracy exists in “the state of exception of the law,” would that be feasible
As a child develops into an adult there are critical developmental steps that are necessary for a complete and successful transition. The physical transition is the most obvious change, but underneath the thick skin and amongst the complex systems, exists another layer of transitions. Ideas, rationales, ideologies and beliefs all dwell within this layer of each being. It could be said that a nation can also fit this transitional framework. A nation grows in both size (wealth, population, power), and in ideological maturity (emancipation of slaves, civil rights, women’s rights…etc). This constant evolution of ideas and size is the foundation of a successful government. Without change and
Finally, the legal approach ensures that the entire nation is integrated or kept together by the constitutional law despite the decentralization of administrative authority, which enables different states and administrative units to impose different laws. In particular, it is possible for the autonomy of the various administrative units to impede national economic development and to lead to the violation of individual rights and standards of decency. In this regard, the

The catastrophes of the past are the foundation of the future, events that occurred in the past cause people to envision a “better life” of not only for themselves but a society as a whole. By envisioning a better future individual rose up, advocated ideas, and policies that they believed would help in advancing their countries. For the purpose of this course, let us discuss the uprising of the Russian government and the European Council; both as single entities have their own goals, but collectively they seek to benefit their country(‘s) and promote prosperity, but through history and the changes of power has that aim been reached? Or if it is already has reached it, will these forms of government fail?
Despite internal crisis and external threats, the Third Republic was able to survive in the period 1871-1914. Explain why.
