I found this week’s reading in AFY 100, Accuracy and Functionality: Care, Cleaning, and Storage of Firearms to be quite monotonous because throughout my adult life proper weapons care, and storage was hammered into my brain by the Marine Corps. I suppose though, that there’s nothing lost by sharpening up on the knowledge one already has… so here it goes.
Our required reading this week began with the Author stating that “Maintenance and care are necessary to keep a gun in a reliable and safe operating condition. A gun that is rusty and dirty will not look good, may not operate properly, and may actually be unsafe.” It’s hard for me to imaging someone just letting a firearm just rust away in a moist safe, or the corner of a closet. I’d be lying
Some gun advocates often suggest the more law abiding citizens that have guns the less crime there will be. Gun control advocates will argue the opposite, and that no guns are better. People will always have their opinions on guns and gun control but most gun owners people are very responsible. This includes the safety of taking care of guns and putting them safely away. Keeping firearms locked up, trigger-locked, stored separately from their ammunition, or some combination of the three, the gun advocates, as well as non-gun owners, believe less accidents would occur. It is possible that this could make guns if gun owners took these actions. Statistics show that every year thousands of guns are stolen each year and end up in criminal’s hands because of improper handling and storage of guns. People sometimes abuse their rights to the second and fourteenth amendment. Sometimes guns do end up in the hands of irresponsible people. Thousands of people are killed, injured because of careless people leaving guns
There should be guidelines set to insure the safety of our society before the gun is purchased. There should be a safety test given before the gun could be purchased. A test to show that the owners know how to properly use the gun. It is a requirement to take a test to show your ability before you get your drivers license, why not a before you buy a gun? There should also be a class taught teaching the proper storage of a gun. Teaching to keep the gun in a locked cabinet with the key in separate area. And the three to five day waiting period should remain.
On October 12, 2015, an article was posted about the statistics on how many children are killed from a gun being stored carelessly. In this article, it states that two children are killed a week from guns being stored in an improper setting (“Leave Your Gun Out, Go
Since I was a little girl, I remember hunting season; Dad and Katlyn, my sister, would come home to say they killed a deer. Even though I did not enjoy hunting, I still see how much they love to go; hunting great bonding time for them. My dad taught my sister and me how important gun safety is. He has shown us how to carry a gun properly, never to aim it at anyone, never put our finger on the trigger until ready to shoot, and always leave the safety button on until ready to shoot as well. In my house guns are always hidden or locked up in a safe, only Dad knows the combination, so no intruder can get to them. Guns are a very serious item. I was raised to understand guns are not something to joke around about; if they are in the hands
Some people like to shoot guns for hunting, some like to shoot them for recreation. Whatever the reason, when using guns, there are steps you need to take to be safe, whether shooting or storing them.
In particular, the continuance of education of properly handling and storing firearms safety concerns is very important. (claim 3)
I realize they must be handled with care and owning one brings much responsibility. On the contrary, firearms bring more security and joy than anything else. I am an avid gun enthusiast and love to hunt as well as plink. I know the joy firearms can bring to a young man or woman. Whether it is shooting their first duck or spending time with their father shooting soda cans off the fence. Firearms can illuminate a young man’s face more than anything else. They can create special bonds between people that cannot be replicated. Guns also bring security to many individuals as well as families. Guns overall play a huge role in many people’s lives, and who knows where we would be without
Other important procedures of handling firearm evidence include recording the serial number of the firearm and it matches the number on the photo, the make, the model, and caliber of the weapon. The bore of the gun should never be cleaned as well as the chamber and the cylinder before a firearm is submitted. Guns must be placed in strong cardboard or wooden boxes to avoid shifting in transit. A weapon should never be picked up by placing a pencil or other object at the end of the barrel. The best way to avoid contamination of evidence is by wearing gloves and a face
They store their gun out-of-reach as a safety bumper for curious hands, but this adds steps and time to ‘gun readiness’. It is not an ideal solution in the event of a home invasion, nor does it guarantee that accidents won’t happen.
Something you may not be aware of is that gun safe manufacturers have a habit of bragging about the large number of guns they can squeeze into their safes. Unfortunately, what may be advertised as high capacity
Proper gun maintenance is one of the most important aspects of being a good gun owner. Neglecting proper maintenance can cause a gun to become inaccurate, jam, misfire or possibly even cause clogs in the barrel which could end up in a sudden barrel explosion. In order to keep your guns in proper working order every time that you use them and to keep yourself and others safe, it's important to clean your guns after every use. Here are some tips on keeping your guns clean to ensure that they stay accurate and safe.
Also another thing that go along the lines of gun violence and gun control is practicing gun safety. Gun safety is the rules and recommendations that are intended to avoid accidental discharge, negligent discharge, or the consequences of firearm malfunctions. The purpose of gun safety is to eliminate or minimize the risks of unintentional death, injury or damage caused by improper possession, storage, or handling of firearms. There were 47,000 unintentional firearm deaths worldwide in 2013
Since the beginning of time for firearms they have been used in ways that they should not be. People try to blame firearms for actions or tragedy’s that take place in the world. Firearms are not to blame for actions that take; whoever is pulling the trigger to the firearm is to blame for the action that has taken place. America needs to take time to really reflect on the way a firearm can save a life just as quick as it could take a life. It would be great if there were a rule that anyone who owned a firearm would have to take a firearm safety course. Firearm safety is not practiced enough in America and many are unaware of how quick an accident could take place. There are times when things happen that shouldn’t because of careless mistakes with firearms. One example while carrying a firearm in any circumstance would be “firearms should be unloaded when not in use” (firearm). The reasoning behind this is to simply keep everyone including yourself safe while carrying a firearm.
Gun owners in Washington State, along with other states can do a better job of securing their weapons at home. There’s a lot of deaths or suicides caused by guns that are not locked up or unloaded in the household. “About 82 percent of the youth who commit suicide while using a firearm, is a fact to promote the safe storage needed. King County is working with firearm dealers to give a discount to people who mention “public health’ or the “LOK-IT-UP” program when they purchase a firearm-storage device” (Settle times editorial board, 2018)
The quality of the analysis was checked by “pstest” to understand and manage the mean bias to not more than 5 and balancing test before and after matching was conducted. Based on selected propensity algorithms treated and non-treated household were insignificance by all covariates after matching (Appendix 2 & 12).
