The Age of Exploration brought countless changes to the world. The New World had been created and developed through the effects. Due to the spread of Christianity, the fight of first discovery and the ultimate search for goods, the time period thrived for many years. Although the Age of Exploration produced several positive influences, it also carried numerous damaging outcomes. The ideas of God, Glory and Gold were the key encouragements on the Age of Exploration. The Age of Exploration was a time of the spread of Christian faith. Europeans took missionary trips to spread the beliefs of God. The expansion of Christianity caused multiple other religions to convert to European beliefs. The competition to discover land first was present during the Age of Exploration. There was a search for riches among all of the countries on unclaimed lands. The strive for “Glory” introduced the idea of merchantism to the New World. The search for material gain was also a cause of the Age of Exploration. The expansion of illnesses during the Age of Exploration greatly impacted the world’s population. Due to the new needs of labor, it resulted in the increase of slavery and African American slave trade. During the age of exploration many interesting events occurred. Some were good and quite a couple was bad. This was because of one motive known as God, Gold, and Glory. It was because of this motive why colonization had terrible effects also. In the Age of Exploration, the three G’s turned out to be a double edged sword that greatly effected this era.
During the Renaissance many people were curious about the world, and had a desire to trade. This led to the Age of Exploration, during this time many nations grew more powerful and influenced the world. Europeans started to explore the world for gold. However while on this journey many European explorers did things that were great. Such as taken away natives land and rights, killing and mistreating natives, and lastly bringing a disease that killed thousands. So you then start to ask should these people be remembered today even with all the bad things they’ve done and brought to the world. Still there was slave trade in other countries "like Egypt, Rome, China, Persia, the Aztecs, and many other countries" (Slave Trade and It's Impact 417) long before the Era of Exploration. When the Europeans started using slave trade it became a giant profitable business, changing it forever, and originally coastal African leaders agreed to this slave trade in exchange for weapons, and other goods. But this agreement didn't last very large because African leaders soon tried to stop the trade, but their efforts failed and the slave trade grew larger and larger. These slaves were transported on the middle passage or the second leg of the triangle trade. This had a huge impact on many of the people from Africa that would forever impact them and there family for generations. With the colonization, their lives were in danger. Once the explorers arrived, they needed to figure out how they would survive because there supplies were soon going to run out. But, there was an economic problem that came with slaves; the importation of cheap manufactured goods from Europe would outsell the local cottages and industries that the people had created, and forcing them into poverty. The Age of Exploration was a time period that has had significant influences in the modern world. It was the moment in which Europe was brought out of the Dark Ages and into an era of discovery. The risks taken within the 15th and 18th century allowed both positive and negative outcomes to be introduced to the European Exploration. There were many motives for this era, and many outcomes came about. However, they were both negative and positive. To summarize the motives of this age, a simple combination can be stated. The main purposes of the Age of Exploration was God, Gold, and Glory.
There were many reasons that prompted European exploration. These reasons include the spreading of Christianity, gain wealth/land, and an advance in technology. The Christian population beloved that the main goal in life should be to spread Christianity in every way possible, and finding new land and new people could increase the amount of Christians. As they spread their religion they also wanted to become rich. Lastly, as technology was advancing they were able to accomplish more. These three things were known as "God, glory, and gold".
The Age of Exploration was a time when many explorers went out to discover and seek new findings. Since Muslims and Italians were the only ones controlling trade, the rest of the Europeans wanted to find new ways and new places to trade with. The world became slightly richer, yet for some the world became a gruesome place, especially the natives of central america, whom were exposed to non native diseases, and Africans that were taken from their native home and were made slaves to do labor in the Americas. Europeans would journey to the Americas, looking for a new life in a new world, with riches. The World was on the brink of huge change and increase of complexity, but the only thing keeping it from the this big push was a month worth of sailing on an ocean, “It still took a month to cross the Atlantic by ship. It still took a year for people, goods, and information to circulate the globe. ”(Source 4).
The age of discovery was filled with many new discoveries and ideas that helped shape our world now. Many explorers were apart of this age of time that helped make new changes, like re-establishing trade with the East or breaking monopolies.
