Ageism also known as age discrimination has an enormous part in our society today. Many people have experienced discrimination against their age daily, even in schools and workplaces. Why is this important? Ageism can relate to everyone in the society; managers, employees, teachers, police officers, principles, etc. For example in a workplace, there are questions you are not allowed to ask during an interview, to your employees and coworkers, etc. Managers can get in trouble for saying stuff like “you can’t do this because your too young”, forcing someone to retire due to their age, not interviewing someone due to their age, As an employer, you cannot be denied a job, training or promotion, or forced to retire, because of your age, etc.
If you are experiencing age discrimination against you, you can make a human rights complaint by contacting the human rights tribunal of Ontario. The Ontario Human Rights Code protects people from discrimination under the ground of age. The Code defines age as 18 years or older However, persons age 16 or older are protected from discrimination in housing if they are not living with their parents also you cannot refuse to rent to younger people because you assume they won't be good tenants.

Buying things can also be hard for younger people, buying a house, a car, electronics, etc. People will judge you thinking that you will not able to afford the item. There are very few opportunities for younger generations due to the fact that people are retiring later since our life expectancy is later, older generations might need to find a job after they retire because they might need to pay for their kids if they got fired or can't find a job due to age discrimination or paying back their kids education funds, which means that the younger generation will have a hard time supporting the baby
