One of the reasons that cause air pollution in the United States is combustion of fossil fuels. United states known as the developed countries. For big countries, there will have many moving vehicles. Burning oil from fossil fuels such as diesel is burnt in moving vehicles cause air pollution. When the oil is burned, dangerous gases released into air and the environment. From that, if the people overuse of fossil fuel, its will kill the environment as dangerous gases are polluting the environment and harm the habitat. Because of our selfishness, other must face hardship cause of air pollution that is produced from the environment also from the human. From the source that was found, according to Rakesh from Conserve Energy Future (CEF), dangerous
The causes of air pollution are burning fossils fuels releases gases and chemicals into the air. Climate changes also increases the production of allergenic air pollutants including mold. ‘There are examples of air pollution such as coal, oil, natural gas, and gasoline to produce electricity and power our vehicles.’ “Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a good indicator of how much fossil fuel is burned and how much of other pollutants are emitted as a result.”(How Do We Cause Air Pollution)
In the 1940's California was supporting a population of seven million people and contained 2.8 million registered vehicles. Within the next twenty years the population more than doubled to reach 16 million while the number of registered vehicles all but tripled increasing to eight million. This has been a common trend in California's documented history from the early twentieth century to today. There have been many historical and environmental factors that have assisted in contributing to increases such as these in California. One such factor was World War II, from the late 1930's to 1945, which triggered a boom in the population of California and the beginning of the urban sprawl. Increases in
Since human’s activity, pollution becomes a big problem in the world. There are a lot of part of pollutions include water pollution, light pollution and air pollution. Air pollution is happened in our life. The United States is also a victim of air pollution. In 1943, Los Angeles photochemical smog event occurred. The whole of Los Angeles was covered with smoke. There are about 400 people died and a lot of fruits in orchards began to wither.
With the supply of fossil fuels steadily declining, gas and oil is becoming harder to harvest which means it is getting more expensive. Fossil fuels take millions of years to be naturally produced, yet each person burns gallons of gas per day (Maehlum par. 5). Though fossil fuels are produced naturally, when burned they release nitrogen oxides gases into the atmosphere, which contributes to the formation of smog and acid rain. According to the EPA, major sources of these nitrogen oxide emissions come from cars and trucks, coal-fire powered plants, large industrial operations, and ships and airplanes (EPA par 3). By reducing the number of gas powered cars on the road, we can reduce the amount of harmful chemicals we are releasing into our atmosphere.
A controversy issue in the United States is whether or not we should be involved in the controlling international pollution. Pollution is problem world-wide. Many would like to be involved in pollution while others would not. I believe that the United States should not be involved in the controlling of international pollution.
1) Are you aware of the amount of waste you create each day? I do not believe anyone is completely aware of the amount of waste they generate on a daily basis. It is such a natural action – throw something in the trash – that it is automatic and done without much or any consideration as to where it goes, where it came from, or where will it ultimately go or become. I do recycle and compost when possible, but that too becomes a process that sometime appears moot because products are being made from materials that do not qualify or require special centers for recycling.1 We have become a “use it and throw it away” society.
The large majority of todays cars and trucks travel by using internal combustion engines that burn fossil fuels and gasoline. A variety of emissions are polluted into the atmosphere when burning gasoline to power cars and trucks. Emissions that are released directly from cars and trucks into the atmosphere are the primary cause of car pollution but it still causes pollution the air during the manufacturing and refueling processes. Primary pollution from motor vehicles is pollution that is emitted directly into the atmosphere where as secondary pollution is caused from chemical reactions between pollutants after they have been released into the air at least 92 million Americans still live in areas with chronic smog problems. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency predicts that by 2010, even with pollution controls more than 93 million people will live in areas that violate health standards for ozone (urban smog) and more than 55 million Americans will suffer from hazardous levels of fine particle pollution, which is especially dangerous to children and senior citizens.
Most times, when Californians drive through the freeways around Downtown Los Angeles, instead of seeing the clear blue sky, dark gray masses of CO2 emissions fill the air. From the time of the Industrial Revolution till now, the levels of pollution in the world, including California has been dramatically rising. Air pollution results in alarming consequences to both the environment and the people. Professors Bradley Bereitschaft and Keith Debbage explored relationships of air pollution and its effects in U.S Metropolitan areas. Their studies have shown that emissions of air pollutants, such as CO2, affect human health and are responsible for over one million premature deaths. They also talk about greenhouse gasses, such as CO2 that are a major
The United States is the #1 trash-producing country in the world at 1,609 pounds per person per year.
Madison, the south-central, mid-sized city in Wisconsin is defined by its five major lakes, a beautiful rural side and a lively metropolitan area of about 578,000 (Madison Population 2016). Madison spills into surrounding suburbs driving locals to express that they are from the “Madison Area.” Historically speaking, Madison was home to the Winnebago Native American Tribe (Madison: History n.d.). The surrounding lakes made the area a convenient place to settle. Around 1829, a man named James Doty bought surrounding land to pave a grid of streets. He was to make Madison, named after the fourth president, the new capital city (Time, B.T n.d.).
Air pollution is an issue that effects us all unfortunately, but in some cases it affects some more than others. In my case I live around downtown Springfield were it is considered the urban area, which is a culturally mixed neighborhood. Urban areas are affected by air pollution the most, and in my opinion it's because they are always the high populated areas. In the state of Massachusetts there are several programs that contribute to solving the issue of air pollution.
In the United States electric power emit about 2.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide each year roughly Forty- percent of the nation's total emission. The EPA has both the authority to reduce pollution from these plants under the clean air act the nation’s bedrock air pollution law adopted in 1970. The EPA proposed carbon pollution standards for existing power plants in June 2014. NRDC has proposed an effective affordable and flexible approach to cut carbon pollution from existing power plants under the clean air act that taps into ingenuity of the states and the private sector. Ozone smog when pollution from vehicles, factories, and other sources reacts with sunlight and heat. Increasing speed this process and result in more smog. Added to the
Air pollution is one the effect of the environment problem that human is faced now a day. An air pollutant is the mixture of solid or fine particle and gases that are suspended in the air usually caused by human activities, and their inhaling is harmful to human body [1]. Recently in December 2015, the air quality in the city of Beijing in China was unhealthy that forced schools to close, outdoor constructions to halt and to reduce car traffics [2]. In New York City is not also immune to this scourge. According to New York Environmental Protection, air pollution in New York City is significantly environmental threat despite many improvements [3]. This research project investigates the indoor air quality at Hostos Community College. The objective
The purpose of this paper is to find the correlation between air pollution and society’s responsibility to promote a cleaner safer environment for its citizens. My research question is: How can society help keep the air we breathe safe? There are so many chemicals and other vapors that are emitted into the air that it becomes a chore for people with respiratory problems, i.e., asthma, to breathe without some assistance and in some cases of older individuals, carry an oxygen tank daily. Can some of these health issues be prevented if we managed our air pollution better?
Almaty is in the list of ten most polluted cities in the world. Even Moscow is on the 14th place, which means that the problem is not in the cars number only. (KazakhstanToday, n.d). Moreover, some of the Kazakhstani experts claim that air pollution in Almaty will soon achieve the critical point (Kapital, 2015). The problem is that both the government and citizens understand the current problem, but there is still no change. Air pollution causes environmental changes, increasing in average temperature and also a lot of illnesses and diseases such as allergies and lungs problems. The problem has to be solved because Almaty is the financial center of Kazakhstan and a lot of people including students, workers, foreign tourists come every year. Almaty does not have a lot of factories, so the main cause of air pollution is transport. Due to increasing of air pollution from transport in Almaty, which causes cardiovascular mortality of 446 people per 100,000 in Almaty (Kenessariyev et al,2013) , the problem has to be solved by building more metro stations, prohibiting old cars coming to the city and promoting using pollution-free clean natural gas.
