Throughout centuries the patterns of alcohol use have remained consistent around the world. For the most part alcohol has been used as a beneficial resource. Within religion there is an emphasis that alcohol plays an important role in festivities and rituals within a religion as well as with health benefits. These two ideas continue to influence the patterns related to alcohol use. For starters, amongst the Catholics there is an emphasis on moderate drinking, because it is believed that alcohol is a gift from God, but that excessive drinking that results in intoxication is considered to be a sin (Hanson, p. 7). As well as, some churches use wine during rituals such as during the Holy Communion, and these traditions continue today. Secondly, the Hebrews described alcohol as being full of nourishment, an important aspect to festivities, and as a source of medicine (Hanson, p. 4). Lastly, during the ancient time period alcohol played a role in the religious life of individuals who live in China. Individuals believed that moderate use of alcohol was a gift from heaven. Not only was alcohol an important aspect to religion, but also it was used as a source of inspiration, expressed hospitability, and was used as an antidote to feeling fatigued (Hanson, p. 4).

Alcohol, it has been around for ten thousand years. Some great things have come from it, but in some situations it has ruined people’s lives. Some may ask how something can have such opposite endings. Well the answer is that people don’t know moderation while consuming alcohol. Alcohol can easily be misinterpreted as an un-harmful substance. In this essay I will educate readers that in moderation and in church traditions it is not harmful or being abused. I will be discussing the importance of where the selfishness and rule breaking comes from when one is intoxicated while driving. I say selfish because that is what it is, a human being lacking consideration for

Alcohol has acted as a social lubricant since its inception. Altering or alleviating the boundaries drawn by human nature or social constructs. In many cases, it has altered the course of history. In some parts of history fermented grape juice was introduced into common practice, due to the absence of clean water. Although it did not have the pungency of modern wine, it acted as the guide as people drank more. Such cases where seen by Christians with Sodom and Gomora. Pagan cities riddled with moral corruption, lubricated by the vary drink later outlawed in 20th century America. Although the destruction of the cities are wildly exaggerated it lead to uncontrolled social deviance. Human nature is destructive and requires a delicate hand when tempering the fundamental nature of desire. Such tempering can be seen in the Muslim religion where alcohol is outlawed, but still present due to
Drinking was very common among the early European colonist. Alcohol served different purpose in their everyday lives. Alcohol used as a substitute of drinking water because water was contaminated also alcohol used for medical purposes to overcome fatigue, soothing indigestion and pain. People started to drink more when the hard liquors became more available and local brewing had increased. Between 1800 and 1830, the annual per capita alcohol consumption in the United States was estimated to be between 5 and 9.5 gallons, compared with 2.6 in 1978.[American journal ] Furthermore, the kind of alcohol use that was usually reported was far more socially harmful than is usual today. When somebody wanted to share her story, she introduced herself saying her names and admitting being alcoholic. I think it would be relatively easier to work with a person who admits to have a problem (some of them called a disease ) than working with one who doesn't want to admit it.
The influence of alcohol has been everywhere in human history and is undoubtedly the most dominant psychoactive substance in every human culture. It was critical for developing countries where alcohol was key to trade. (Awkward) Alcohol was one of the ‘main three’ psychoactive products (with tobacco and caffeine) which helped drive the globalization of trade from the 17th century. Today, the consumption of alcohol has become more omnipresent because of how diversified drinks have become. Drinking is an increasingly globalized cultural practice because alcohol is a substance with a global history. Producers of these alcoholic beverages tend to be large corporations reliant on innovative marketing techniques. The global alcohol industry is also trying to expand into developing countries while continuing to collect profits in the saturated markets of North America and Europe.
Humans have been consuming alcohol since the beginning of civilization; alcohol is just a part of civilized living. To some, it is a coping mechanism for dealing with the stresses of life, whether it is war, business, or heartaches. It can also be a substance to share among friends and family. Even though drinking is socially acceptable, it can be poisonous to the mind and body of a human being when it is excessively consumed. *Habitually over-consuming alcohol can be debilitating not only for the drinker, but also for those surrounding the drinker.*
Health outcomes and socioeconomic consequences are determined not only by the amount of alcohol consumed, but also by the pattern of consumption and the quality of alcohol consumed. These three determinants are again shaped by – and shape – the wider social determinants related to socioeconomic context and position, exposure and vulnerability. The level of abstention, reflecting such issues as gender and poverty levels, is an important mediating factor that often serves a protective role. Alcohol consumption rates are markedly lower in poorer than in wealthier societies. However, withinsociety differences in alcohol-related health outcomes by socioeconomic status tend to be more pronounced than differences in alcohol consumption.
This thesis explores old ideas regarding the valuable properties of intoxicating drinks, as presented in Greco-Roman sources from the first to third centuries AD. In doing so, it responds to Mary Douglas' Constructive Drinking (1987), which emphasized that contrary to anthropological findings, many societies' authorities tend to focus upon, and overemphasize, the negative aspects of alcohol consumption. This pattern is particularly prevalent in modern Western scholarship. The same trend can detect within both Greco-Roman society and classical learning. Although many Greeks and Romans are undoubtedly consumed quantities of wine, on a regular basis, in a manner which was widely considered 'moderate,' the literary evidence from this period tends
