Phone technology has been upgrading and updating for years now, and that’s obvious, and that means that this generation is filled with it. While it’s upgrading it’s also becoming more in demand than before. The world is starting taking it to another level, so there are also the downsides of these phones, the downsides that make this technology distracting, making people to beleive they shouldn’t be alowed in class. While it is true, phones can be a distraction sometimes, if the students are monitered the right way and know exactly what they are doing, phones just might be able to work out. With proper use, phones should be alowed in school.

With phones students can take tests, quizzes, and even get research for projects or presentations. Shawndre Fordham says "that technology is what the kids grew up with, that it's what they know and understand which makes it easier for them to learn." When students learn in a way that they understand, it makes it less complicated and it may even improve their test scores. There are many advantages for students to carry and use cell phones while in school. One of these benefits is keeping up with technology and providing educational benefits. Students can learn how to use tech type skills that are needed to download apps and create documents and presentations. At the same time, students can download apps that are good for learning. These apps could also be shared with other students in the class. The teacher of students would be able to record group discussions or lectures in class using programs like Skype or Remind 101. The phone could also be used as a tool to provide auditory learners with an educational aid. Last, the student could use the phone to help with organizing their assignments with the electronic calendar. According to a research study on the USA Today website, “Although schools have traditionally banned or limited cell phones in the classroom, 73% of Advanced Placement and National Writing Project teachers said their students use phones in the classroom or to complete assignments, according to a Pew Research Center study” (Higgins).

In terms of the beneficial side of having phones, the potential is unlimited. Many people throughout schools have been enjoying the use of phones and their numerous benefits, which include, but are not limited to: music, kahoot, and research. In my personal opinion, music has helped me most through school, I have never gone through a day of high school without listening to music, it keeps me going through the very mundane repetitive school days. Also, kahoot has proved very useful in terms on learning in classes such as French, AP European History, and so many more. I have also used it for research many times, using Google Translate again for French, research for previous English classes and much more. Permitting cell phone use would ultimately encourage personal responsibility, something students of today’s generation severely lack.

In this new age of technology, even with the growing trend of cell phones being brought to school and used during class, our board of education must stick to the status quo, which is that cell phones should not be allowed in class. We need to disallow cell phones in class for three main reasons: they provide a temptation and distraction to students, studies have proven that cell phones correlate with lower test scores, and finally students can develop addictions to cell phones which can detrimentally affect the lives of the students.
