Mrs. Mill was excited for a new year of teaching kids and interacting with students, but when her class had their noses buried in the phones all the time, she felt abashed. More and more kids are getting cell-phones every year, and because cell-phones are gaining more educational abilities, some people are suggesting that phones be allowed for more use in school. Although cell-phones can be an useful learning tool, they should not be allowed in schools because many kids would abuse the privilege, there are many other technologies available for use, and phones are also not available to every person. So it stands to reason that most students would not use their phone for school appropriate activities. A broad range of other technologies are available for school use that have wider internet searching capabilities and less distracting qualities. Evidence: For instance the Toshiba Satellite c55 is an amazing laptop for under $500 and the Acer C7 Chromebook is available for less than $300. Sure, having students bring their own phones to school is cheaper, but most phones would not be used for school purposes anyway.That means you can have other technologies that are better overall, have a lesser distraction factor, and can be bought for a good price. Phones aren’t available to every person who needs them. Around 73% of teens have, or have access to a smartphone. That means that 27% of kids in grades nine through twelve would be left out without a phone in school. That’s almost 600,000 kids! Yes the parents of the students without phones could just buy them one, but it is likely the parents couldn’t afford it anyway. So it can be concluded that numerous kids would be left out without a phone
