Mrs. Mill was excited for a new year of teaching kids and interacting with students, but when her class had their noses buried in the phones all the time, she felt abashed. More and more kids are getting cell-phones every year, and because cell-phones are gaining more educational abilities, some people are suggesting that phones be allowed for more use in school. Although cell-phones can be an useful learning tool, they should not be allowed in schools because many kids would abuse the privilege, there are many other technologies available for use, and phones are also not available to every person. So it stands to reason that most students would not use their phone for school appropriate activities. A broad range of other technologies are available for school use that have wider internet searching capabilities and less distracting qualities. Evidence: For instance the Toshiba Satellite c55 is an amazing laptop for under $500 and the Acer C7 Chromebook is available for less than $300. Sure, having students bring their own phones to school is cheaper, but most phones would not be used for school purposes anyway. That means you can have other technologies that are better overall, have a lesser distraction factor, and can be bought for a good price. Phones aren’t available to every person who needs them. Around 73% of teens have, or have access to a smartphone. That means that 27% of kids in grades nine through twelve would be left out without a phone in school. That’s almost 600,000 kids! Yes the parents of the students without phones could just buy them one, but it is likely the parents couldn’t afford it anyway. So it can be concluded that numerous kids would be left out without a phone
Phone technology has been upgrading and updating for years now, and that’s obvious, and that means that this generation is filled with it. While it’s upgrading it’s also becoming more in demand than before. The world is starting taking it to another level, so there are also the downsides of these phones, the downsides that make this technology distracting, making people to beleive they shouldn’t be alowed in class. Shawndre Fordham says "that technology is what the kids grew up with, that it's what they know and understand which makes it easier for them to learn." When students learn in a way that they understand, it makes it less complicated and it may even improve their test scores. Liz Wilin as said or asked, "what if the teacher has a fascinating lesson that requires them to be actively involved in their learning and utilizing their cell phones?" If the students have to be involved then how are they supposed to get to their messages or social media? But the downfall to that is that the teacher doesn't know if the students are or aren't actually participating. Obviously, having cell phones can have its ups and downs but this seems to be the most important reason why they should be

In terms of the beneficial side of having phones, the potential is unlimited. Many people throughout schools have been enjoying the use of phones and their numerous benefits, which include, but are not limited to: music, kahoot, and research. In my personal opinion, music has helped me most through school, I have never gone through a day of high school without listening to music, it keeps me going through the very mundane repetitive school days. Also, kahoot has proved very useful in terms on learning in classes such as French, AP European History, and so many more. I have also used it for research many times, using Google Translate again for French, research for previous English classes and much more. In an online survey taken by debate.org the results showed that 84 percent of participants believed mobile devices are useful in emergency situations. This
