There are many great books nationwide, but some get banned or restricted on who can you read them. “Always Running: La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A.” happens to be one of the many books that get banned from many schools districts. A parent named ‘Martin Roger’ wants the book banned from San Diego County from the schools because it's “pornographic”. San Diego Superintendent understands where he’s coming from but the book “Always Running” is protected by the first amendment. The book is banned from elementary schools, because one parent opposes for their child not to read this particular book, doesn’t mean all the children in the district don’t have the right to read it.

Luis thought he wasn’t wanted in school, and he didn’t want to get involved in school no matter how many schools he went to. All he really needed was a mentor to understand him and help get through his struggle. “.. she offered quips and comments about me not attending school” (Luis 133)
Mitigating measures, for school assignments a parent permission slip should be sent out for the parents consent. There should be a age restriction, maybe some censorship in the book. This way students could be given the opportunity to read the book with permission of their parents. Don Pueblos High School decided to band “Always Running”by Luis J. Rodriguez as mandatory reading for high school students. Parents criticized the book as “graphic sexual content and violence” The book is still available in the book in the school library to read if students pleased.
Freedom of speech, the first amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” This is our first amendment we could share our opinions even if our people don't agree.
