America Needs a Larger Gas Tax
Don’t you hate driving up to the gas station to fill up your car with gasoline only to see that the price has risen again. You stand there stunned for a moment. Just long enough for the rage to build up and compell you to go into a frenzy of screaming obsceneties. Yes, it is a scene that happens all across the country, but, I think I can offer some words of advice: Get used to it.
You may hate the gas prices now but if I had my way I would raise it a whole dollar more than what it is now. Now before you gouge my eyes out let me explain. A high speed rail system would be a good idea for many reasons. Primarily, it would cut down on the amount of people who drive or fly. In 1997 the government issued a report about how high speed trains would help solve congestion problems that face our nation’s highways and airports (www.fra.dot.gov/o/hsgt/index.html). Also, most high speed trains require less fuel than your average airplane or automobile.
Money left over form the tax, or if we choose to continue the tax just for this purpose, would be used to help fund research on alternative fuels. They have already made a great many advances with alternative fuels and hybrid cars. Honda has already made a that can travel up to 700 miles on one tank of gas. And it can get up to 70 mpg on the highway (www.consumerenergycenter.org/transportation/afv/hybrid.html). This kind of progress has all been done within the last decade. Imagine with a little extra funding the progress that could be made. Imagine, driving down the road, getting about 100 to 150 mpg. You would no longer have to even worry about gas prices because you would only have to fill up about once a month, which leads me to the next reason why raising gas prices would be a good idea.

They believe the president has influence of derterming the outcomes of tensions betwwen Israel and Iran. Some people blame incrased prices based on fears around the world. Calitalism can be great to an economic system because of its emphasis on efficienc and inbradible success rate at allowing those who control the means of production and resources to meet the demands of those with purchasing power. Automobiles play a major role in today's society. Almost every American owns at least one motorized transportation vehicle. Some say they make our lives better by reaching places faster than before. Others say they are a harmful to the environment. Have they made our society better or worse? They may be fast, but do we as humans want our environment to suffer because of time. Face it, cars pollute. And they release destructive chemicals into the air. Air pollution can threaten the health of many subjects in the environment including human beings.
If gasoline were to result in a surplus, people would buy less gas, the gasoline industry will become more competitive; gas stations would begin to shut down because their earnings won't be enough keep the company up and running. Thankfully that moment doesn't look like its coming in the near future.
The soda industry has been influential since its breakthrough such as companies like Coca-Cola “giving money to and maintaining a cozy relationship with the Global Energy Balance Network, a nonprofit that promoted exercise over diet to combat obesity, the financial relationship between soda companies and public health groups have been scrutinized” (Blackmore). The city of San Francisco is bringing back the soda tax proposition which will add 2 cents on soda per ounce. Last time around it wasn’t as successful only getting half of the votes when they needed, at least, seventy-five percent. I see the many benefits that this railroad brings; I can see why you introduced the bill. The benefits are great. It would be easier to get supplies, and selling commodities would be very easy and inexpensive. My wife’s family from New York can come and visit, the many benefits the transcontinental railroads brings, I agree with you that much.
Everyone around the country needs to work to lower emissions into the air to reduce the greenhouse gases trapping heat in the atmosphere. I am not a fan of electric vehicles but, they are better for the environment than gas or diesel vehicles. They release less gases into the air and can be recharged almost anywhere with solar panel charger adapters. Since we are able to make wholesale purchases and get large discounts on our gasoline, we no longer have to markup our gas prices and we can keep a very low profit margin on our gasoline, which will in turn attract customers. With the increase in customers, we should be able to reasonably expect our in store sales to increase as well, which is where we expect a majority of our profit to come in from anyways. Moreover, from Chevron’s perspective, we should be worried that the current ruling does not get appealed because if it does we potentially can be worse off than we were before because of being forced to change our prices drastically which has a negative impact towards our market.
