In the first amendment it clearly states that we have the right to say anything we feel. We Americans have what is called “freedom of speech”. We can express this right in many ways: like protesting against something we do not believe in, saying what we want when we feel it or posting what we want to online. People have just recently become too emotional. They get their feelings hurt too easily and find a way to take offense to every little thing we say that they don’t like. Unlike most I do not think we should have a limit on our speech. if people want to post online what they think, then they should be able to post it without backlash from others. Our social media pages are for our own personal enjoyment. It is a place where we are able to post our feelings and thoughts on current events. If someone posts something you do not like there are two simple ways to handle it. You could …show more content…
Everyone has a different upbringing and you should not be angry when someone expresses their feelings. You should be able to say what you want in public without being attacked. If you get angry at someone for stating their personal opinion, then you are in the wrong. Most people say that you are not mature when you voice what comes to your mind, but the truth is if you are unable to ignore things that people say that you do not agree with then you are the immature one. Some people are more filtered than others and it is not your job to control that. In conclusion, people have the right to free speech. At the end of the day we have the right to say what comes to our mind. Not everything that comes out of people’s mouth may be right or always appropriate, but as adults we should be able to ignore it. Unless they are planning on changing this amendment any time soon everyone should try and get used to the fact that at the end of the day people will say what comes to their mind no matter how unethical it may
The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many. Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want. Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said. Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and misunderstanding of this first amendment.
Freedom of speech gives people The right to free speech, which is one of the most precious rights an individual has as a citizen of the United States of America. This right gives people the opportunity to speak their mind and give their opinions of what they think should happen. These rights have been questioned and exercised throughout history and have produced extremely positive things in a lot of cases. The questioning of these rights are
The first amendment, the right of freedom of speech is one of the most important classic fantasy to almost anyone living in the United States, building the foundation of our nation. This right gives us plenty of different opportunities to express our opinions and political viewpoints on any issues in America. But it comes with a price, people have been protesting multiple different events trying to prevent people from expressing opposing opinions or political viewpoints on that has issues in America. For the minority of people, expressing a different opinion should be protected no matter how controversial or insensitive it may be.
Since this country was founded, we have had a set of unalienable rights that our constitution guarantees us to as Americans. One of the most important rights that is mentioned in our constitution is the right to free speech. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
In today’s era people are being limited in their freedom of speech because people are too sensitive and it can be offensive.
How much we value the right of free speech is put to its severest test when the speaker is someone we disagree with most. Speech that deeply offends our morality or is hostile to our way of life warrants the same constitutional protection as other speech because the right of free speech is indivisible. However, in recent years, the right to free speech is one of legal and moral ambiguity-What separates offensive free speech from dangerous or threatening (and presumably illegal) hate speech? Under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, every American citizen should be entitled to the right of free expression, thought, and speech. While free speech, including racial, sexist, or otherwise prejudiced remarks, must protected no matter
Americans and free speech go together like burger king. You can always have it your way, but at what cost? Free speech is something that has been around for a long time, but has involved & seen various dilemmas that make you want to question it & your own freedom. Although free speech was guaranteed in the first amendment there have been many situations that in a complex way make you think about your own rights & the whole purpose of being born in the United States with them. If I was to wake up one day & decide that I wanted to freely create a protest expressing that I support gay rights or the LGBT community then by all means I should be able to do that without any interference.
The freedom of speech has never been free to everyone. Many Americans grow up with this saying and feel it to be true. Suzanne Nossel wrote her article “How we communicate is changing. So should the way we think about free speech”, published in August of 2017 in The Washington Post, and she argues that “students who seek to shut down speech that offends - through calls to disinvite speakers, punish offensive remarks or shout down opponents - have been dismissed as coddled, unenlightened, entitled, anti-intellectual, dogmatic and infantile.” (Nossel, 2017, p. 1). Nossel builds her credibility with facts and reputable sources, citing convincing facts and statistics, and successfully employing emotional appeals.
Freedom of speech has been a controversial issue throughout the world. Our ability to say whatever we want is very important to us as individuals and communities. Although freedom of speech and expression may sometimes be offensive to other people, it is still everyone’s right to express his/her opinion under the American constitution which states that “congress shall make no law
To begin, the very first amendment to the United States Constitution grants citizens with the freedom of speech. The freedom of speech is generally the right to express your own opinion without restrictions. This typically includes the right not to speak if you do not want to, the right to advertise goods, products, and services, and even the right to use certain derogatory words and/or phrases to transfer political beliefs. However, citizens often get confused about what is actually granted within the right and what is not. For example, if you are in a public place with a good
The United States Constitution grants American citizens the freedom of speech. This single line in the First Amendment has been a staple of American culture since its ratification on December 15, 1791 (Constitution Center, 2018). The Founders recognized the significance of this freedom and the power it had to shape a young nation. It was George Washington who declared-“If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter” (Global Research, 2016). The legal definition of this vision is “the right to express information, ideas, and opinions- free of government restrictions based on content and subject only to reasonable limitations” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2018). Consequently, this sole clause
Why should it be restricted? People have a right to say whatever they want to say. No one has the right to stop them. Sometimes the world may not like some of the opinions people voice, or the words that they use, but this is absolutely no reason to have the government trample people's natural rights. What about it needs to be restricted? Freedom of speech can help the world change. But like BIG said “we can’t change the world unless we change ourselves”. For example, how can a preacher have the right to express/voice his opinion about some but the congregation can’t. Maybe that’s a bad example ha-ha but you get what I’m trying to say. Where can it be restricted at? It can be restricted in the White House. Presidents don’t realize how powerful there tongue is. Like for instance Donald Trump dissing Steph like that come on man you’re the president. As much as I dislike Steph, the way he handle it people couldn’t do nothing but respect him. It’s probably so much going on in that place with Trump. But see now this comes back to things that we have no control over its done now he’s the man in charge either get with it or get gone. Just have to pray that he doesn’t make a decision that he’ll regret. Who should restrict it? If they were to be restricted the president should be the first to do so. Donald
Free speech should not be restricted. The first amendment gives the right for anyone to say whatever he or she wants, whenever they want and guarantees us the privilege to speak our minds without limitations. Our right to free speech is one thing that sets the United States apart from any other country. Since September 11, 2001 all
The things people do or say is their own personal choice. Everyone should have the right to say what they feel without the fear of getting arrested. As people get older they mature and learn what they can say and what should be left unsaid and that is a trust that should be left to the people. I feel that censorship on language is becoming too strict. Students face punishment for saying the wrong thing or wrong word. Yes, I do understand that some things should not be said, but that is where family comes in. As a parent you should teach your child not to say certain things and that they should know better. Freedom of speech is granted to us as Americans and we should be able to express ourselves, but we should know to respect those that surround us.
Freedom of speech should have some limitations. The American people should have the right to say whatever they want, but to an extent. Whether it is on signs or verbally some things should not be expressed. The United States is well known for being “the home of the free,” but some people take their freedom a bit too far. People can burn flags, protest at military funerals, even use the “n” word and watching pornography in libraries.
