The United States of America is a nation that was founded on the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These values would not exist to the extent of which they do today without the sacrifices of America’s veterans. The men and women of the armed forces pledge their lives to our defense, so that we may continue enjoying the freedoms which so many of us take for granted. In this, they show the most important trait of civic virtue; selflessness. They put their country ahead of themselves as individuals. America’s veterans choose their path knowing the difficulties it will hold, kowing the sacrifices they will be required to make, fully aware that they may never return, but safe in the knowledge that they are supported by their
These past and present veterans are vital to the survival of the U.S. They make it possible for us to have a life worry free, to the thought of danger. Without past generations of veterans we would be living in a country full of awful things. Veterans help to protect the children and people, by keeping
We honor our veterans because every day they put their lives on the line to protect our country; to preserve the freedom of this great land. Without question, without hesitation, these brave people come forth every day to help defend the 350 million people
US Veterans are proud to have served, but what if they stop caring and sharing the need for Freedom and our Republic to the future? Value our Vets, as they have kept Liberty and Justice alive, and will hopefully continue to inspire those who might make the same sacrifices again tomorrow. Veterans in today’s United States are less than 1% of the over 300 million in this country. I think Veterans are important for this reason today, and every day! Please see how important they are like I do.
Throughout history, war has been one of the few constants that has never changed, because of this many have tried to aid those affected by it. In America, the Department of Veterans Affairs(VA) was created in order to specifically help veterans as they return from their service overseas. However, a few decades ago, the VA seemed to have failed in their goal during arguably one of the most important wars in American history. The mission statement, originally spoken by President Abraham Lincoln was: “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s Veterans.” The mission statement brings up values of integrity and loyalty to America’s veterans, however
Veterans put their life on the line to help defend our country because it’s something they feel they need to do. They are very inspiring people. Most people don’t have the courage to go to war. The men and women who are so courageous are once in a lifetime people who have amazing stories to tell. Our freedom would not exist if it weren’t for veterans.
“The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war”.- General Douglas MacArthur. General Douglas was a Chief of Staff in World War II. This quote was said to mean that the soldiers who never gave up and gave it there all even if they got hurt they keep going. Veterans are our Americans heroes because they sacrificed their lives, gave us freedom, and gave up all there time to fight.
One often misinterprets the true meaning of war, believing it is only a dispute that is ended through fighting. In fact, war is more than just fighting. It is a battle where many brave souls lose their lives for protecting the country they love. Many of the rights we have today would not have been possible without the sacrifice of many brave American soldiers. Instead of living in a tranquil and prosperous nation, we could be living in a nation that resembles countries such as Africa, living under poor conditions and extreme poverty. It is imperative to take into consideration that the veterans we have today have made an impact on our nation and we owe much of our respect to them. Not many people have the courage to take on the heavy and overwhelming duty of going to war, knowing that death is imminent. Along with that, many of them have experienced traumatizing moments that have scarred them for life. Because of this, there is much appreciation and respect inclined towards
Millions of men and women have served in the armed forces before me and millions more will serve after. Some have paid the ultimate sacrifice; some lost and captured, others received wounds, physically and or emotionally, and that time
American veterans are amazing people because they have been through more than what most people experience, but some are blessed enough to still be here today to tell their story. American veterans to me are brave men and women who risk their lives so we can improve our’s the slightest bit. They make the world a better place everyday.
While I admire the work that many veterans have done, I don’t believe that I would be able to make the same sacrifices as they did. As a service to their country, they took it upon themselves to protect those unknown to them. They are a part of something greater than themselves in which they are essential to the outcome of the whole. All roles are of equal importance because without them all our rights would be unfound. There would be no freedom of speech or right to a fair trial. Our country would be without purpose if we
Individualism and equality are two of America’s core values. These core values are the standards by which every American uses to distinguish what behavior are acceptable and what is not in the society in which we live in. It is these two values that our responsible for molding our personalities as well as our behaviors. I believe out of all the values the United States possess, individualism and equality are the two most important values to follow.
The issue that has been addressed throughout this study is veteran’s rights. The issue of veteran’s rights is still being pursued and is near and dear to me. Not only am I a veteran, but I come from a long line of men and women who have proudly worn the uniform in defense of our nation. Between the mindset of the American public, to the cases presented before Congress, this is an ongoing dilemma. Caring for our brothers and sisters in arms is the socially responsible thing to do. However, many roadblocks must be torn down before this can come to fruition.
Living in America, the land of the free, I have taken the right of freedom for granted a few too many times. To this day, certain populations around the world are not able to enjoy the right of individualism. Many are oppressed by their country’s strict law due to a primarily focus on male dominance, child labor, and female oppression. Obtaining freedom is never easy. It takes honor, courage, and commitment. Fighting for freedom is an ironic concept because soldiers must be willing to sacrifice their own. Even after knowing this sacrifice, we still have brave individuals who volunteer to put their lives in harm’s way for the safety and insurance of our freedom. It is only fair that we return the favor and take care of our soldiers and veterans
Military veterans sacrifice many things to defend America. Sacrificing their families, jobs, friends, and sometimes even their lives, to protect our human rights is honorable. They venture away from all of the luxuries of home to ensure that America remains the same extraordinary country that it is.
American civic participation has changed in the 20th century. The first way civic participation has changed is social liberation. Since the 1960s or so, exclusions on the basis of race and gender have been breached. In the past, women and ethnic minorities were not allowed to join organizations as members, so they joined partner organizations. However, some organizations were unable to cope with change after the Civil Rights Movement happened and ideals changed and lost membership. Another change is the decline in American patriotism. Skocpol writes, “Patriotism, brotherhood, and sacrifice were values celebrated by all fraternal groups, and military service was touted as the surest
