The goal of this paper is to research the differences and even the similarities between my very own personal beliefs and those of the Amish culture.
In many cultures, the male gender role is usually associated with physical stamina, aggression, and dominance, while the female gender role is associated with submissiveness, nurturing, and dependence. My beliefs regarding both of these roles are that either can be played out however way they choose to be played. I believe all women have the right to do whatever they choose to with their bodies, act how they may, and choose whichever profession they'd like without being frowned upon or judged by either a man or another woman.
I was born and raised Catholic and am a very spiritual person. With

It allows friends and family to offer their last goodbyes, to honor them, and to recognize and celebrate the life that they once previously had.
I chose to research and write this presentation on the Amish culture because their beliefs and traditions are so different from the beliefs and acts that I follow myself. Despite what anyone will say, I have always had a great amount of respect for them because of many things that I have read and experienced through them personally, their biggest goals are focused on family, God, and hard-work.
Most people already know that the Amish favor on separating themselves from today's modern world. They feel that they are given the gift of eternal life, that they consider to be entirely undeserved and because they feel that they are undeserving of this gift, they must live a life that is similar to their Savior's. That life is filled with humbleness, forgiveness, suffering, no violence, and an avoidance of

After that, when they turn 14 years old, the children will then enter their way into the workforce which mostly consists of farming. They avoid modern technology all together, including telephones and electricity in their households. Their main form of transportation is a horse and buggy. The more traditional Amish speak a dialect of German which is called Pennsylvania Dutch. Holidays celebrated by the Amish are the religious holidays like Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, and so on. On Christmas Day, they use that today to celebrate Christ's birth and they use the day after, December 26, as the time for visiting and family
The American Experience filmed an episode called “The Amish: Shunned” featuring several former Amish community members. Throughout the episode, we see scattered clips of them telling their stories of what they have dealt with after leaving their settlements. They grew up in a home with strict regulations that believe modern technology and urban life leads to a life of sin and emptiness. The typical Amish lifestyle resembles the everyday life of the American pilgrims with everything from their bonnets to their religious views. From having left 6 weeks to 20 years ago, the people in the special all share similar feelings of inadequacy and dissatisfaction with the way they lived in the colonies. As the show continues, it provides
With the modern world symbolizing damnation, the Amish religion counters by symbolizing salvation. These statements alone, with such confidence in the religion, help explain why there is an impressive and astonishingly high, (80-90%) return rate among the tested Amish.
Cultural values are collective conceptions of what is considered good or desirable. While American culture has been known for values pertaining to individualism, the Amish value their religion greatly. They follow Jesus Christ and their goal is to go to Heaven. For example the value of education is viewed differently in both cultures. While Americans stress the value of schooling and pursuing a higher education, the Amish believe that education leads to hubris. At Amish funerals, eulogies are not common on behalf of the deceased because they do not praise individuals. In addition, the Amish do not value sports, personal appearance, or rights and freedom. Although, both cultures value the importance of family, and
Amish culture is a European born group of Christians who are descendents of Mennonite church. Due to few fundamental religious differences, they separated from Mennonite regime which made them go through a series of violence causing a remarkable decrease in their population. However, after gaining ground sin United States and Canada, they are living their lives peacefully in isolation. The current culture of Amish people is a true representative of simplicity, humility, thrift, obedience,
One group that has stood out for hundreds of years with their beliefs, customs, and traditions are the Amish. This Christian group has its cultural identity and cultural memory; living a plain and simple life. While the Amish rely on their customs to protect them from worldly influences, they constantly battle to keep their identity, which is where Amish traditions come into play to help preserve their identity and stay separate from the English world.

When he started questioning the ideologies of the church, he began to conduct his own research, and found out that the baptism of infants was not in the bible. Simons then began to take the scripture more seriously, and eventually became a leader of the Swiss Brethren Anabaptists. Using his leadership powers, Simons, who did not agree with the Muenster uprising, preached non-violence and instead turned to separation of the world and the sin that came along with it. Menno was soon baptised into the church, and his followers soon identified themselves as being Mennonites, which is the tradition that Amish history is so deeply embedded in. While the Mennonites were still continuing to be fined, jailed, and even deported for their beliefs, the killing of those who followed the religion decreased. Many Mennonites retreated into less populated, mountainous regions, and took up farming practices, which much later attributed to their reputation of being talented and successful
(Holmes & Block, 2013). Andrews said that the Amish have a high standard of how they conduct themselves. So distance from each other in terms of space is a couple feet apart from each other. You will not see them holding hand or kissing each other even if they are married. That is not to say that they are not closes knitted to their family or to other Amish. Their perception of time is to work hard and to enjoy life making god a priority. There only day of rest is Sunday and they don’t take vacations or sick days. They do use herbal and homeopathic medicine sometimes they even go to the doctors but if they are to get sick and there is nothing medicine can do they will not try and prolong death like being on a vent. They are ready to go to heaven if that what god wants. . They also don’t have any environmental control work the land and let god be in control. The Amish’s biological variations are their more likely to get Von Willebrand disease or some genetic disorder

The Amish live on their own and care for their own things without the help of outsiders. By isolating themselves from the modern world the Amish keep a strong faith. They have good values and try to continue showing those values through their children and grandchildren.

Scientists make interesting discoveries daily. One of the recent discoveries is a gene mutation that some Midwestern United States Amish people have. They are an interesting culture, that live isolated all around the United States. These communities are closed and no outsides are really allowed. This is what makes this culture very interesting.
The Amish are a group of people that have settlements in the United States primarily in northern Pennsylvania. Amish life is centered on religion and the family. Above all things they honor obedience to the family and to God. For most people outside of the Amish culture, these people seem quaint and out of touch. This is primarily attributed to the Amish belief in simplicity and their rejection of modern technologies (The Amish 2011). One of the most important aspects of Amish life and livelihood is agriculture. The Amish people who now also have different economic opportunities such as the ownership of shops, still focus much of their life on the growth and harvest of food and other crops.
The Amish customs and belief regarding death, this should occur at their home versus at the hospital. “As physical strength declines, the expectation is that the family will care for the aging and the ill in the home”(Purnell & Paulanka, 2008, p. 88). They feel the need to care and continuous support for the individual while they are dying or suffering from their illness. The Amish will visit one another frequently at their home, especially if the individual is suffering from a terminal illness. When death occurs, there are frequent visits at the individual home and the community church accommodates visitors from out of town and coordinates the funeral arrangements. The immediate family is relieved from making decisions regarding the
The Holy Quran says, “O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).” The God created and made us as nations and tribes that might know one else not to fight one else. The God not just created males and females to life in their area and death; he tells us to share other cultures and know other nations.
To set a foundation, the Amish are described by David Weaver-Zercher, the author of the article, “Putting the Amish to Work: Mennonites and Amish Culture Market, 1950-1975” as having significant “disciplinary rigor” (91). This is played out in their work life through their rejection of mechanical machinery in their farming. Plus, it should be noted that some communities even go to the extreme of only using horses. The Amish value hard work and discipline which are played out best on the farm. These values are displayed as Zercher later goes on to tell more of the Amish work life as the “grit and grime of the farm” as kids would
