Based on the information I have at the end of Part 1, I believe that the key priority should be to take an ethnocentric viewpoint, by only considering Parent Country Nationals (PCNs) for the management positions, and primarily seek internal, experienced and well qualified staff, as there are many advantages for doing so. Brunt Hotels’ culture, goals, policies and management style would already be known, which makes sense not only financially, but also means the brand can be positively promoted easier, and result in it being less difficult to report back to the home country management.
Furthermore, as well as having managerial expertise and technical competence that puts internal PCNs ahead of both external applicants and

Imagine I were a management consultant who has to design a selection process for the candidates. The new hotels must be up and running quickly, so the senior management team have asked me to design a selection process, which must take a maximum of two days. With there being no budget limit for the development of the process, I would present the following ideas and justify why my method would be appropriate:
I would first need to understand what
Webster’s dictionary defines ethnocentrism as “The tendency to evaluate other groups according to the values and standards of one's own ethnic group, especially with the conviction that one's own ethnic group is superior to the other groups.” When first reading this definition, one would naturally agree that ethnocentrism does exist in our world and society, often confusing it with patriotism. However, many do not realize that ethnocentrism is, has been, and continues to be a leading cause for violence in America. Different ethnic groups such as African Americans and Native Americans have suffered through years of violent crimes against them because of the white man’s ethnocentric views of themselves when compared with other races and
In a world with many different cultures, ethnocentrism is a constant threat to society. When horrendous acts of racism, sexism , and disability discrimination are constantly the headlines of multiple news outlets. It is clear that the perils of ethnocentrism are now considered common things to happen. One example of have ethnocentrism was presented in the past would be in 1904 the Bronx Zoo had an exhibition containing a person from the Congo of Africa. The Aboriginals in Australia are also another good example of how ethnocentrism has developed. Lastly in early creation tales there is a common theme of that men are superior to women. Although ethnocentrism has been developing over centuries some immediate dangers include a variety of discrimination, and in result can cause an assortment of violence.

Our text defines ethnocentrism as the practice of judging another culture by the standards of one’s own culture. (Macionis, 2012). This means that sometimes the way we view certain practices and beliefs of other cultures is determined by what we are accustomed to in our own cultures. The result of ethnocentrism is assuming the
Through travel and hospitality related experiences in my life I have created two major goals for my career. My first trip to Las Vegas was the time when my first major career goal was established. By walking through each hotel I could easily see that each place had a different style and way of operating. Observing these examples allowed me to determine which hotel/resort or company would be the best to work for. MGM’s Aria Resort and Casino has always stuck out to me as a well-running, high class establishment; the workers are professional, but friendly and the atmosphere is comforting while keeping up with the modern times. With this said, one of my goals is to be employed by the Aria. Although, knowing how competitive this industry can be, I would
Dr. Wayne Dyer once stated that “the ultimate ignorance is the rejection of something you know nothing about.” This ignorance has been found in humanity time and time again, and has been the root of unparalleled devastation. The rejection of other cultures is a troubling trait that has persisted throughout the ages, and must be put to a stop. Mankind’s biggest flaw is its belief that one culture is superior to another, thus practicing ethnocentrism, which leads to conflict.

While the organization attracts team members across all generations, a huge feeder into the talent pipeline is attracting students in university hotel schools to join the Management Development Program (MDP) or become a Guest Service Agent (GSA). The focus is on developing the new generation of hoteliers; however, Pacifica should not forget to continue seeking talent for the top hotel positions. Each RDO should have a minimum of three potential AGM and GM candidates at all time in his specific
Training and employment of local people tourism education: The travel and tourism originations should employ local people wherever possible. Where local people lack of the necessary skills, training programmes should be implemented. An example is Sandals in the Caribbean, who claim to have compulsory training for 120 hours per year for line staff in their hotels.
Based on the evidence provided in (Robson, 2008) “case study one” I would state the following as strategic priorities for Brunt Hotel. Firstly, conduct an audit of existing staff who are willing to relocate to France. Also, a checklist of remaining French hotel from the acquired hotel. This examination will shed light on knowledge and skill set. Upon competition of that review, the HR department must develop a
