Take some time to do research on the use and abuse of anabolic steroids and compile a list of the major side effects in men and woman. Based on this research, address each of the following questions:
a. Some anabolic steroids mimic the effects of testosterone (i.e., androgenic) whereas others act as estrogens (i.e., estrogenic). What are the major differences in side effects between these two classes of drugs?
Steroids have many side effects affecting both men and women that can range from acne development to death. This can be true for both male and females.Because of this, there are side effects that can happen to men and women, and side effects that can happen to only men, and side effects that can happen only to women. I would like to

The mental effects that steroids have for both males and females are as follows: paranoia, delusions, bad decision making, and irritability. The physical effects steroids can have in males are: shrinkage of testicles, decrease in sperm count, and development of breasts. For females, the effects of steroids are: voice deepening, clitoral enlargement, breast size shrinkage, hair growth where most men get hair, and menstrual irregularity.
c. Based on your research, assess the risks and benefits of anabolic steroid use as a means to build muscle. Based on this assessment, indicate whether or not you would recommend the use of these drugs to a friend who was interested in building muscle

The befits of taking steroids are: steroids can save organs when inflammation can destroy an organ, low doses can relive pain, they can help a person recover from a flare-up of arthritis, and can help a person bring up their level of testosterone, forming a positive feed back loop. These may all seem good, but these are all treatments that are prescribed by doctors. If my friend wanted steroids from me, and without a prescription from a doctor( making it illegal), is it a good idea? No, because there is a reason they made it illegal unless a professional (doctor) gives it to you: the side effects can be catastrophic to your health. There are some side effects that cannot be reversed, such as permanent baldness, and the permanent change it can have on the deepening of a females voice, or in males were if you develop breasts, it is irreversible. There are so many other side effects for males, and just as many for females. Males can have shrinkage of testicles, and a decrease in sperm count. Females can have breast shrinkage, clitoral enlargement, menstrual irregularities, and increase of body hairs. As you can see the side effects and risks clearly outweigh the benefits of steroid use. As previously mentioned there are better ways to
According to Brower, withdrawal symptoms might be developed in the individuals who stop taking anabolic steroids after they have taken excessive amount of anabolic steroids over sustained period. The symptoms included mood swings, insomnia, depressed mood, reduced libido, anorexia, weight loss, and even suicidal thoughts. Despite of these behavioral changes, others common adverse effects of anabolic steroids are liver failure, endocrine dysfunction, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, and difficulties in blood clotting. For men, they may experience gynecomastia (breast development and enlargement), reduced fertility, shrunken testes, decreasing in sperm amount, decreased production of testosterone, development of prostate cancer due to the enlargement of the gland, and baldness, and masculinization in women and children. In women, excessive anabolic steroids will lead to breast reduction, swollen clitoris, masculinization, deepen voice, growth of body and facial hair, menstrual disruption and also increased risk of birth defects.
Sub-point B: According to an article on the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a website filled with information on drugs, last updated on March 2016, steroids are used as treatment for diseases that cause muscle loss, such as cancer and AIDS. They are also prescribed by healthcare providers to treat hormonal issues, such as delayed puberty. “But some athletes and bodybuilders abuse these drugs to boost performance or improve their physical appearance.”
Thesis: My goal in this informative speech is to share the knowledge I have gained about steroids.
Another effect from steroid use is health problems. They are high blood pressure and heart disease, liver damage and cancer, kidney and prostate problems and increased risk of ruptured tendons… acne and hair loss, as well as gender-specific problems: atrophy of the testicles, reduced sperm count and the growth of breasts in men; the growth of body hair, deeper voice and menstrual problems in women… altered moods, depression and "roid rage", hallucinations, paranoia and anxiety. In adolescents, they can stunt growth by signaling the body
Thesis: Today I am going to persuade you all about the use of steroids in Major League Baseball, persuading you why steroids should not be allowed in Major League Baseball. I have a call to action for all of you to help others if they are considering using steroids, and next time you watch a MLB game to realize the impact of steroids.
D. Common side effects for woman and men as stated in the article Health Effects of Steroids “ For both sexes…Kidney stress/damage, High blood pressure, Hair loss, Cardiovascular diseases, Acne, Enlarged heart, and Tendon & ligament injuries.”
Steroids come with three different types of risks/side effects that include: mental health, addictive potential and physical dangers. Steroids have immediate effects on the brain of a user as soon as they begin taking them. As soon as steroids are introduced into the user’s system, they “[bind to the] androgen (male sex hormone) and estrogen (female sex hormone) receptors on the surface of a cell.” Studies have suggested that “steroids may contribute to psychiatric dysfunction, paranoid jealousy, extreme irritability, delusions, and impaired judgment stemming from feelings of invincibility” (“NIDA InfoFacts: Steroids (Anabolic-Androgenic)”, 2009). These mental side effects also contribute to the growing narcissistic nature of steroid users, where they feel invincible, that no one is better than them, or
Steroids (anabolic) are a drug that was discovered and made by medical scientists in the last 1930’s to help with medical problems. The drug was made to help with many medical problems such as testosterone, growth, sexual functioning, and other medical problems such as helping people with HIV to help grow musical. It also helps with many other diseases. Like any other drug on the market people learn that the drug can be used for many other ways. Steroids can enhance athlete’s performance as well as bodybuilders and is used in almost every sport out there. The use of steroids has become a widespread problem. Steroid use has caused many help problems with the misuse of the drug and has caused the drug to be illegal for people to use them in
However, this is something that I have always found extremely fascinating. Steroid use is something that is obviously very dangerous, but how dangerous is it? That is a question that I really want to explain and answer because I never understood how steroids worked and what the effects on your body were, until recently I found out that my uncle was using steroids and going to the gym twice a day to gain muscle extremely fast for a horse show to benefit brest cancer and he had to ride shirtless and wanted to make sure his body was in the best looking condition that it could be. But he obviously wasn't concerned about the actual physical effects that it had on his body, something that he is now regretting very very much. Throughout this paper I will be discussing statistics, facts, and uses of steroids. Then we will discuss the healthy and natural way to gain
Anabolic steroids come with serious physical risk to both men and women. Men and women develop different side effects from each other such as,
Some athletes and bodybuilders take steroids know as anabolic androgen steroids. It increases their muscle mass and strength. The main anabolic steroid hormone produced by your body is testosterone. Some athletes take straight testosterone to boost their performance. Testosterone has two main effects on the body; the anabolic effect which promotes muscle building and strength and the other, androgen which case deep voice and is responsible for all male traits. This paper will show the negative effects of how steroids affect the body and include real life interviews.
Many male taking steroids may experience in shrinking of their testicles leading to reduced sperm count and infertility, baldness, development of male breast and in many cases increased rate of prostate cancer. Whereas women taking steroids may experience facial hair growth, changes in menstrual cycle, enlargement of clitoris and deepened voice. People using steroids while their adolescents have a high risk of permanent growth halt permanently through premature skeletal maturation and accelerated puberty
“Steroids are synthetic substances produced in a laboratory, whose chemical structure is similar to that of the male hormone testosterone” (DEA Diversion). Which means that steroids change the appearance of your body. Studies show when women inject a male hormone to their body, they will receive male tendencies; facial hair, deeper voices and bald patterns in their hair, aggressiveness, and unwanted acne.
However, steroids should remain illegal because they physically deteriorate the whole body system. When injected one risks the chances of developing hematoma and contracting AIDS. In women steroids contribute to the growth of facial hair, enlargements of the clitoris, shrinkage of the uterus, sterility, deepening of the voice, decrease in breast size and irregularity of the menstrual cycle. In men steroids cause shrinkage of the testicles, decrease in sperm count, sterility, impotence, prostate enlargement and growth of female breast. In both men and women hair loss, liver ailments, acne, atherosierosis and cancer are very common. This dangerous drug shortens the life span up to twenty years and increases the chance of obtaining diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and hypertension. The side effects and reactions from enduring anabolic steroids are endless.
“Some athletes take a form of steroids — known as anabolic-androgen steroids or just anabolic steroids — to increase their muscle mass and strength. The main anabolic steroid hormone produced by your body is testosterone. Testosterone has many risks some of them are Anabolic effects promote muscle building. Androgenic effects male traits, such as facial hair and a deeper voice. Men get some major risks from taking this type of drug like some are prominent breasts Baldness, Shrunken testicles, Infertility, and Impotence.”(Mayo Clinic)
