Background: Although people have been using steroids over , it wasn't until headline we started learning
Audience Relevance: Although I’m guessing most of you have an idea of what steroids are, I don’t think there are many classes or workshops offered that talk about steroids.
Speaker Credibility: Steroids are not only used by bodybuilders, other athletes and sometimes regular people have access to it and use it. There some misconceptions of steroids and a lot that people don’t know about in detail, that’s why I have researched more about this topic to give you an overview of steroids.
Thesis: My goal in this informative speech is to share the knowledge I have gained about steroids.
Preview of main points: First, I will begin by telling you what is steroid, then, what people use it for, and lastly, I’d like to share with you all the effects steroids have on your health.
Transition to 1st Main Point: To begin, let me start by informing you about what steroids are and its history.
II. Main point 1: There are different types of steroids but I'm going to talk about Anabolic steroids which are most commonly used by athletes.
Sub-point A: According to an article on the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a website filled with information on drugs, last updated on March 2016, anabolic steroids are synthetic (lab made) variations of the male sex hormone testosterone. The proper term for these compounds is anabolic-androgenic steroids. "Anabolic" refers to muscle building, and "androgenic" refers to increased male sex characteristics. Some common names used for anabolic steroids are Gear, Juice, Roids, and Stackers.
Sub-point B: According to an article on CESAR, a website filled with university-based research addressing issues related to alcohol and other drugs, last updated on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, they state that in the early 1930’s a team of scientists created a synthetic (lab made) form of testosterone (a male hormone) to help treat men who were unable to produce enough of the hormone for normal growth, development and sexual functioning. They were later used in World War 2
