The novel called, The House of the Scorpion, starts off with a scientist in a lab and he creates tiny cells. The cells turn into embryos and the scientist plants the embryos in the brood cows. In the cow’s womb, an actual human clone grows in it. However, the scientist plants a very special one and tries not to mess it up. Matt is a clone. He is a clone of El Patron. El Patron, also known as Matteo Alacran, is a powerful drug lord. El Patron is a lord of a country called Opium. Opium lies between the United States. It is known today as Mexico. There are many conflicts in the novel but the biggest one is that Matt is a clone which means he is practically an animal, but he is El Patron’s clone so people are supposed to respect him and treat him fair. However, El Patron dies and Matt is nothing anymore but El Patron kept a big secret about Matt. First, Maria, Tom, and Emilia met Matt at his convent by himself. In the novel, The House of the Scorpion it states, “Maria wasn’t at all shy about coming up to the window. ‘Hey, boy!’ she yelled, rapping the glass with her fist. ‘What’s your name? Do you want to play’” (Farmer 13). However, what if Maria never went to the convent with Tom and Emilia? Maria would have probably seen Matt at the Big House but never fully met him. Second, Matt and Maria are compassionate over each other. The novel asserts, “Matt was astonished to find her crying. She did cry a lot, he remembered. He hugged her and kissed her tear-streaked face” (Farmer
