On this episode of Face the Nation, government officials were interviewed on their thoughts and opinions going on with the current issues in our government at the end of this month and they talked about Republicans disagreeing with Trump’s decisions with tax reform. The other issues that were discussed were Russian interference from the previous election with investigations taking place for this issue and Trump’s declare for a national emergency for the opioid crisis. Each person interviewed takes their own stand on what they think will happen because of these problems going on and what should happen for each issue going on in the U.S. The first person interviewed Bob Corker talks about his own views on tax reform that people are …show more content…
He first talks about his concerns for information leaks and how he feels that it is against the law. Christie also discusses the opioid crisis with money spending and how Trump is launching campaigns to help prevent people from using drugs. He expresses that he feels Trump is opening up opportunities for those who are poor and need medical care. Christie lastly talks about how the real problem from the damages in Puerto Rico was that the info-structure was already damaged and roads that are closed. David Naka-Mona was interviewed as he discusses his own views on Trump and the Russian investigations. He first discusses how he feels that nothing animates Trump more than lashing out at people about the investigation. Also how trump doesn’t want to talk about the investigation and how Russia is affecting democracy. This shows how he expresses his own views on the investigations and Trump's decision making. Ruth Marcus discusses Trump's choices of having reluctance in going after Mueller who is suspected to be involved with the Russian intervention and that a responsible president would get to the bottom of the Russian interventions. Ben Noweck was also interviewed and talks about how he thinks that Russian intervention is unclear and finally discusses how Republicans are using severe language when talking about the president. In my own perspective, I do agree that Russia was involved in the 2016 election since there is evidence of this.
Chris Christie’s level of popularity is very low because of not gaining people’s attention, not backing up his words, and not competing. Gaining people’s attention with actions and speeches was something he was lacking, and he never stood out in any important decisions he made. Being known for something he did that was very important to the whole United States is something he haven’t done yet. Many years before he became government, he has dealt with terrorism and it was a major part of his career at the time (Elliot). Not backing up his words also brought attention and supporters away from him, he has been caught up in a lie plenty of times and according to media, people are fed up with that. Another problem with Chris Christie is that he does not know how to compete to standout. Chris Christie’s level of competiveness is very low. Chris Christie has never been competitive and is one of the main reasons he is not a good
Every year, consumers will spend 2.2 billion dollars on candy this year, witch is 22 teaspoons sugar per day, and 75 pounds sugar per year. In video of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Sugar”, John Oliver is point out the food or drink company is not tell the truth to people how much the sugar are added to our food. For example, the hidden sugars including crackers, salad dressings, breads, ketchup, energy and sports drinks. These staff including a lot sugar that we don’t know, even most people like eat sugar and things mix with sugar taste good, but the point is excess sugar is not good for us. In the video, John Oliver’s purpose is tell the truth and fact about how much sugar we eat that
Bill O’Reilly is the author of Killing Kennedy, and he wrote the book in 2012. O’Reilly was born in 1949 in New York City and later graduated from Marist College with a degree in history in the 1970s. Bill then taught high school for many years before going back to college to get a masters degree in journalism. Starting in the 1980s, O’Reilly began working in television becoming a correspondent for many different news stations. In the 1990s, Bill went back to school this time at Harvard to get a degree in public administration. Shortly after this O’Reilly began his own show on Fox News and years later began his own radio talk show. In the past few years Bill has written a number of books that were about different parts of history including Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy. Since Bill O’Reilly has a background in history and even a degree in history so that makes him even more qualified to write a book on John F. Kennedy and his presidency. Also at the time of the Kennedy presidency O’Reilly was alive and an aware citizen of society. Since Bill O’Reilly lived through this part of history this makes him even more qualified to write about this time in America.
2018 is an interesting time in history. Our debt is increasing, totalling over $21 trillion, mass shootings seem to have become the “norm,” and race issues are resurfacing. Many people feel like the government isn’t doing things to fix these, but how can they? With the extreme division between the two political parties and the fact that each state has different views, it seems nearly impossible to get things done. The government probably won’t be able to come up with some viable solution anytime soon--one that seems to address all sides--, thus making the government
Donald Trump often time attack other politicians with his inaccurate evidences. He stupidly attacked President Obama on his birth certificate because one had to be born on American soil to become a president. At the end, the state of Hawaii released President Obama birth certificate proved that he is American, put an end to Trump’s birther movement (Nakaso). Another one from Trump’s attack was on Clinton’s emails while she was a secretary of State, even though nobody knows about the emails but he shouldn’t be pointing it out because it is her privacy and he said that she should be put in jail for them(Collison). Donald Trump’s attack connected deeply in the play The Crucible in a lot of way. When the judges demand John Proctor to sign his confession so they could nail it on the church said that Proctor is dealing with the devil, but Proctor signed it and ripped it apart because the confession was a lie. Proctor rather died than let a lie shattered his pride (Miller 1231). Proctor’s wife also accused for witchcraft because the doll found in her house. Abigail and Marry Warren set Elizabeth up so she would end up in jail
I believe the most pressing issue plaguing the country is the definition of American values and standing with traditions that should have died long ago. Neo-nazis walking the streets and spewing hate speech should not be a left or right issue, and yet, people continue to argue. That should be the textbook definition of anti-American. Political figures can sweep all they want under the rug and get away with it because the next day there will be an argument to take it’s place. Those in power are not being punished for lying or crimes and the impoverished are being unjustly tried. One example would be Joe Arpaio who was recently pardoned by the president. He committed many crimes even though he was supposed to be enforcing them ,and he is glorified
“Wrong, Wrong!” “I did not!” “Excuse me!” Those were some essential phrases heard in the debate. The first presidential debate in 2016 was extremely intense. The debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump had a little bit of everything. At times both candidates agree but most of the time they disagree. During the debate both candidates were very stubborn because they did not open up to listen to the other candidate’s perspective. The topics covered by Lester Holt were also very interesting. The three topics were income inequality, racial healing, and cyber security. The main question I will focus on will be the question of racial healing.
The day after Donald Trump was sworn into office as the 45th president of the United Sates, millions of people, in the U.S. and more than 60 foreign countries, protested Trump’s presidency and policies (Lee, “Protesting Trump with the Women’s March”). One month has passed since his inauguration day, and Trump’s actions as president have given rise to continued protests and outcries. One of those voices crying in the wilderness is Thomas Friedman, columnist for the New York Times. Friedman has already written several articles about Donald Trump this year. In “Connecting the Dots” published in The New York Times on February 8, 2017, Friedman effectively used facts about the U.S.’s existing relationships and/or agreements with China,
This task was to be done quickly instead going into its detailed version. As told by Mr. Frazer “Trump responds naturally in such a way always by rolling his sleeves up. What is it you want? What is it I want?”4 Both sides worked on the deliverables for the meeting, concrete commitments on which they can affirm. Nevertheless, with lots of If’s and But’s.
After many night with my head stuck in a book. I finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Deciding to shut things down early and watch some television. The program was titles, “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”, I had overheard some co-workers discussing the program, but had limited knowledge of what the program was about. It turns out that the program is a satire news program. On this night, the main topic was, “food waste”. It was a thought provoking topic as it gave some very interesting facts about what happens to most of the food in this country. It was entertaining as it made fun of the usual suspects of celebrities and political figures. This prompted to look throughout the internet for more segments of the show. Unlike most satire news, this week tonight has found a way to reformat bringing trustworthy, fact packed, fun, and entertaining segments into the public view.
The debate where people either despises or loves the candidates. The debate where you saw posts and pictures about it without even wanting to be involved in politics. On September 26th 2016 the debate of presidency took place. This debate was highly anticipated. People wanted to know if Trump would say something racist or would he confess his wrongdoings; or if Clinton would delete other important information or confess to her wrongs. The whole debate was very intense. There were blows that was unnecessary and blows that made you think about the future of our country. In the beginning on the debate it was calm and it was just taking its course, but the more and more the minutes pass, the more bombs were being thrown that’s when people’s cool
The debate began like no other I have seen in the past. As the candidates walked towards center stage they decided not to shake hands. This upset me because although they are adversaries both of the candidates have the same goal: to improve America. That being said, both candidates have wildly different theories on how to improve the country. One theory I agree with is Donald Trumps view on how to combat isis. Trump feels that severe and aggressive actions must be taken. He explains how they are using steel cages to perform mass drownings and are chopping of heads. I believe that we must take severe and not necessarily morally acceptable actions to fight back and therefore agree with Donald Trump on this issue. That being said when it came
On October 9, 2016, the Presidential Debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump took place at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. According to CNN, this was the most watched debate in U.S. History. Over 18 million people watched as the two candidates attempted to discredit one another on national television. Both of the candidates accused each other of illegal wrong doing and attacked their personal and moral issues. Some of the issues addressed in the debate were health care, taxes, and immigration laws. In my opinion, Donald Trump was the most competent speaker in the first 30 minutes of the debate. Trump was the candidate that I thought would win the debate before it even started. In
A major problem in the United States right now is the government. More specifically the lack of trust in our government. A main reason behind the lack of trust in our government is the president, more specifically what the president does while in office.
In recent news, the media discussed how Facebook ads and similar advertisements were purchased by Russian-connected individuals. The media uses this to say that Russian influenced the election, but this view is wrong for several reasons. Reframing the debate would sound something like this:
