Hairspray, released in 2007 is a film based off of both the classic Hairspray film released in 1988, and the 2002 Broadway musical. The film was Produced by Ingenious Media, Zedan/Meron and New Line Cinema and stared Zac Efron, John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes and many more talented actors and actresses (“Hairspray (2007)”). The story takes place in Baltimore, Maryland and is set in 1962. The main character Tracy Turnblad is a heavier girl who dreams of being on the Corny Collins Show; a local teen dance television show. Her and her best friend Penny watch it every day after school and crush on Link Larkin one of the lead dancers who is dating Amber von Tussle. When Tracy has the opportunity to try out for the show she jumps on it, but Velma von Tussle; Amber’s mom and the manager of the WYZT, turns her down for supporting integration and for her heavier physique. The show only accepts white dancers, and once a month Velma lets African-American kids on the show for “Negro Day” which is also open to the public. After being sent to detention one day, Tracy hangs out with the kids who dance on “Negro Day” and learned some new moves from her new friend Seaweed, who also convinces her to come dance on “Negro Day”. When Corny sees her dancing, he insists she be on the show, aggravating Amber and her mother. Tracy soon becomes the show’s most popular dancer and thinks the show should be integrated. With the help of all of her friends, and her parents she is able to
The film ‘Hairspray’ directed by Adam Shankman, is set in June 1962 in Baltimore, America. During this time, the Negroes were segregated from the white people. There was extensive discrimination. Adam Shankman used effective film techniques that helped me to understand a key idea that is that all people should be treated equally regardless of their race and colour. These techniques include the use of prop, costume and dialogue.
In the movie “hair spray” the choreographer and director do a great job explaining not only the history of dance but also a main historic fact. With the classic musical- style story the director is able to introduce a part of history in a fun exciting way through dance and music. The story tells us many different things as well as shows us how dance can bring people from different ethnicities and color together. We can deeply connect with the story if we can understand and experience with story line. The story begins with a girl by the name of “Tracy” who is crazy about singing and dancing the, “new groove”. She is different then the rest in many ways but pursues her dream as a dancer without allowing anything to stop her. She shows her enthusiasm for dancing and singing from the beginning of the movie to the end. The story shows us a part of the 60s when segregation was in place. Whites and people of color where not often seen together. They were unable to live in the same neighborhoods or share the same friends, stores, and buses. At this time in history dance was very
When I saw Hairspray the Musical there were three things that I noticed that were important in making the theatrical performance. Those three things were the acting, production, and how the actors made us, the audience, feel. Each of these things contribute greatly to any performance. I feel that this production of Hairspray hit each of these notes very well.
For a large part of the twentieth century, interracial couples on TV shows were few and far between. Given that anti-miscegenation laws (the laws against inter-breeding of people considered to be of different racial types) remained on the books of U.S. states well into the 1960s, entertainment executives deemed mixed couples too controversial for television. And even now, in current times, the majority of current films presuppose the abnormality of interracial intimacy, leaving little room for alternate stories of harmony. Many of today's films instead poke fun at interracial relationships and depict solely the difficulties faced, the awkward encounters, and the negative effects of participating in one.
At the scene of the crime a hair was found near Anna Garcia. After viewing and testing the hair, we concluded that the hair belonged to Erica. The unknown hair had the exact same thickness and color of Erica’s hair. The hair at the crime scene had a similar cuticle to Erica’s. Both Erica’s hair and the one at the crime scene had the same cortex as well. We believe that Erica’s hair was brought to the crime scene on a piece of clothing by Alex Garcia(Anna’s ex-husband). When Alex came to murder Anna a hair of Erica’s must have fallen off when Alex was doing his deed.
Musicals were meant to bring exoticism to people so that people could enjoy and feel like they are somewhere for a couple of hours. What people didn’t see was the deeper meaning that some musicals brought to the surface like segregation, racism, body issues and LGBT. Hairspray and West Side Story are two musicals that bring deep meaning to their musicals if you look hard enough you will find them. Even though there is race faced in both Hairspray and West Side Story that build issues, yet the both come together as a group at the end.
“Black Hair” by Gary Soto is a three stanza, free verse poem that observes the life of a young Mexican boy and his admiration for Hector Moreno, a Mexican baseball figure. The speaker is immediately identified as the young boy as he starts to reminisce about when he was eight years old. The boy goes on to talk about how he thought of himself at this age, as well as Hector and his parents. He would watch the baseball games and look up to Hector, copying him, and addressing how this win for Hector would be a win for him and all the “brown people”. The audience isn’t addressed as a literal part of the poem, so we can imagine it from a bird’s eye point of view.
Throughout the decades, women’s fashion has evolved many times, each time creating a fashion stamp unique to that particular decade. One thing has remained the same and managed to remain a part of every era: hairspray. It is a cosmetic product that is meant to hold hair in its place. A lot of products we use today are may have unseen consequences to daily usage. A product I use almost daily is hairspray. I always knew hairspray was bad for the environment because of the aerosol that was in them would break down the ozone layer, so I began to look at a specific hairspray that I use just about every morning and night, Sebastian Shaper Hairspray, Regular, Styling Mist for Hold & Control. This specific Sebastian Hairspray product is not only
One day one of the cast members had to leave for a while so the show had auditions. Tracy wants to attend but her mom doesn’t want her dancing on live television. Finally Tracy’s
I interviewed Tracy, who is a registered nurse with Shands Homecare, before working there she worked at North Florida Hospital. She has been a nurse for about ten years. Along with the above questions I asked Tracy a few of my own, one of the questions I asked was if there was a significant experience dealing with death in her profession that impacted her more than others, and there was. She mentioned that she went to a patient's home one day, who had been her patient for quite some time, and she found them deceased. She said that part if that experience that really impacted her was that at the time she found the patient, the patient's son was getting home from school. Tracy said that is was a very tragic experience for her. I also asked Tracy
The Freeland household/family consists of mother, Melanie Freeland and her two children, Mason and Tracy Freeland. Mason is sixteen years old and Tracy is thirteen years old. The family would be considered middle to lower-middle class. This is evidenced by Ms. Freeland’s blue collar job as a hair stylist, which she does out of her home. Although the family seems to have all their basic needs met (the children and parent all have clothes, food, and an appropriate residence) their financial situation seems inconsistent because of Ms. Freeland’s occupation. This is evidenced by Ms. Freeland’s comment of, “Don’t worry, I worked all week,” when she responded to Tracy asking about
Last night on NBC, viewers saw a delightful blast of a colorful cast that included newcomer Maddie Baillio as Tracy Turnblad in the first television adaptation of Hairspray Live!. Hairspray is musical taking place in the 1960s, a time of racial tension. It’s about a young, curvy, sassy teen blends together races with the power of song and dance. Only a sophomore in high school, she brought such a simple glimmer of sunshine to the nighttime program. Maddie excelled as a newbie to the acting business, and I hope to see her career take full flight after this wonderful experience.
Around eleven years ago I learned a lesson. It is a lesson that I have carried with me for all of these years, a lesson that will not be forgotten anytime soon. The lesson I learned was divided into three parts: that I should never cut hair barrettes out of my hair, that all choices have consequences, and sometimes siblings suck.
Trichology is the study of hair. Interestingly, this study dates back to mid-1800s. However, hair analysis in forensic science began in 1930. During which time, a forensic scientist by the name of Edmond Locard introduced the Locard Exchange Principal. This principal hinges on the fact that any time there is contact between two surfaces an exchange of material will take place. (Oien, 2009) In this paper, I will prove how Forensic Hair Analysis and Forensic Hair comparison and studies if properly performed and correctly interpreted hair analysis meets all the scientific method standards.
Aerosol hairspray does destroy the Ozone Layer. There are chemicals that are harmful to the ozone layer and are destroying the ozone layer. Plus, with all the people that use it on a day-to-day basis, it adds up a lot. I know that my mom uses it every day and she uses a lot, almost to where it fogs up her room. Here are reason why it destroys the ozone layer.
