The statement, “I am the light of the world” comes packed with deep meaning and coveys much truth whenever it is used . Jesus knew what this statement meant when He said it, but most people did not and still do not quite understand the weight of this reference. The following text will cover how this statement relates to God the Father as revealed in the Old Testament, how the statement reveals the deity of Christ, and finally the events surrounding the reason for the statement used.
Jesus’ use of the statement, “I am the light of the world” relates to God the Father as revealed in the Old Testament in a remarkable way. The best place to observe this is in the beginning in the book of Genesis,
‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.’
What Jesus was saying here is that He has been the light since the beginning. This is also further explained in the book of John when John mentions how if it were not for God creating the heavens and the earth and speaking light into existence, that there would be nothing. Even though this passage does not use ‘the “light of the world”
earth was without form and void. God said, "let there be light," and there was
In the literal sense, God made the heavens and the earth. Before God spoke, the earth did not exist, it was empty and formless. He said, "Let there be light," and there was light. This is the first day of the creation of the world.
In Genesis God created the earth in six days and declared rest for the seventh day. On day one, God created light to part it from darkness, calling the light “day” and the darkness “night”. On day two, he created the sky, allowing him to create land and sea on day three. God created the sun, moon, and the stars to give light to the earth and to govern and separate the day and the night" on the fourth diurnal (Fairchild, 2013). These elements would also serve to establish days, season, and years. On the fifth day God created all the organisms on the land, sea, and sky and made sure they would flourish.
Who exactly are the children of the light, and how does that translate to today? (And in a world of so much intolerance, should we even try to translate it to today?)

talking about His creation (Genesis 1). It also says: “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there
Moving on to the verse 5 of the Gospel of John, we see a mention of the dichotomy of light and darkness. This dichotomized concept of light and dark is resented in the following words, “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” (John 1:5) This idea seems to have been a reframing of the concept of light and darkness in the Genesis chapter of the Hebrew text, which is phrased in the following
Earth was empty and desolate. God then created light, and separated it from darkness. That was 1st day.
Jesus is known by many titles, perhaps most importantly the Savior of the world. Jesus Christ was sent to this earth to pay the price for all of humanities’ sins. According to Merrick, (2015). Scriptures primarily focus on His ministry as an adult however, there is an account of Jesus reading scriptures in the synagogue. Jesus was also known as the Messiah, or anointed one. This title gives further explanation to His divinity and supreme rule. Jesus was also known to be both man and God. This truth is significant because as (Merrick, 2015a) states “one beholds what all human life should look like.” (Section The Image of the Invisible God, para. 1). Bowen, (2014) gave a great explanation of Jesus when he said “This Jesus holds together the atoms in our bodies, keeps the laws of physics constant. Those individuals who believe the earth’s existence and beginning is a scientific occurrence can learn a bit more about the role Jesus played in the
He likes being alone. He thinks what no others would ever think. He no longer tried to fit in nor follow the rules. He continues to break the rules. He believes what he is doing is right and that there is nothing wrong with that. He is becoming independent. Even after he was beaten for being late, he wakes in the cell happy. He is happy that he did not speak of the tunnel of the light. Equality 7-2521 thinking’s bring him to painful results. He does not care as long as he shows the light and tells his brothers how the light is useful. He will just continue to suffer for what he believes in. When he shows the World Council of Scholars the light, they fear it. They do not understand it. So they want to destroy it. Equality 7-2521 yells at them and calls them fools. Equality 7-2521 is prophet. A prophet is a person who speaks for a God of a deity, or by divine inspiration (Dictionary) In this case, it is divine inspiration. He is here to show others what no others have seen before. He wants to tell his brothers what he has
"How the Almighty had made the earth a gleaming plain girdled with waters; in His splendor He set the sun and the moon to be earth's lamplight, lanterns for men and filled the broad lap of the world with branches and leaves; and quickened life in every other thing that moved."(Line 92)
This statement to “walk in the Light” would seem to suggest that it is not something that we can be as it would probably be written “be the light.” John recognizes that one cannot be the light so he is exhorting the readers to walk in the light which is the sphere in which God resides (Walvoord and Zuck 885). To do this action would be to no longer merely “say” but to do. Walking in the Light is what will restore and keep fellowship with God as Darkness has no place in Him.
The first thing he created was light, but of course there was still darkness, but the light and the dark were separated. Light was called “day”, and dark was called “night”. He made the sun to rule the daytime. For the night He made the moon and the stars.
“The gospel gives away more to as who Jesus was as person and telling of his teachings in the ministry. John takes us behind Jesus’s ministry, where we get a glimpse of what it means to believe in Jesus as flesh of the eternal and living God, as the source of light and life, and for a believer to be a ‘Son of God.” (Sparknotes
