Mr.Peter does not understand that those girls did not understand what was happening when they were little, they just know that they were scared. “Consent requires a person to really understand what they are agreeing to, free of fear because when someone is frightened all they want to do is agree with whatever they are afraid of just for their own safety.” (Angelides 147) Mr.Peter asked for forgiveness, but said he couldn’t resist, pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder, he still does not understand that this is wrong. After reading the letter Savvie and Carolina felt hurt that the only reason why Mr.Peter wanted forgiveness was because he could get parole. Not because he actually felt sorry, not because he felt guilty and wanted God to forgive him. They continued saying that they were young once and how they begged “Mr.Peter for everything- food, fresh air, a moment alone with hot water. We begged him for mercy, to give our bodies a break before they were broken completely. He ignored us. We learned to stop begging. He would too.” (Gay 160-161) Savvie and Carolina felt as if, Mr.Peter could have stopped during those six weeks but he didn’t. He is asking for forgiveness, but the sisters asked him for mercy and he didn’t listen. So after all these years, why should they forgive and hear him out, when he didn’t listen to them or
In the fourth chapter of Parker Palmer’s Let Your Life Speak entitled All the Way Down, Palmer is addressing and discussing clinical depression and the discoveries he made during this time. Disconnection and mystery are both explicitly covered to accurately explain the run and feeling of depression for the individuals that have never experienced the disorder. One of the main ideas that is addressed is that one of the only ways to get out of depression is to use knowledge of the heart and the choices that lead to wholeness are expressive of personal truth rather than calculated and intended to achieve a goal.
Many people think that the poem A Song, by Helen Maria Williams, is just a love letter when, in fact, it is more of an expression of her relationship with her inspiration of writing.
While earning her degree in creative writing, Reyna Grande learned that sometimes you have to write the story you want to read. As a Mexican immigrant she was searching for literature on immigrant experiences but could never find anything written about the children of immigrants, about people like her. The Distance Between Us is her memoir, a voice for the experiences of immigrant children whose parents made the journey before them. Distance is a constant theme throughout her story. It can be recognized in hers and her family’s physical, psychological, emotional and mental experiences.
The song I picked for this homework assignment is called Runaway Love by Ludacris and Mary J. Blige. The song is describing the hardships of three young girls and their struggle to survive. Finally, the girls are fed up with the lives they are forced to live and decide to pack up their things and run away. I think this song can relate to many aspects of sociology that we have learned in class. Some examples shown through the song are poverty, education, healthcare, marriage and family. All three girls’ different stories and struggles they face.

When you read a poem you can come from it with an overall feeling and figure out by context clues how the author’s feelings were of the subject as well. “It’s a Woman’s World” written by Eavan Boland goes through the struggles and restraints society hold to being a woman. The speaker had a complex with it being a “Women’s word” and you can see that through diction, imagery and symbolism.
In my opinion, the non-fiction essay, "Just Walk on By", authored by Brent Staples is one which caught my attention and I was able to connect to the real world around me. For instance, a similarity is the prejudice faced by Brent Staples to another victim from the essay, "The Skin I'm In", written by Desmond Cole. In this essay, the victim encounters a white woman on a late evening and she is described to have , "cast back a worried glance... within seconds she disappeared into a cross street." (Staples 1) The significance is that the woman felt insecure around the black man and felt the potential threat for rape or theft even though it was unnecessary.
Music helps everyone connect with other people. By playing a sad song, it can show that they are sad and need someone to talk to them. Or if someone plays a country song, it could mean they are happy and want to dance. That is how Lil Wayne wrote his music; through the pain and sadness, he felt in New Orleans. It was with the help of Lil Wayne’s music; David Ramsey survived his first year of teaching, connected with his students, and began to understand how connected the students were with Lil Waynes lyrics.

There are two famous and amazing writers. Their names are Doris Pilkington and Katherine Boo. The two authors have written very sad and great stories, but, there is only one story that may grab a reader's attention. That story would be “Behind The Beautiful Forevers’’, Katherine Boo. The reason why Katherine Boo’s story gets her point across is because she shows the difficult things Abdul had to face in his life. Abdul had to go threw garbage and find things he could sell to get money for his family. In the story “Rabbit proof- Fence”, Doris Pilkington tells the challenges his character faces. The challenges that Kundila had to face was the White Raiders coming in and taking their children. In the “Behind The Beautiful Forevers,” Katherine
Don't look at me is the first line of Christina Aguilera's song "Beautiful." This instant whisper from the voice of Aguilera creates an ashamed vibe for the song. It is spoken quietly and without any musical instrumentation. As the music softly and brilliantly builds up to the first verse listener's already have a misinterpretation of the lyrics. The audience presumes that the song will be about depression or shame and disgrace because one would associate not wanting people to look at you with shame. However, once they read more into the lyrics they notice that the meaning of the song is much deeper than shame and actually has an opposite message. When the audience hears the title of the song they could
With the awareness of substance abuse as an illness, attention has also been directed to the families and loved ones of those who suffer. Why do families and loved ones stay with someone who is so obviously ill? Why do they tolerate being taken advantage of? One of the first books to address this issue is Codependent No More. According to the author, the issue at hand is codependency, where the individual in the relationship with the addict suffers from an illness as well. This paper is an analysis of the book compared with similar research on the topic.
In my opinion, Kendrick Lamar, an award-winning rapper and songwriter, has one of the best abilities to describe his distressed and abused lifestyle in Compton, California. He is not your original cliché artist who does not speak about anything meaningful. Kendrick, also known as K. Dot, is one of the most well known and most respected rappers in this era. Not only does he speak about his gloomy past, but he also speaks about his fortunate future. His ability to give detailed representations of his struggles and his story telling allows me to, metaphorically, enter the mind of Kendrick Lamar.
